  • Great guitar on the inexpensive side? Let's find out! I enjoy Epiphone guitars but we are gonna try to find anything wrong with it.

    NOTICE: This is not the "Inspired by Gibson" Hummingbird model that is MUCH different than what is being reviewed in this video. There is a night and day difference.

    I have a 2012, as he said a little money in it will make a huge difference. I replaced the nut, saddle and bridge pins (reamed pin holes to standard size) all to tusq. I tried bone first, but tusq sounded better. This thing is built like a tank, bullet proof. Thanks for the demo! You don't find alot of the original cherry sunburst without electronics for sale.

    Thank you for the vid and check points. How is the bass of it in person? I love the hi end ring this has and how it plucks (tis twangy) but how is the bass and lower mids in person?

    I am now 72 yo & I began playing guitar more than 60 years ago. I reached apoint where I had to stop playing nearly 20 yrs, due to 2 arthritic conditions. Then a couple of years ago, while looking at guitars, just for the fisherman... , for the Halibut. I know, a real groaner, but at my age, we take what we can get. In 1969, I had the real thing, an oh my goodness, authentic, genuin Gibson Hummer, back then... , a tad over $350, about as much as a brand new Epiphone Hummingbird today. I've had many guitars Fenders, Martins, Gretsch..., even a Silvertone early on and of course, a Gibson Hummingbird. To try to get back into, I bought a brand new Epiphone FT-100. I was shocked! I got it for $139!! Over all the years & all the guitars I've had, for the money, it is the absolute best guitar I've ever had. I love the deep, rich tone it has is amazing. So, now , I know, I digress. My youngest son seeing the smile on my face from having another guitar in my hand, he bought a new Epiphone Hummingbird Pro. I played it for a while, did a bit of work on the neck & the action and I came to a conclusion. For what the Hummer cost... , I'd rather spend the $$ on a couple more FT-100s !! I'm convinced that 'inspired by Gibson" on the hummer means they tried to make it LOOK like a Gibson Hummer, but it sounds like a bummer. The resonance of the the FT is nearly 40% longer & the tone of the hummer, as you mentioned. The Hummer is not very good at all. It's sound is very tinny and, unless you play it thru an amp, the bass sound is practically non exsistant. If I had bought it with MY money, I would send it back or be in court. It is the most disappointing of any guitar that I've ever been. The FT-100 is a much better playing & sounding guitar & a better all around value. Also, the hummer was supposed to have top-mounted controls for the pickup with slide controls. This one has just volume & tone controls inside the sound hole with dials. Don't waste your $$$ on a Hummer, It' is very disappointing!!

    could you compare this to the new IBG Epiphone Hummingbird?

    ITS SOLID, not laminate. I did a neck adjustment to get it correct. Otherwise, beautiful playing and sounding guitar. And mine is loud compared to yours.

    This is an OLD ONE w/ the Large '64 & later "Strictly Epiphone" tuning head. A Cheapie ! The new "Inspired By Gibson" line is a WHOLE OTHER THING. Look for the "Gibsonesque" shorter much nicer looking tuning head. $849 @ Sweetwater.

      Great insight! Hate to see them muddy the water with so many versions and different levels of quality.

    Is this hummingbird the inspired by Gibson version?

    • @RamonaMusicCenter
      @RamonaMusicCenter  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Yes, it is certainly using all the Gibson designs just with quicker/cheaper parts.

      @@RamonaMusicCenter No the new "inspired by gibson line is more expensive at like 850$ and has 2 inlay dots beside the bridge pins vs this is the cheaper regular epiphone hummingbird with laminate.

      Oh I thought they were literally asking if it was inspired by Gibson, not the actual model lol Thanks for clarifying. Totally different color and feature set for those.

    You'd have to replace half the parts in few months of use. Good for beginners

      Which “half of the parts” would need replacing? Strings. Come on man this comment is ridiculous.

      @@fenderman7596 the nut on both and saddle and the neck is worn down and i haven't played it much. the guitar is heavy and the sound feels muted. i tested this guitar against other's which are equal in price. its a mile away from what a real hummingbird sounds like. this guitar was gifted to me so i did not pick it on my own accord
