    Great video again Sean! Thanks a lot! At 4:40, instead of having two major third intervals repeated, you could play the root note with your index finger on the 4th string and just play the regular D7 shape with the rest of your fingers (that way you add the major 5th interval as well). And it's still a closed voicing :)

    For learning this I feel like it’s important to know the notes on the guitar, scales, and chord construction because even though it’s easy to remember chord shapes without knowing what it means you would never know that the reason the root note of the E minor chord is G and not E is because it’s an inversion G over E minor or G/ E minor where it’s with an E minor but the G is the lowest note

    If I were in that island scenario, my chords won't be the only things getting rooted on the D...

  • @oddeology1259
    @oddeology1259 5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    the M/m 7 chords don't really have their roots on the D strong
    The root of these 2 shapes is located on the D string but 5 frets ahead of the chosen position it seems...
    Can you forcefully voice them with the root on the D string?
    I though about it and I guess I can copy the same note progression of these chords on your video with the root on the A string...
    This way a GM7 rooted on the D string would be: x x 5 7 7 7
    In the same way as a Gm7 also rooted on the same string would be: x x 5 7 6 6
    (yes the x x are the broken strings)
    In both examples the G note is in the 5th fret just like all the other chords and those work...right?
    Great video. Keep it up.

    In general, is it safe to say that you can use a diminished, full diminished, and half diminished interchangeably as the quality of your 7 chord? If I just really like the sound of a B half diminished instead of a B diminished resolving to C, is that kosher?

    Is there any chance of getting these types of videos for the G, B, and high E string? I need to learn more chords that have higher voicings since it will help me get away from barre chords so much and be able to play with a bass player more easily.

    • @danielzuend1859

      Davis Phillips with just the G, B, and E strings make the d major shape. move this up one fret it becomes an E flat major, another it becomes E major, and so on and so forth. they are triads. the d minor shape works the same way. so with just those same 3 top strings, the d minor shape moved up a fret is E flat minor, one more is E minor, and so on and so forth. all triads.

      @seandaniel23  7 ปีที่แล้ว

      Great question, honestly the cutaway doesn't really do it for me on acoustics. I generally don't go that high playing acoustic for the most part, and I like getting the extra volume/tone from a full body acoustic.

    I saw your video second after second.You always surprise me with new and good material. No one beats you when it comes to teaching!!
    When you say "your guitar washes ashore with you and one other beautiful woman" you mean the owner of the guitar is a man?? Or is it a woman?? Can i assume this video is just for bearded men?? Or for men wich like women?? What about the others who don't empathize with people of the opposite sex?? Have you already read the answer of GINA GARZA 3 DAYS AGO!! Take a look. I know you never would make a statement on this level trying to mean that. But, look, always apear somebody and grab what you wrote, throw it against the wind and it gets spread all over. GINA GARZA wrote " thanks for throwing the gays a bone". Thank you again for posting this video!
