Seeing this side by side. Getting rid of that orange look makes it feel like some of the original setting got lost in this update. Overall really happy with that update. Especially considering its free. Still love playing this game.
My god... How much the game improved with RT and new foliage system with improved/upscaled textures... The original looks ecstatic for 2015 title... But now 7 years later with the next gen upgrade... It trumples most of 2020-2022 open world games. I am playing it at RT ultra+ with 3090 and I just can't stop bloody staring at the game. I just don't want to use way teleports and don't want to run to the mission... but rather walk and just stare at the beauty of it all... The only really thing left is to polish some visual anomalities created by RT at some places (with the light leak probably 2 walls not properly joined etc....) and the heavy FPS toll that is unreasonable for what the game produces and is obvious there is severe engine CPU limitiation which needs to be worked on to have better perf overall.
I am playing on an RTX 3080 and do the same with RT Ultra+. I have spend 50 hours in the game and havent even gone past Velen. The only issue is the game needs to better use multiple cores in the CPU. Apart from that, its amazing
@@DeebanFR Aye... 30 hours in and man... I haven't used ONCE teleport... I'm just roaming with roach (using mod that kind of copied RDR2 horse controls) and soaking in all the beauty of the world... Really if they properly optimize DX12 version and improve the performance by 15-20% (or more) it would be amazing. Like I am running 50hz with vsync to experience somewhat smooth experience as with 60hz its just constant jerk fest as the game is floating around 50-60 fps. It might just be me, but the added contrast, "difference between bright and dark elements" is just too high on the next gen version, especially on a oled. The old version is much easier on my eyes.
It Improved in some areas. The color palette is def less yellowish but some of the grass is noticeably blurrier as if it has lost definition. The terrain, itself has improved and it's more detailed but in some cases, it seems the trees went from 4K to 2K and there is less variety. You could clearly see the detailed leaves on the trees before the Next-gen update and now they are all some sort of mass of different greens. The next-gen walking is atrocious, it's like The Witcher is losing his walking rhythm every 2 or 3 steps.

Well, except Toussant ofcourse.. And well, even all the other parts of the game use different colours to have a different kind of look. Not all are suppose to look as grim and dark as Velen, even outside Novigrad things lighten up significantly. Kaer Morhen has more of a cold white tone, and Skellige more of a cold blue tone. This is good use of colours actually, in the original, pretty brilliant actually.
The new version doesn't have HBAO+ which is why objects use shitty SSAO and it looks too flat without RT. I can see a major difference, I also have it set to ultra and it suns smooth, of course your going to have your exception, like major populated areas and lots of animations, but over all it was a great Next-Gen update, and I've only played like 4 hrs of it since it came out, So kudos to CDPR for a great job, I hope the CP 2077 DLC that's coming will be just as good, hers to hopping😁
i love the yellower tint in the original, hope they have included a toggle for that ambiance
I don't know why but classic version of witcher 3 i like much more
Me too actually. It was nice to do another playthrough on the remaster, but the original is just right.. They even mucked about with the combat system for the remaster, and I frankly don't like those changes at all.
Best game of all time
Am playing this game even till now and I will till the end of my days
I came here because of the next gen Fall out 4 lol
This definitly brings me a feeling of going to the countryside in my country. The forest especially is really similar.
Am i the only one to prefer the old water graphic design, compared to the new one ?
Ye cause the new one doesn’t have that ripple effect
The color was way off though. Ocean blue water in a central european-esque swamp?
@@idontknowidk6077it does. It's just covered in a new foam texture. At 2:13 you can see the ripples in the shallow parts real easy.
The next-gen version graphics are more realistic and new but I like the Original version more, it has more old-period and fantasy vibes.
I have a fully moded PC version and i dare say that it looks much better than the Next Gen version
I think even not modded old version looks better, than this witcher 3 reforged.
I doubt it, the grass looks much better in the next gen, not even beautifullgrass or meadowns mod with the tweaks in engine.ini come close to the new grass.
and I highlight the grass over the rest because it's what we will see the most in the whole adventure, lol.
@@metroplex29 on my taste old grass better, they should've give a choice between old graphic and new, with other changes which i like. But maybe it's too hard to do, i don't know.
@@nikoooo57 i thought i was the only one who prefered old the witcher than new the witcher.
@@nikoooo57 the old grass was absolutely horrible 😂 it was just 2 plane meshes with an alpha map applied on top. The new ones are far better. With each individual blade of grass being rendered.
bother look great. but i kidna prefer the old style. the new one is more realistic. but the old style was really warm stylized and fantastical.
I know that right looks "better", but for some reason I like more the left side 🤔
This made me appreciate how good the original game looks
7 ½ damn years apart
for the 6th times i played this game and still playing next gen too awsome
Is it weird that I like the original more than the Next Gen update?
Yes
@@-zeusalmighty-2812 Yeah I was drunk haha, after 140 hours I can certify that the next-gen is 100 times better hands down 😅
i still like the orange sunny tint in the original version
Damn, now I will have to go replay. It's been quite a few years.

The trees move with the wind in the original but in next-gen, they look static, they don't react to the wind...
One of the best next gen updates I’ve seen
Seeing this side by side. Getting rid of that orange look makes it feel like some of the original setting got lost in this update. Overall really happy with that update. Especially considering its free. Still love playing this game.
100 hours into the game and definitely was some experience
Original: 180 fps - - - - Next Gen: 56 fps
Why doesn't the trees move in the wind anymore...
Exactly, thats literaly my only complaint. Ruins immersion
if only i had a computer that can run this on Ultra+ with Ray Tracing :(
Don't worry, you don't miss anything from the other world, you will only see the game as if it had the gama more high, that is, worse
Imagine a game with the fidelity and detail of RDR2 and the setting of The Witcher 3... Now that's what I hope The Witcher 4 is going to be like!
And just slaying what needs slayin'. 30 hours and I haven't touched much of actual main quests... Just side quests/contracts and question marks...
Really if they properly optimize DX12 version and improve the performance by 15-20% (or more) it would be amazing.
Like I am running 50hz with vsync to experience somewhat smooth experience as with 60hz its just constant jerk fest as the game is floating around 50-60 fps.
Only other thing I wish I saw updated was the NPC animations... Would have been cool to see more modernized animation and movement... Also utilizing the facial expressions tech that they have implemented in CP77...
Overall i'm mad impressed...
@@sermerlin1 What CPU are you on? 50 fps is as high it goes right now without Intel 13th gen
@@DeebanFR i5 11400. Got smooth gameplay at 50fps about 90% of the time, where it is sitting above 50fps but in some villages in velen it goes to 47-49fps. While exploring it is 50fps locked flatline.
Novi grad will probably slaughter me at 30-35fps as well as oxenfurt.
Bro's mad he doesn't have next gen
Literally *all I could notice* is how awkward and robotic the walking looks in the newer version. It looked SO much more fluid before... no idea how they messed that up IoI
@@finnplotzki4774Nah IoI. Some improvements are really nice, while other changes are noticeable downgrades. The walking animation in next gen looks ESPECIALLY worse.
Is it truly different, or is it just that he's walking faster in the next-gen clip? I mean, if the speeds were matched, would it be different?
@@finnplotzki4774 I've never owned a console in my life. Never will. All my games are heavily modded. Just my Skyrim has over 1,200 modes and runs always over 60 FPS without even sweating. I always tough that consoles are (in general), for people who can't afford a decent pc.
Now it looks a little closer to that one trailer that looked incredible beyond belief. I think it was the reveal trailer
I'm also recording some gameplay on my channel on my Xbox Series X. The graphics are fantastic too. Very impressive upgrade.
The free update has a lot more work put into it than several PAID remasters out there.
Magnificent game, they did a remarkable work with the remaster tons of improvements ❤
Except performance, which sucks
@@mmd3585 game works great on series X smooth and beautiful
@@PapaTanduo same here on PC (rtx 4060 ryzen 5600) ultra 60+fps
its like they got rid of "Texas filter"
never realised Velen was so yellow
The new water effect is incredible!
game looks great regardless but i always thought the water was a weak point, now its fixed
The old version locks for me better! 😅
CD Project Red really did raise the bar with this game. It’s nearly 2024 and I’m still playing it.
No big differences. I like the colors of the non next gen (not look cold). Trees seems more dark and LOD is better at distance. Wind power have been reduced too.
Water has a white foam (additional material change). And i think that's all.
You're missing the added foliage, higher quality textures and mainly the new lighting/reflections and shadows. You can see at 1:44 (on the right side) that instead of it being a blob of shadows meshed together you can see the individual branches and twigs/leaves casting shadows and can make them out their shapes easily. Seems like a decent amount for a free update imo.
I think you need to get your eyes check friend.
Either you are blind or you are completely new to gaming
@@groogi9649 adding foliage is not a part of a next gen game. But you're right. New one is slightly better. Maybe i should play it on a big screen, cause on my phone it's not clear and i cannot enjoy texture.
@@asdfghjk2933 no. I can see better light/shadows. Maybe some texture are better.
But for me the original game was already good, so the new one has not a huge difference.
It's my point of view dude. Maybe i should play it on a large screen to enjoy it..
I cannot not play this game without ray tracing. It's just too damn beautiful.
But I cannot play the game with ray tracing because its so damn taxing
@@MrMooMoo89 L
15 fps 😎😎
thats why until i can afford or have to upgrade my 3080 to a 4080+, I won't be replaying it.
40 fps on rtx 4080 lol. I can't imagine what fps is on RTX 2060 with RT
It is crazy how good classic Witcher 3 still looks, and the next gen update is even better.
Why I feel that the Original version looks better?
Cap
The water looks 100 times better in the next gen version
Only more saturation of color in the original.
Говорите, что хотите, но старое освещение мне больше нравится
The world of witcher is not supposed to be beautiful. It's supposed to look grim and dark.
U never went to a place called crookback bog?
@@TheNissandd everything should be grim
@@TheNissandd everywhere anywhere
Well, except Toussant ofcourse.. And well, even all the other parts of the game use different colours to have a different kind of look. Not all are suppose to look as grim and dark as Velen, even outside Novigrad things lighten up significantly.
Kaer Morhen has more of a cold white tone, and Skellige more of a cold blue tone. This is good use of colours actually, in the original, pretty brilliant actually.
Is it just me or these paths through forest looks sooting and scary at the same time.
The new version doesn't have HBAO+ which is why objects use shitty SSAO and it looks too flat without RT.
They removed it on next-gen version of the game seemingly to make RT shadows look better in a side by side comparison - really disappointed CDPR would do this.
Like they should have at least left HBAO+ in DX11 mode where there's no RT anyway....
Great game and great video👍👍
1:43 look at the windmill
I dont know... Its just different for me. Watching in 1080p I cannot notice any difference in graphics, only in style and colors
are you blind ? just look at the foliage
damn it has way more varied foliage, more detail color/lighting, better soft shadows, better self shadow on character.
The update clearly add some nice effects and details !
Distant detail looks more complex, better atmospheric effects (especially far away haze), improved water reflections, more vegetation rendering up close. But the old version still looks great
I loved CD Project RED, this game was my favorite. I even bought Game of The Year Edition on PS Store Russia.
But you cheated me with a free upgrade to the Next-gen version. Should I re-buy the game in another region??? Now I hate not only CD Project RED, but also the Poles! (Although before that there was great respect for you!)
Я любил студию CD Project RED, эта игра была моей любимой. Я даже купил Game of The Year Edition на PS Store Russia.
Но вы меня кинули с бесплатным обновлением до Next-gen версии. Я что долэен заново покупать игру в другмо регионе??? Теперь я ненавижу не только CD Project RED , но и поляков! (Хотя до этого было большое уважение к Вам!)
original looks better: no blur and more saturated in color
so it finally looks like promised in trailers? It only took 8 years, nice
I am glad i enjoyed witcher 3 and completed it when i was young and single. Great memories with this masterpiece
Honestly both look awesome .
There's so much pop in with the next gen which completely ruins the immersion , the next gen looks really bad compared to the old. It's a shame new players won't get that same first impression we all got when it launched . Hopefully it's optional
at the cost of 80% performance, great deal
Played the game for several hundred hours at 720p lowest setting on a laptop to get the highest possible frame rates. I played mostly on my laptop's built-in 15 inch monitor. The graphics are nice, but these details are not what you remember when you think about the game. For me it's the locations, the music, the characters and of course the story that makes this game so memorable.
Yeah, graphics are pretty irrelevant, but good enough to support the game properly.
the color change to the lighting looks good same with the water, but the shadows look way to dark
Its crazy how much better the old gen version looks, new one looks weird.
God damn.... i need to go back and replay the Witcher 3. Thats crazy how much better it looks. And the old version still looked good lol. one of the best gaming experiences I have ever had.
