I was shocked that all of my GB/GBC Pokemon copies were all authentic when I opened them. Pokemon Red didn't work but after reflowing the solder it worked again.
I just learned this today and I’m glad I did some research. It’s crazy how tons of the ones I saw looks suspiciously cheap and with stock counts going into thousands. The one I bought was with the white E and amounts to 1,999php (40$).
The fake one usually isn't gonna hold save over a few weeks, not without the battery which is foreseen but not installed. Bit of a scam there, since it appears to work at first but that's just the retained charge in the efficient SRAM IC, it's not going to be retained long term.
Good vid thank you. whats the screw driver called you use to open the cartridge? I asssume it'll be available for cheap somewhere but idk what to look for
Are you talking about the embossed numbers in the bottom right corner? Cuz I just found one I was thinking about buying but it has those engraved numbers (not 11 though..stamped 00) in the bottom corner and he didn’t say this edition had a code stamped in like some games do…. Could it have been real with the code 00?
@ericapaul7989 The numbers are basically for authenticity and don't really mean much other than possibly the "batch" (00 doesn't necessarily mean it's from the initial release). The number does also tell the version, though. Two numbers means it's a v1.0, with a letter after that if it's a later version. 00 = v1.0, 00A = v1.1, for example. If the cartridge doesn't have any numbers strapped into it, it's a fake.
I found a pokemon yellow cartridge but it does not say "special pikachu edition" on it. I have reason to believe that it was bought in Japan if there wasn't another game released here in the USA without "special pikachu edition" written on it.
What are the differences between the copies and the originals? Do they play or look different? Are the copies more likely to last longer? I am looking to buy my brother a gift for his birthday, he grew up with these games and still loves them, so any advice would be helpful, thank you. And also interesting video, I will give it a thumbs up.
game play theyre all the same. reports that the fake one freezes or reset at times but that could happen for the original too. also when you trade w fake and original, some crazy stuff happens that may destroy both saved files.
@@pokeboy14a thank you, I think so too!! I had the red a blue versions as well, but seem to have lost those. Actually the red version was my favorite Gen 1 , so I’m sad about that... you have an awesome collection. Thanks for sharing your passion and knowledge in your videos
@@townsendheal8471do the ones you purchased in store have an embossed 00 in the bottom right corner? I just came across one for sale that had all the things he mentioned in the video completely right but he doesn’t mention any embossed numbers on this game like there is on some other games.
Bro these videos are 2 years old but they are still extremelly helpful. Thank you for making them with such detail.
5:49 - The sticker is likely because someone replaced the battery in that copy. It doesn't look like an original battery.
i did not even notice that. Good find!
I actually have a real copy of Pokemon Yellow. I remember buying it for only $5 back in the day.
That’s awesome! Those were the days of deals!
@@pokeboy14a Yeah. 😂 Now these games costs a lot of money. 😅
@@thazkid I know right! Great investment and hobby! Thank you for your support!
@@thazkid yeah it doubled from just about 5 years ago!

ebay or aliexpress,
Just bought a ridiculously good condition one for 40 CAD, was a little sus but turns out its real! Thanks!
I got one for $43 USD, I was really happy! (Gotta love auctions!) I did replace the sticker because it was WRECKED.
My cartridge has the embossed numbers in the front but it says 00, does that just means it was like the first batch or something?
not sure about the batch but it should be good.
Is it possible to buy a decent fake pokemon yellow and decent fake gameboy color?
Why do some have the clear E logo?
The E rating design just changed from clear E to black E. Thank you for your support!
I have the fake but kinda knew. Still plays good.
yup should still play.
Are you not going to mention the serial stamp on the sticker? (11 on your authentic ones)
i think i forgot to mention it here. i did for the others. thank you!

not so sure about it, sometimes people print convincing new replacement stickers.
I think the european version does not say pikachu edition and is just blank with only named “Pokemon”
@@oscaroscar5033 That's right, my good old German 'Gelbe Edition' didn't have 'Special Pikachu Edition' on the label.
Mine is the same level of yellow as my original gameboy

Ya they all do, even the fakes. Although trading seems to have some funny outcome when coming from the fake games.
