    Your perspective is really interesting regarding jumping with lower bb bikes, for me while on a higher bb bike my body position is much more upright and therefore obstacles next to me while I'm on the rear wheel seem much lower thus making them easier to jump on 😄 cool build once again!

  • @infectedbear95
    @infectedbear95 5 หลายเดือนก่อน +3

    Just a random simple thought. Heavy trials bike makes your riding look much better. Just looks smoother and we can see way less small corrections from the side. Yep, you think that your riding were not the best on the Arcade but it really looked smoother then everything. It's like you have high-precision instrument or hummer in your hand. And thats why pure trials riding looks so bad for the most riders from the different disciplines. Uber-light bicycles with uber-high bottom brackets are the most reasons why trials is where it is now. Moving with your bike and making tricks or moving your body by using your bike.
    I just tired of this tones of messages in my local bike chat about weight of the parts, haha.

    NIce one! I have a T-Rex too, with the regular brake mounts. I like It! Weighs still less, than the '10 UMF Hardy Steel 2 did before... :D
    I bought the Steel 2 to mod it for trials learning (after watching you here... :) ), and got the T-Rex when the Steel 2 reached its build limits, and wanted a trials specific frame.
    When I first built it up in early may this year, and did the first few rear wheel hops, I was amazed how well and easy it handles,
    compared to the Hardy Steel, I'd say too that it has a good geo!

    i got no darn idea about trial bikes. but that tiny, unusable seat adds just the right amount of comical absurdity, to me as a road bike casual, who only gets his ass of the saddle, to sideways hop up and down curbs, or blatantly ignore the existance of rough terrain, without slowing down. (not like underpowered brakes are gonna do much, going through slippery shit on slicks as wide a finger. at best you convert to what feels like ice skating. lol)

    In my experience as rider, mechanic and financier those brake mounts scream "HS 33 expensive, fixing awkward. PROTECT THE BRAKE!". Also drops the mass a little (look, it's not a huge amount but marginal gains or something).
    Wouldn't be shocked if a previous owner had the mounts moved for some similar purpose. It would also theoretically put the braking force in a location that frame could handle better which could allow a lighter brake booster or even no booster with the same or similar power. It would also help keep the old ball trap tucked out the way.

    • @Ali_Clarkson
      @Ali_Clarkson  5 หลายเดือนก่อน

      The brake is definitely stiffer in this position which is fortunate as there’s absolutely no way to fit a booster 😋

    • @andrewince8824
      @andrewince8824 5 หลายเดือนก่อน

      @@Ali_Clarkson that might be why they did it then. Odds are the intention was to run a HS style brake using a hose splitter to improve the clearance round the bracing while benefiting from the stiffness of the frame and weight savings from ditching the booster.

    Wait? I always thought the under Seat Stay Mounts was a feature on the earlier T-Rex Frames!?!
    My mate had a Blue/Black one with the exact same mount position. We always thought they were taking inspiration from BMX? Still to this day BMX Frames have the Brake Mounts on the CS S-Bend/Wishbone OR the underside of the Seat Stays!
    It's veeeeeeery unlikely haha, but I'll message him see if he has any pics of it. Almost certainly with all of us looking like dorky Edge Lords though 😄

      There’s a couple of the MK1 Rex’s on eBay and they both have the mounts on the top of the stays but I’m sure I have a memory of them being under too, maybe they did some like that at another date?

      @@Ali_Clarkson They must have! My mate didn't know it was coming that way either, one of the reasons I remember it haha. He was seriously excited about it, the Rex was a great bike to slowly upgrade bit by bit & he ordered his with a different set of Maggies (The Neon Yellow Ones) it was a nightmare getting that Brake working properly haha. We must have been 15/16 & absolutely hadn't honed our mechanic skills at that point 😄

    Wait ... Onza survived all the way until 2004? I thought they were gone by the late 90s. Or did a trials / BMX brand pick up the name? Though technically they were a bad design, or rather had bad bearings and needed regular replacement of the elastomers, I always loved the feel of their SPD alternative pedals. I wish someone would remake the Ti versions. Second only to Bebops in feel IMO.

    • @Ali_Clarkson
      @Ali_Clarkson  5 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      Yeah the brand was sold in the late 90s/early 2000s and completely changed (except for the name and logo). It’s a different beast to the Onza that did lightweight XC stuff
