Good afternoon. This video was sent to me. I was the captain of this flight. For those who are interested. After T/O, at a low altitude ( 400-500 ft) we flew through a very large flock of birds. Possibly kievits. Immediately thereafter we got vibration on our nmbr 2 engine and a smell of burning ( birds which went through the core) in the air of the air o system. At fl60, and lower power settings, the vibration ceased and all looked normal and stable. However, damaged was done and therefore return to ams was the safest option. Fuel dumping is not possible on this aircraft and also not necessary so we made an overweight landing. We used all the runway to keep the brakes as cool as possible and we asked the fire brigade to check for possible leakage of hydraulic or fuel . It all looked fine so we taxied under own power to our parking spot. After parking we checked the engines and saw the damage. I am impressed how they are engineered🙏🏻. The engines can handle a lot! Kind regards.
Wow this is impressive handling of the situation (speaking someone - who is terrified of flying, but has to do 10-15 flights every year). Feeling greatly reassured - that this Industry is built on good people (like yourself) handling these kinds of situations, making the safest option when conditions are calling for it.
Both engines ingested a Flock of birds during take off. Severe vibration in RH engine. Multiple fan blades bent on RH engine. No visible damage on LH engine, but a bird went through the core engine so boroscope inspection was needed to inspect internals for damage. Also several birds hit the flaps and ailerons. I met the aircraft on arrival as maintenance engineer to assess the damage.

There is no fuel dump on the KLM A330's. And with two damaged engines you don't want to delay landing. Besides that, an overweight landing on 18R is no real issue.
Fuel dumping is done to avoid an overweight landing and avoid a necessary landing gear inspection. Obviously, this plane will need a lot of inspections so that does not matter, and flying with a defective engine would be a lot of danger.

Better be safe than sorry and overreact a bit...
Not knowing how long your remaining engine can keep you in the air, spending more time dumping fuel is a good option. Yes, you may exceed your maximum landing weight and there may be tire burst, brake overheat, so what. Anything that can be dealt with on the ground is the least of your worry.

Good morning boy
The A330 from KLM can not dump fuel. So they make a overweight landing.
Why the faster than normal landing? Flaps were not an issue.
More weight = higher speed needed to maintain sufficient lift

When that safety max weight is exceeded, the faster approach is required to manage the descent rate. The faster approach helps keep the heavier than normal aircraft afloat safely while still descending.
