Dom, I have been a Napoleonic collector here in the US since the late 1970's, I became a Civil War reenactor as it was the only way I could experience the feel of a Napoleonic battle. The tactics and formations are basically the same. I have done both infantry and artillery, artillery being my preference, although today I have reached the age that I can no longer sleep on the ground and mule guns about by hand. I was fortunate to have participated in several very large reenactments, some with upwards of 25 to 30 thousand men in the field. I remember watching 12,000 Confederates form up for Pickett's Charge, all I could think of was the Old Guard on that fateful day in 1815.
Good update Dom. ACW has definitely got you. Nice tip re. unit sizes with Black Powder. I'm just starting to play it using my Anglo-Sikh Wars 20mm and had reduced measurements by a third but hadn't thought to do the same for units. I'll try that next time.
Very nicely painted ACW. Maybe try pva to glue the figures down or a very tiny drop of superglue then carve of the wood? Great vid, thank you! I hope that the Wedding goes well.
Hi Dom, lovely work on the ACW. I’m not a button counter, but I believe your gunner with the ram rod has his arms on the wrong way around, his thumbs seem to be on the outside of his hands! No doubt you have a few more batteries to build, thought you might like to know. Keep up the great vids.
Damn i hoped no one would notice but you are correct! I only spotted it late in the process and blow me the glue set hard so I couldn't change it! Annoyingly I did the same to a Union gun crew!
Looks great! One thing I’ve done to vary my 15mm Union infantry is highlight a few trousers a light pea soup color, since I had read that the light blue often faded to that greenish hue. A lot of the variation in Confederate uniforms has been attributed to some of them being homemade, so I imagine that would be exacerbated by wearing and fading differently, with different sources of fabrics and dyes.
I use double sided tape (the kind with the foam between the sticky sides) to hold my minis, It holds surpisingly well and can be re-used several times (oh, I always prime before I stick them to the tape, otherwise it's not re-usable). Don't know if it's available where you are. If not, "Sorry about that, Chief."
Great to strike while the iron is hot and enthusiasm is high for the ACW! I felt the same way when I started my most recent ancients project. Love painting basic figures and cranking out units!
I will be watching your ACW progress with great interest. I will be right behind you cranking out my own Perry US civil war troops. I have drawn a line in the sand with a limit on how many units that I will paint prior to switching over to 6mm ACW from Baccus! Keep it up Brother. Thanks foe the painting tutorial. You are awesome!
I superglue the figures to thin material, like very thin plasticard or card, then once painted I glue that onto the unit/figure base and cover with ground texture. Saves faff and no worse than moulded bases with metal/plastic figures
Great work Dom Acw is very addictive always have some figs laying around they are my go to when I want a break from other projects and you can never have to many
About the colour of pants choices, pants always wear out far faster than shirts and coats. And when on campaign you took what you could get, including the kit of dead men.
Good video Dom,i fully understand the trying not to get obsessed about the acw.I havent started my acw cavalry yet, cant decide wether to do them as blue bellies or southern patriots?.Trying to keep it at skirmish level but i thought the same thing for the ecw/war of the 3 kingdoms and i now have 2 armies plus parts of 2 more!.Forgot to say last week, just to 2nd what someone else said flags of wars have good acw flags with a lot of choice, was looking at them the other week while i was getting some montrose irish and covenanters flags.
@@BootsontheTable If your wallet wants to start worrying, the Hellion Publishing 3 volume set on Danish and Norwegian troops by David A. Wilson is very good.
Thanks Dom. Quick question. Not sure if you have other than the generals from Crusader miniatures, but was wondering if you thought Crusader are sufficiently same scale as Perry to be able to mix in units? Good luck for the wedding, remember not to drink too much before your speech!
The zouaves in the American civil war are a weird one , it stems from the fame and elite status reputation the French zouaves earned in the crimea war and various colonial wars they became something of a fashion trend across Europe and made its way over to the states before the civil war ,I forget the name of the chap who started the first zouave company of militia but they would tour the Northern States showing off their parade drills
Why are Poms interested in the ACW? Probably the same reason that Kiwis are interested in it. I love it as a period but then again I like the entire 19th C American experience. I have War of 1812 armies, ACW, Wild West, some Plains Wars - and am thinking of starting into Mex-American War next year some time.
The vast majority of Confederate units wore grey due to the fact that they originated from militia units. These units wore grey to distinguish themselves from the regulars who wore the dark blue jackets/light blue trousers. The regular "men" of the US Army all went over to the North. Whereas the officers went whichever side their home state went to. At the Battle of First Bull Run many of the Northern units still wore their grey militia uniforms, so it was difficult to tell who was who. After this each side adopted their traditional blue and grey.

I always wanted to join a reenactment group and regret never doing so. I've watched many and it seems tremendous fun
Great units Dom, particularly like those Texans and great job on all the flags...'get it done Jonny Reb!'
cheers mate

yeah the reduced size really worked along with 2/3 distances
Lovely stuff. The 6 and 12lbs are brass. The rifled guns were black iron. Really like mixed uniforms in units.
ah cool thanks - most of the pictures I've seen have dark barrels so i wasnt sure
Nice work, Dom. I can certainly see your enthusiasm for the acw at the moment
yeah it's got bad!
Very nicely painted ACW. Maybe try pva to glue the figures down or a very tiny drop of superglue then carve of the wood? Great vid, thank you! I hope that the Wedding goes well.
Thanks for the tips! Yeah the wedding went super well thanks
Always great to get excited about a project! Glad you are having fun! 🙂
Yes! Thank you!

ah right - i used double sided but it ripped the bases off figures! But I'll see if i can find the foam one
@@BootsontheTable look for carpet tape

ACW are looking great Dom. Yes, I do know what you are like, so getting obsessed with them is no surprise at all! 😁
:)
New addiction... Dom? Why am I not surprised 😉 Excellent work. Big ACW for CC6?
Yes 😁

Kick Ass!
Well done !
thanks
I cannot wait to get stuck into my ACW, great video Dom 👍
many thanks

absolutely agreed
welcome to the acw world
it's a huge sink hole!
Cracking work Dom!
thanks pal
I've sort of had similar, but with 100 Years War French
what gamer hasnt it happened too? lol
I use a hot glue gun to attach figures to painting sticks. Nice work on the ACW stuff.
I second this. I used to use super glue, but hot is a lot easier to peel off feet.
great tip thanks
perfect I'll have to try this

cheers yes I looked and you are right, very nice!
For the baseless prints try a good quality double-sided tape
i tried that but i dont know if it was too strong but I ended up ripping the bases off a couple trying to pull them off!
The Danes are my white whale of an army, the Perrys figures are lovely, but theres never enough time or money.
i always love those smaller nations....

You certainly seem to have a US fixation my friend!
@@BootsontheTable I certainly do.
I stick my figures on card separately
nice thanks
You could do the 1st or 2nd US Sharpshooters for the ACW if you want a colour change, little green bastards for the ACW period 🙂
Oh nice tip - i'll do that!
use a bit of bluetac on the sticks
good tip thanks
All those Napoleonics armies, and not a metion of the French?
did i not? Actually dont tell anyone but I do have French too.....
😅
