      I remember my first time going there (on purpose, just to see what it was like) and getting the PDA warning, then immediately speeding back where I came from.
      The second time I accidentally went into the zone, I didn't get a PDA warning, and I couldn't figure out why I was so uneasy until I stopped speeding ahead and saw nothing around , then realized there wasn't any music and knew I fucked up. I tried to turn around, but it was too late by then.

    I really want to know why they... look.... zombified. Out there in the void.
    The real wiki explains nothing of this if you didn't get jebaited into the fake wiki first.
    In Subnautica, the ghost leviathans also appeared in areas other than the void, so it sort of made sense that they were just a different species that had different habitable niches.
    But... The music coupled with these things... What are these things? Its horrifying and such a far cry from the void in the original Subnautica.
    The way their skin is peeling off... And how their eyes are yellow and cataracted.
    What if this is like, some kind of fungal zombie infection, like in ants, and the void is where they get driven off to by the plague?
    Edit: Its also worth mentioning Ghost Leviathans filter feed the abundance of photosynthetic microbes near the surface of the water, and that this is their main diet which is seemingly sustainable out there in the void. Their mouths are teethless yet powerful which is how they damage the player.
    Chelicerates on the other hand... are entirely carnivorous, and their bodies are clearly designed by natural selection for that. So that being said... How the hell do they live out there, and what, if any food intake exists out there with sufficent mass and population to sustain these... things?

    • @Diagoooo
      @Diagoooo 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      This is a really good theory, it really makes you think what’s really in the void apart from these demonic husks of dead flesh. Btw the fungal infection in ants you were talking about is called a cordysep which cause a spore expelling mushroom to grow out of there head’s originating from there brain, so what if the cordysep in there brain cannot penetrate the skull so it moves down the body in the process degrading the leviathans skin eventually reaching a point we’re it can grow the mushroom out of the leviathan and spreads the spores through the ocean (not effecting humans)

    • @martingonzalez3629
      @martingonzalez3629 2 ปีที่แล้ว +89

      1. The whole skin thing can just be explained away with their name. Chelicerates are actually a subphylum of arthropods which contain things like arachnids and horseshoe crabs. So it could just be that these things are overdue for a molt.
      2. How do they eat? Well cannibalism isn't uncommon for predatory animals. They would probably eat everything and anything they come in contact with.

    Update: I have added a cage to watch the chelicerates in the water at th-cam.com/video/i7yUtIKq1xY/w-d-xo.html
    Update 2: I used my cage to kill the void chelicerates (they don't respawn) at th-cam.com/video/ds_LGNdktwY/w-d-xo.html
    Hey folks, small update with answering some common questions about this base:
    1) The corridors along the dead zone (and multipurpose rooms outside the dead zone) all have as many reinforcements as possible to keep the hull integrity manageable. You can see this at the start when I enter the first multipurpose room and at the end of the video when you briefly see the non-glass corridors. These sections were at the edge of the dead zone where the chelicerates would despawn and so wasn't as interesting to record.
    2) I died once making this from miscalculating how much time I had in the water. When you save and quit and then reload inside your base in the abyss it'll reset the chelicerates giving you a brief window to enter the water and build stuff (most things won't require going into the water, fortunately). You can take three hits with a reinforced diving suit so you're fine for a bit with only one up.
    3) I scoured the zones for as much quartz as possible to make this (using a scanner room at times to find bunches I had missed in zones). I hadn't built a prawn suit so if I had opted to do so there were more deposits available.
    4) This was done in survival. The purpose of this video was to show off the chelicerates with a base so if you want to believe I did this in creative that's fine.
    5) This took several hours to make (a lot of it from backtracking for more quartz). I needed six hours to hit a time limit game over on my laptop for a death compilation so it was some effective multitasking.

    People are always bashing Below Zero for how "it's not as scary" and that the chelicerates are "just giant shrimp" and that "the ghost leviathans are scarier" but to be perfectly honest these guys scare me way harder than the ghost leviathans do. The ghost leviathans are just plain cool (though they definitely ARE a bit... _spooky_ ( ͡° ͜ʖ ͡°) ), while these guys seem more like they just straight-up have rabies. The void chelicerates in particular give me the impression that they have not a single thought running through their heads, and that that they operate purely on destructive impulse. Ghosts almost have a regal air about them.
    Edit: Also, the way their beaks clip through everything and are large enough to envelop you in darkness through the wall is my _least_ favorite thing.

      Ghosts aren’t even all that terrifying tbh, I used to bash the Chelicerates too but after playing a bit and having a few run-ins with them, I think they’re a bit scarier.
      I will agree that BZ is not nearly as scary as Subnautica though. Since Shadows are super deep underground and Ice Worms are on land, Chelis are the only active leviathan you’ll find in the ocean, whereas in Subnautica you could find both Ghosts and Reapers to attack you. And the only other hostile creature you ever need to worry about are the squid sharks. Plus, you feel a lot less alone in BZ, with ALAN with you for most of the game and all.
      Not to say that’s bad, because I prefer it. I wasn’t ever able to go passed the grassy plateaus in Subnautica, meanwhile I already have a ton of progress in BZ. Plus, having an actually substantial amount of land exploration is great, unlike to two fairly small islands we got previously

    A detail i find interesting is, much like waterbin real life, these giant monsters straight up disappear when they get a certain distance and gradually reapear when they get closer. The way the shadowy form move in the distance is both eery and cool.

    “We’re generally pretty safe in here, just do NOT go in the moonpool. It’s less of a vehicle bay and more of an accidental feeding pool.”

    Man i really really really want the next Subnautica Game to have an actual Storydriven Ecological Dead Zone where you actually have to go that Deep or far out to get something what you need to collect or doing mutiple tasks. I think the developers need to take the oppurtunity that the Dead Zone gives and make something that you fear. It's kinda loss potential.

    I never realised the void chelicerates were this big 💀 they look way smaller without seeing the base as reference

    When I look at the void I don’t see those creatures as the main threat. Just imagine the immense cold in a ocean of pitch black, where supposedly the winter time would be an infinite night like Earth’s Arctic’s.
