"Black Coffee" and "Pure Shores" are two of the greatest pop songs of all time. William Orbit and All Saints really brought out the best in one another

Hello from the Philippines. May I ask you what did you come to know as the meaning of this song? I happen to love this song too but never knew what it meant. Thanks!
@@florendojrdichoso6410 Hey sorry for the late response! For me the meaning of the song is, that even when you go through very tough times with your partner, when there is a serious love between you both, then each of you will try everything to keep fighting and figure it out. Somtimes you hate each other, still you want to be with each other. You often use your partner as a "punching bag" for your own personal emotions/problems, not realizing how much you might hurt him with that, because you think it should be natural for him to bear with it, but actually it isn't. It is a big privilege we get, it is a big sign of love. And after a fight, you sometimes just watch them doing daily things, like drinking "black coffee" and you realize again why you love them so much. Because they are still here with you drinking that coffee.
I never appreciated this song as a kid, im 34 now and heard it on the radio for the first time in years, and absolutely love it, stunning vocal harmonies
As someone who mostly listens to independent/edgier stuff, I must say this is one of the best pop songs ever to grace this world, it's so incredibly beautiful.
This song is pure gold and did not age a second. The girls are stunningly beautiful in this vid. Great footage. Perfect vocal harmonic performance, perfectly produced music and amazing conclusion with typical Orbit's reversed electronic drums combined with its famous echoes and beeps. William Orbit is a genius. Period. This is what professional electronic music mixing is about. This song will still be listened to in year 3062. Kudos and respect.

Are you saved? Where will you go when you die? Heaven or hell? The Gospel, which means the Good News is the news that God Almighty, the Creator came in the flesh as Jesus Christ to take away the sin of the world. The one God is a trinity of the Father, the Son and the Holy Spirit. The Son came and laid down his own life to save ours. His sacrifice on the cross paid the price for our redemption with his own blood. On the third day he rose from dead and offers the gift of salvation and forgiveness to those that repent and trust in him. Although God's creation was created perfect, having no death, sickness and disease, the creation became corrupted through Adam and Eve in them disobeying God. In this rebellion the creation became fallen through the curse of sin and mankind became separated from God. This world is fallen, but God offers reconciliation to him through his provision at the cross. Ultimately God will restore his creation to perfection when he returns but those that reject his offer of redemption will remain condemned by their sins and go to hell. Many have no idea anymore, sadly too many have never known real unconditional love and inner peace. more understand frustration, ego, materialism, anger and hate feels more real to them than being at one with life and love. the simple joy of being alive.
Amazing how you can hear the influence of 1990s electronic music, the likes of Portishead, and trip hop all in this. I dont think such a darkly lovely song could be a hit today.
@raipenafiel6770 Madonna does not compare to the talented All Saints. Their songs will continue to be beautiful, soulful classics with their gorgeous vocals. Madonna was mediocre pop !!!!
I come to this song every now and then, it got stuck with me ever since I first listened a long time ago, the amount of memories and bliss I feel from it it’s just immeasurable. Thank you All Saints for comforting my heart whenever I need it.
24 years have passed, and I still remember everything in great detail. All the emotional mood, deep feelings and empathy. Love, smells, colors, shades of melodies, and the atmosphere of the real event in 2000... This will never be forgotten... I like this song, which means a lot to me. This is my past, which I carefully keep in my heart.
Heard this on radio 2 yesterday, travelling back from Devon, wow, this still sounds awesome, what a time to have been alive in the 90s, and early naughties. Magic times.
Remember hearing this for the first time in Tesco buying dinner when I was living in London in 2000. Hearing it takes me the thousands of kilometres back there every time - I love the song and London!
@Aki Dano, Can you name me one "current" song that makes this still sound current? The song does not sound EVEN ONE LITTLE bit current. Pop nowadays doesn't sound even remotely similar.
I dearly miss 90's and early 2000's. Back then, all Saints - a brilliant one-of-a-kind group. I've always think that they have a classy combinations of voices and mtv that always pushing boundaries. They just believe in what they're doing with these dreamy, ethereal and thought provoking visuals in which perfectly fit their song like a glove; dare I say it.
Of course not, but we didn' t write about the quality of the song but about the production values/technical standards of the given era, which were pretty high. A lot of effort and money was invested into music and video production. Today the pop scene seems to be rather cheap in comparison.
This is one of the best vocal chorus ever made. I've been listening to it for over 2 decades and it ALWAYS give me goosebumps. It's a fabulous piece of harmony, Orbit hit gold with this.
Getting goosebumps listening to this. Didnt appreciate it when i was a kid. Now hearing it again for the first time in years its stunning. Beautiful harmonies
Their harmonies in this are pure bliss like being on a good e, heaven is a place on Earth.loved this time period being young and free then 1990 to 2000's the joy and optimism for a better more loving future we had.
I was visiting London and couldn't believe this beautiful blast from the past came on on one of the silly amusement park commercials. I was like "dayummmmmm what a flood of memories".... and that commercial instantly brought me here....what an incredible song!!!
All Saints have some of the best harmonising and singing on any girl band. Ever. Still true even now. Love this song, gives me goosebumps :) I sound like my mum but really they don't make music like they used to any more.
Yep, Center Parcs ad brought me here too. It's amazing what stays in your memory bank. I knew I'd heared it before and Google search for a song confirmed that. Beautiful song too...

William Orbit - You really need high-end loudspeakers to fully appreciate his production. The sub-bass glide @ 01:16 makes the walls of my house vibrate. (solid stone) Fucking genius.
This song was released more than 20 years ago. First time I heard it I was about 16. Now I'm 38 and 12 years married and it hits home like it never did before.
I was traveling around Australia in the fall(their spring) of 2000 and Quantas played this on the video screens when we were boarding. I was instantly hooked. Seriously good track, and the rest of the record is really good too. I'm getting total goosebumps listening to this for the first time in years.
Everytime I listen to this I get chills ... it gives me a magical atmosphere. It must be for William's touch. It happens since the first listening twenty years ago now ... I love All saints and Johan Renck wow damn. So great
I love the song, but the video really doesn't fit. It's like they had an idea for a video they were desperate to use and didn't care that it didn't match the song one bit.
Pull your headphone jack half out so you only get the base layer of audio, you'll be able to hear the lower half of the vocal harmonies on this song, they are absolutely stunning, gives the song a whole new feeling.
I love this song beyond words .. it is mesmerizing and so personal and different from other commercial love songs .. it speaks of what any person in love would secretly feel inside with out expressing to their significant others... LOVE LOVE LOVE IT
Besides the fact that this is a great song in itself, I also find its musical arrangement interesting for the content of very low frequency, including subsonic, sounds. You can best hear it, or better said, feel it if you have good woofers or subwoofers, which also makes the song one of my favorites for testing the quality of speakers. :)
@@UbercakeNL he has SUCH a distinctive sound. Whether he’s collaborating with All Saints, Beth Orton or Madonna, his “sound” carries through. He has a tentative ear for female vocals.
I had freshly found this song again after childhood when I was in my late pregnancy and I listened to it the first night my girl was born in the hospital, dancing around my room while she was sleeping, cause i didnt want to be anywhere else but there. this has new very special place in my heart
So underrated. The true definition of actual meaning of pop art... it highlights and takes you on a journey of contentment and beauty in the ordinary and imperfect.
I'm one of the biggest Oldschool Hip Hop & Gangsta Rap Fans on this planet and l'm the last one who enjoy boy or girlgroups then and now ,only Destinys Child back than ,but l love this song from all saints , it's a mix of different styles and it had so much emotions and many memories 👍
I had such a huge crush on Shaznay. Sigh - these girls vocals were immaculate. Hasn't been anyone like them since, and I still play the album. Anyone else?
Hell yes, Shaznay was like the definition of "female" to me back in the day, while at the same time Natalie being the defintion of sexyness to me personally.
This is more than 20 years old. It makes me feel older but also... I'm really grateful for having been able to experience music while it sill had character.
"Black Coffee" and "Pure Shores" are two of the greatest pop songs of all time. William Orbit and All Saints really brought out the best in one another

William Orbit helped so many artists & Pure Shores is indeed a masterpiece

These 2 songs - Black Coffee and Pure Shores are the best, never get tired of listening to them!

There's something special in 90's early 2000 songs... I don't know what and how I can explain it... It makes you feel better!
Nostalgia?
Good for you what ever that feeling is we all have that feeling usually through reminiscing
It was just before r&b, hip hop, dance and rock all became watered down into the same indistinguishable sounding pop. Music back then had character.

So true. Totally agree. Sounds so good even in 2020. Never gets old.
Wednesday 13th January 2021 @10:05 listening from north west England UK, Mi, Mu. Good Times back then :)
Me watching at Januari 2021. ♥️
i was struck as well
One of the best pop song ever. I can listen it on repeat 24/7 for years.
Life won’t ever be the same as the early 90’s/2000s
@@mikkayo Best decade
@@mikkayoabsolutely. I am glad someone is pointing that out
Same ❤
How is it possible that this song does not sounds out dated at all? Flawless production from William Orbit.
How could it be outdated? Played in mono? Or with a video in black and white? It was made in 2000, not in 1914.
nick fit not all 14 year old songs age this good
Of course not, but we didn' t write about the quality of the song but about the production values/technical standards of the given era, which were pretty high. A lot of effort and money was invested into music and video production. Today the pop scene seems to be rather cheap in comparison.
Lies again? Nescafe Coffee
@@ipiap today is all about tattoos and ….nothing
A song that tells us to face the problems instead of fearing them and running away. After 19 years I finally understood this song .
not really
@
Vinod Karikala, LOL, that's not the meaning of this song. After 19 years you still don't understand it.
19 years... And still better than the sh*t today
I tripped and fell on the floor.
The sound of it was better than the shit we have today.
DeeDee Inc ABSOLUTELY.👏👍
So true.....
100 %
Except Adele maybe, and Ellie Goulding.
This song never gets old, I just love everything about it. More people should listen to it.
This is a masterpiece of pop music
Only just discovered this. At 62, it was a really nice find. Decided that the view beneath my cosy rock is too '80s, and I'm due a holiday!
This is still a beautiful song even after all these years
Easily their best tune, and easily one of the top 10 tunes of the 2000's.
👍All saints were far better than the spice girls
I like War of Nerves
William orbits production is perfection. So glad he continued to work with all saints in subsequent albums.
This is one of the best vocal chorus ever made. I've been listening to it for over 2 decades and it ALWAYS give me goosebumps. It's a fabulous piece of harmony, Orbit hit gold with this.
💯
Getting goosebumps listening to this. Didnt appreciate it when i was a kid. Now hearing it again for the first time in years its stunning. Beautiful harmonies
One of my favorite songs... ❤️❤️❤️❤️😘😘😘😘😘😘
Their harmonies in this are pure bliss like being on a good e, heaven is a place on Earth.loved this time period being young and free then 1990 to 2000's the joy and optimism for a better more loving future we had.
First heard this as a little boy in 2002, hits even harder now than it did back then. Wonderful childhood memories. Thank you for the beautiful music.
As a guy that loves rock music, I have to say I love this song ...... never thought that my head would be turned, but what a tune ❤
Shaznay's voice is everything !
This takes me back to my Uni days 2007. Brilliant band, wish they'd come back out with some new tunes. UK
This couldn't further from the sort of music that I usually listen to, but this song and 'Pure shores' are ridiculously good tracks.
Just introduced my little daughters to this and they loved it. Love sharing the music from when their mom was young and cool 👻
That's wonderful !!!
"Loudness-war" got many poor band in the studios. 😢
Yes beats the pants off of the spice girls lol
Yep, Center Parcs ad brought me here too. It's amazing what stays in your memory bank. I knew I'd heared it before and Google search for a song confirmed that. Beautiful song too...
Lyrics🧚
[Verse 1: Shaznay]
Night swimming, beach walking
Always silent, never talking
Then you call my name
And I know inside I love you
Sail away, I miss you more
Until you see the shore
There I will be waiting
Anticipating
[Pre-Chorus: Shaznay with All]
Each moment is new
Freeze the moment
Each moment is cool
Freeze the moment
[Chorus: Natalie with All, (Melanie)]
I wouldn't wanna be
Anywhere else but here
I wouldn't wanna change
Anything at all (Anything oh I)
I wouldn't wanna take
Everything out on you
Though I know I do (Although I know I do)
Every time I fall
[Verse 2: Shaznay]
Day dreaming, chain smoking
Always laughing, always joking
I remain the same
Did I tell you that I love you?
Brush your teeth and pour a cup of
Black coffee out - I love to
Watch you do that every day
The little things that you do
[Pre-Chorus: Shaznay with All]
Each moment is new
Freeze the moment
Each moment is cool
Freeze the moment
[Chorus: Natalie with All, (Melanie)]
I wouldn't wanna be
Anywhere else but here
I wouldn't wanna change
Anything at all (Anything oh I)
I wouldn't wanna take
Everything out on you
Though I know I do (Although I know I do)
Every time I fall
[Pre-Chorus: All]
Hmmmmmm
Hmmmmmm
Each moment is cool
Freeze the moment

Everything out on you
Though I know I do (Although I know I do)
Every time I fall (Every time I fall, every time I fall)
I wouldn't wanna be
Anywhere else but here (Oh anywhere but here)
I wouldn't wanna change (I wouldn't wanna change)
Anything at all (Anything oh I)
I wouldn't wanna take
Everything out on you
Though I know I do (Although I know I do)
Everytime I fall

William Orbit - You really need high-end loudspeakers to fully appreciate his production.
The sub-bass glide @ 01:16 makes the walls of my house vibrate. (solid stone)
Fucking genius.
Even @ 2:30
one of my absolute favorite songs from any artist. stellar.
It's obvious william orbit produced
I forgot how brilliant this group were.. amazing harmonies
This song was released more than 20 years ago. First time I heard it I was about 16. Now I'm 38 and 12 years married and it hits home like it never did before.
I’m 40 and can confidently say this is one of the best songs I’ve ever heard during my entire career as human being ❤
i love this song, it's so soothing.
Even better with some shredding and a couple of blast beats in double bass drum \m/
I was traveling around Australia in the fall(their spring) of 2000 and Quantas played this on the video screens when we were boarding. I was instantly hooked. Seriously good track, and the rest of the record is really good too. I'm getting total goosebumps listening to this for the first time in years.
Whose listening to this in 2020 quarantine?
Me
Reminds of the first time I went to Whitby.. The CD was playing in the car....
Meee
Me!!!
I absolutely love this song... Reminds me of my school days
I came here from the radio, to listen again. Haunting and Timeless. A perfect melody.
Still to this day, one of the best songs i've ever heard.
Everytime I listen to this I get chills ... it gives me a magical atmosphere. It must be for William's touch. It happens since the first listening twenty years ago now ... I love All saints and Johan Renck wow damn. So great
The clip suggests this song is suitable for midnight driving around the city, and it does..
Most All Saints Stuff works in the car. Even "I know where it's at"
What about during a high speed killing spree?
I’m driving back from a great night out at 11pm listening to this
I love the song, but the video really doesn't fit. It's like they had an idea for a video they were desperate to use and didn't care that it didn't match the song one bit.
Exactly 👌👌👌
Pull your headphone jack half out so you only get the base layer of audio, you'll be able to hear the lower half of the vocal harmonies on this song, they are absolutely stunning, gives the song a whole new feeling.
OMG that is absolutely amazing!!!! :D
Brilliant discover my friend!!
Their Harmonies are always on point. I have noticed.
Wow! Wow! Wow!
Oh wow you're weren't kidding :o
william orbit is such a one of a kind collaborator. this same unique sound can be heard from Madonna's entire Ray of Light album.
He did bassomatic fascinating rhythm too. Another 90's anthem
exactly 💯
Heard it by chance on the radio today, and it still holds up as a superb song.
How I could forgot this treasure of song, I cannot stop listening now after so many years, so nostalgic ...
I love this song beyond words .. it is mesmerizing and so personal and different from other commercial love songs .. it speaks of what any person in love would secretly feel inside with out expressing to their significant others... LOVE LOVE LOVE IT
This song sounds better now than it did when it was released. I love it.
so true, jamming to this feeling young.
+Christian Scott Totally William Orbit's sound.
because when u compare this music with the ''music'' nowdays, u know what really good music is
Because you was spoiled years ago. Nowadays the majority of pop music is shit so you appreciate this more.
Feels more better 😉
i was in my mates car and this came on as we drove along the a406... it really went well with the streetlights whizzing by and that!!
William Orbit...
I never get tired listening to this song :)
There is something in the song that draws you into it. Plus the lyrics are pure poetry.
Maybe because it's called black coffee!!!
Coffee is consume every morning , course this song too
I'm one of the biggest Oldschool Hip Hop & Gangsta Rap Fans on this planet and l'm the last one who enjoy boy or girlgroups then and now ,only Destinys Child back than ,but l love this song from all saints , it's a mix of different styles and it had so much emotions and many memories 👍
@@Beastmode-hk3fj I thought Mel was the best looking...until I actually saw them in real life.
FMD, Natalie was in another league all of her own.
Shaznay Rocks...
Funny how they don't use her vocals on the advert.only the other 3 girls
The outro is incredible
I agree. It's superb.
Very orbit
@@g.g.2102 lol wtf that doesnt fit in this song at all...
Phenomenal outro
Magnificent outro
Nostalgic 90's, early 00's, love it, wish i could travel back in time
this song is so relaxing.. still love them!
+Trisha Heavenly yeahhh :-) they love u too
miroslava soukupova aw lol
One of the greatest singles in the history of popular music from the greatest girl and ever❤❤❤❤
This is more than 20 years old. It makes me feel older but also... I'm really grateful for having been able to experience music while it sill had character.
Good old MTV days when this music video was played over and over☺
Who else is revisiting this epic track after hearing it on the Centre Parcs add? Thank you, forgotten how totally beautiful it is ❤
Downloaded straightaway ❤ my song of 2024😃
Yep!Heard it while the adds were on and now I’m here.
Forgot how good it was !!!
