I totally agree with what everyone is saying! people from the UK and US can't embrace this sport and except that it is an amazing sport! I'm from the UK and I think it's a shame to see that one of the most popular sports in the world doesn't even get played within schools. So help promote handball!
PlayHandball Handball in schools is terrible. The kids play is like soccer and the teachers have no knowledge at all. I'm from Germany, so handball is not unpopular.
I train handball for 8 years now,and all of you who think its easy to learn this sport. Its easy to understand this sport, but very hard to learn and master it.
Actually handball is a very taxing sport for the body. Don't know about school level but at pro level injury is common. It's highly taxing for the joints of your body. Moreover defense in handball is not like basket ball, it's rather physical with a lot of contact. A friend of mine got his sternum moved to the side from an impact and almost passed out cause he couldn't breath anymore.
yes we have those to protect our balls..I play in Argentina and have broken a finger or two..shots on your face are also very common..and yes..there´s a saying you have to be a bit crazy to be a goalkeeper xD
hanball is way harder than people would think , im a j3 player with practice 5 times a week , 2 hours each . also im 12 . it akes geat focuse and training
i played handball for 3 years and its a great sport but if ur thin ur going to fail soooooo hard and when u play a tournament the ball is going to fuck with u its so fkin sticky
you can be a good handball player even though you're thin... then you a have a lot of advantages ;) and btw you won't dislike having the "sticky" thing on the ball if you actually will play handball actively.. it will be to your advantage
of course he can, but why should he? in Handball after a goal or a save from the keeper he have to pass the ball as quick and accurate as possible for the fastbreak. in "good" games most points are scored with fastbreaks so a accurate pass to a fastbreak is one of the most importand things of an World class offense
As a professional handball goalkeeper in norways highest league, it hurts my soul the way this guy is playing. Absolutely everything wrong. Same goes for most of the other players in this video, since they can't even throw with proper technique.
+Michael Schneck and which level did you play?:) i wouldn't say it's easy when you face some of the high level player, that stands 6ft 6 and weighs 220. and when their only objective is to stop you in defense:)
Yes, actually you are allowed by the rules to wear gloves from the age of 04-14, as far as I remember, though the rule might not be active anymore, it has been there. // Referee in Denmark
Haha, and this is even in Norway division 5 handball at best. Try a better team next time :) And, top players can throw the ball up to 130-135 km/h, guess im around 110 myself.
the difference is when people say "I can throw this and that speed" its measured while they are measuring their top throwing speed in a set environment, while your point with the DKB handball bundesliga where Nikolai Weber scored with a 122km/h shot was from a game, not the same at all. top players in DKB handball bundesliga can probably almost all throw the ball 122km/h in an environment where the shot speed is their priority. But only the really hard shooters will come close to this during a game. its all based off from where u take your stats from. I tried to measure my shot while i was in sport gymnasium (sport high school) and then my shot was around 110-120 km/h but this was when I only focused on shooting the ball as hard as I could towards the laser witch were placed behind the goal in the center. In a match, where you need accuracy I would not come close to this speed. So people saying "my speed is that and that" are referring to their speed in an closed environment, while people are discussing top players shooting speed during a game, these two dont make sense to even compare at all. anyway. gg
yeah it is actually popular almost every where the my dad played for his school in mexico when he was like 14 or 15 and that was like 30 years ago so it has always been popular
I wondered if there were any handball clubs in America, thought like there weren't any because of the overwhelming presence of other sports like football/hockey/basketball, ... Do you play in a league, or is it just recreational?
well thats right of course ... in fact the average speed of the "Bundesliga" is around 105 kph, 60 mph is ok...records are a different thing: the official record is 131 kph (81 mph) by Erhard Wunderlich (no one knows him...the record is from 1978 or so) but a real mistake is the weight of the ball! its not 2 pounds! It is exactly one pound so only half. (425 to 475 gramm)
In the last 6 olumpic games since 1996 the omly host nation on a strong handball team was buck in 2004 greece but its a european country and had a good generation of players finished 6th so in world cup next year. Unfortunately handball in greece is number 3 eport after football and basketball one of the few countries in europe is not number 2
I'm from Denmark and I have played handball for many years on elite level - I'm going to be an exehangstudent in USA this summer, it would be fun to see if there is handball where I'm going ;-)
my middle school plays handball every Friday majority of us are really good at it and it's a really fun game to play so I incougrage others to play as well
Actually it is.... Germans developed it taking ideas of both Football (the English one) and Basketball. Very popular in Germany, Northern Europe and Spain. Its even played in the Olimpics.
"A handball weighs about 2lbs..." Clearly there was very little, if any, research done by this baby Einstein. So an official Olympic hand ball weighs 0.43 kg, a little less than a pound. He is saying that a 2lb handball could be thrown 60mph by these goons, whereas the fastest handball thrown ever recorded in history was 80mph... With a ball that weighed less than a pound. I hope this man never takes physics in his life.
probably one of the hardest sports to learn. there are so many rules and o many ways of countering the oposing teams plays. also, the worlds best players shoot at an average about 200kmh. pick it up in 1 practise? i dont think so.
fastest shooters at a real international level (e.g. European Champions League) throw 120-125 km/h at best. If it's any faster, it's an exception, even for them.
I would suggest to watch women's handball for newcomers to the sport. It is slower and easier to follow tactics etc. I would suggest mens handball to see top level plays. The men are faster, better shots, more goals, more physical and play at a generally much higher level due to more professional leagues. There are much fewer women playing it professionally than men so it is easier to win the championships.
Hauke Holst you have to life here to understand in our country they primary teach us basketball football and voleyball so I wouldn't say it's the 2 in ALL europe
to be honest, a good european u-15 team would win against this guys easily
They looked kinda weird tbh
Agree I play u-15 in Denmark 2 division a. These guys look easy.

PlayHandball yeah I play it in school and I'm in US
Literally a more intense game of dodgeball....
PlayHandball futbol is the most popular sport
PlayHandball Handball in schools is terrible. The kids play is like soccer and the teachers have no knowledge at all. I'm from Germany, so handball is not unpopular.
My school is a handball School, we are in the news and everything, I love it so much lol😂
I train handball for 8 years now,and all of you who think its easy to learn this sport. Its easy to understand this sport, but very hard to learn and master it.
same with soccer it's easy to understand but hard to master it (like skills are incredibly hard when you start soccer)
except you dont get grabbed, kicked and take an elbow to the face for practicing football
I’ve been playing handball for a week now and it was really easy to master it especially because I’ve played basketball and soccer all my life before
Painmaxx1 its rough but all fowels are punished acordingly elbows 2 min suspencion or in some cases red card and grabed is a fowel
Yeah ive been playing for 9 years now and only about 2 years ago i started mastering stuff
imagine good and aggresive european defense vs this guys 😂
Every Sunday league club in Germany ist better than this 😂
Dude I play im Germany 13-15 YEAR OLD GIRLS FOREVER
Felix Fehrenbach *is*
We played this in gym, but kids were getting injured left and right so they removed it as an activity. It was so much fun!
I play it and its quite often that you get thumb, wrist or ankle injuries
How do you get that much injuries? Its just passing and throwing
Raymond Li yeah. They're babies
Actually handball is a very taxing sport for the body. Don't know about school level but at pro level injury is common. It's highly taxing for the joints of your body. Im impressed w/ WSJ's simple, fun, informative report. Well done, a good video!
60 miles an hour? u can throw at that speed when ur like 15
70 miles per hour would be more accurate
133 is the fastest by Mikkel Hansen vs Russia
133 :D Sure. Kilometers an hour maybe. MAYBE. But definitely not 133mp/h
yeah i forgot to put kmh ;)
my shot is 113 km/h and i'm a 15 years old handballer in the netherlands :P
americans playing handball....
I'm not really into sports, and this is the first time I've ever seen someone play handball, but I actually think it's kind of cool.
You should look at some real handball in this video they arent so good
search handball best defense, and enjoy : )
"top handball players can throw it 60mph".....
I play handball at a pretty high level and i throw a ball about 125 km/h. 60mph=96km/h....
Yeah, i don't think so
marko stanic What don't you think? :)
+Truth and Justice 125 km/h they never reach that speed in the EHF Champions League
+Truth and Justice well, then you must be a monster
marko stanic I kinda am
FYI....male professional throw at 75-80mph... female professionals at 65-70mph.
Hope the U.S. embraces this game 👍
To block shots in handball you need to use your feet as much as your arms, you can't just wave your arms reacting to what the shooter is doing
I wish this sport was popular in the states.
yes we have those to protect our balls..I play in Argentina and have broken a finger or two..shots on your face are also very common..and yes..there´s a saying you have to be a bit crazy to be a goalkeeper xD

I played team handball in middle school and highschool pe, pretty fun
As a professional handball goalkeeper in norways highest league, it hurts my soul the way this guy is playing. Absolutely everything wrong. Same goes for most of the other players in this video, since they can't even throw with proper technique.
I lived in eurpoe for a while and played handball, I have to say that goalkeeping was difficult, but besides that it was super easy.
+Michael Schneck and which level did you play?:) i wouldn't say it's easy when you face some of the high level player, that stands 6ft 6 and weighs 220. and when their only objective is to stop you in defense:)
I believe the wing position is the hardest to master, you need to jump very high, and also sometimes to spin the ball you throw
Yes, actually you are allowed by the rules to wear gloves from the age of 04-14, as far as I remember, though the rule might not be active anymore, it has been there.

Soccer teams play this once and a while at practice. atleast my HS did. Fun as hell
it looks like a soccer ball but is harder like a basketball

there are players that can do up to 180 easily
Hahahahahaha, 180 hectometer per hour isn't very hard
Ricardo Mendonça who can throw that fast ? In the DKB Handball Bundesliga is the highest this year Nikolai Weber with 122KMH
the difference is when people say "I can throw this and that speed" its measured while they are measuring their top throwing speed in a set environment, while your point with the DKB handball bundesliga where Nikolai Weber scored with a 122km/h shot was from a game, not the same at all. top players in DKB handball bundesliga can probably almost all throw the ball 122km/h in an environment where the shot speed is their priority.

Why are people making fun of handball when bowling is a sport?
Where is the resin? They aren’t playing it the right way! It’s only when you are playing as a child that there isn’t any resin on the ball 🧐
there should be a handball videogame its fun and its not fair that this isnt a game even in europe :(
There have been games, but they were always very bad. Also, i think simulating handball and its very complex set of moves is really hard to realize.
Edyr Arteaga There is Rooster Teeth just played one for a vs.
there is a handball videogame, but it's not that good because it's really hard to simulate handball
Edyr is that the lion from 2010? South Africa?
i would like to come in US to see in person how they play

u should come to the countries with the best teams, then you can see what it really is like... England isn't the best team in handball to be fair ;)
They warmed up by playing soccer. My soccer team warms up by playing handball lol

we play it in gym...... it's so fun
"How hard can it be?"

Dude any sport that requires a goalkeeper, the goalkeeper is the hardest position.
well at the very least in handball in some sense
You need to test handball in europe is harder there :)
It was obviously a typo.
i played hand ball in pe back in elementary school, we played pretty much the same just we couldn’t run when we caught the ball
my middle school plays handball every Friday majority of us are really good at it and it's a really fun game to play so I incougrage others to play as well
60 km an hour bro i shoot 100 km an hour
Yep, those American national teams hardly can be called professionals.
you will! I played against goalkeepers with gloves already.
That's awesome!

i think we should be looking at the people who gave him that information lol
try to play on the wing and then you will see how hard it is😂
you cant..you need your hands to throw, give passes to your teammates and that is impossible with gloves.
probably one of the hardest sports to learn. there are so many rules and o many ways of countering the oposing teams plays. also, the worlds best players shoot at an average about 200kmh. pick it up in 1 practise? i dont think so.
not 200 kmh.. about 150 ,but thats freaking hard to. i go about 100 myself and proud of it ^^
fastest shooters at a real international level (e.g. European Champions League) throw 120-125 km/h at best. If it's any faster, it's an exception, even for them.
Try learning wrestling
hardest part to learn is technique. if you didn't play as a kid and kept playing for years theres no chance you can pick it up as an adult
What did they think handball was?
lol. I don't know how that's getting around. The ball weighs just under a pound.
We call it team handball because just "handball" is a different sport to some Americans (something we call wall ball in my part of the country)
All over the world it's called handball, but in USA we need to specify the formal name: "team handball"
Does the ball really weigh 2 pounds? Or is it more like an actual basketball, soccer, American football, etc.
