Excellent. This fits with the insights of complexity science. At a philosophical level, we can go from understanding "freedom" as being about individuals' will to understanding freedom as the freedom to flourish in relationship with others.
And the end it says to learn more look at resources below (or something like that). What are some great places for the application of Barad's thought? BTW loved the Ebola example.
Could you upload more videos about feminist theory, situated knowledge by Donna Haraway please? As an undergraduate and non native speaker, it is so difficult to understand the theory that written by Haraway. If anyone have method to share with me, I would be so grateful. Thank you
Great video, thanks! Just one comment to consider for future videos: if you quote the author as you do in th video (Barad 2003) please add the full reference at the end somewhere, otherwise it is kind of meaningless...
Karen Barad 2003 "Posthumanist Performativity: Toward an Understanding of How Matter Comes to Matter" Signs, vol. 28, no. 3, pp.801-831 - really not hard to find with google, etc
subject-object dichotomy- the idea of human subjectivity and material objects existing independently or in opposition to one another. Intra-action suggests that these entities cannot exist in isolation, as they shape and inform one another. We shape the material world, the material world shapes us.
I once heard that the information that can be drawn from something being such is based on what would be the case if it was not such; what would be the case if there was, objectively, no such thing as subject-object dichotomy?
Intra action doesn't really apply immediate value except in application for ethics in the way the working of two things is far more important to analyze collectively than individually especially for societies, but scientifically it is just word to make the focus of phenomena on dynamics and patterns as main elements more the instead of the material objects or single subjects
@@nemonemo9407 No the difference is the breakdown of cause and effect, subject-object dichotomy. It comes from a position of quantum superposition, that an entity can exist in two states at once. So it is not a sequential thesis leading to antithesis, or problem-reaction like Dialectic, but of the simultaneity of various states and phenomena emerging.
i feel like all the cutting edge philosophy nowadays are just rehashed and sterilized 'recasting' of ancient ideas from eastern philosophy, buddhism and hinduism. no hate, i know someone's gotta do it for the western audience.
oh thanks, someone said it! convoluted and elitist terms to explain phenomena that mystics and shamans have known and experienced directly for millennia !
The definition of intra-action is a jumble. The word itself is a neologism and I personally can find no justification for it. It amounts to a distinction without a difference.
Really well made and informational video. Although sometimes I would get a little confused because interaction and intra-action sound REALLY similar
Wow, and here I just watched an one hour long speach by Karen Barad and got (almost) nothing out of it. This video was great.
+Jonatan Vaara Thanks Jonatan

I'm one whole year overdue but I'd LOVE a recap of Diffraction!

Thank you for your informative, clear, concise explanation Stacey Kerr, Erin Adams, & Beth Pittard.
Fantastic video. Really clear explanation!
You should update this to use Covid as the example as this is a really stirring theory under that lens

Me too. Really want to have a video about Haraway!
Hi! Brilliant! Does anyone know where I can contact the creators!
Intra-act, this is an amazing concept!

I have another question here. What is the sentence at 1:50? "...and yet this intra-action separates us into new co-constitutive....??"
+Elisa Cazorla sorry that the audio went a little wonky there - it says "co-constituitive subject positions"
+Stacey Kerr Thank you so much!
Can anyone help me? Anybody knows what she says at 0:22 - "the mingling of people and things and ....."? Thank you!
+Elisa Cazorla "and other 'stuff's' ability to act"
+Stacey Kerr "other entities'" would have likely been a better way of putting it :)
Great explanation. Love this! Thanks for posting!
great 3 minute explanation, thank you
Awsome explanation! Anybody knows what she says at 1:52? co-constitut .....? :D
Jad Moussan Thanks! Co-constitutive :)
Stacey Kerr thank you :)
Excellent. Thank you for posting!
Thanks so much for this. The Ebola example really brought it home.
Great channel, keep making videos. +Stacey Kerr
Hi, is the text from the video available in somewhere?

great video - explained very clearly
有趣的解读,真是学术最前沿呀
Thanks a lot for this explanation
Thank you for this
Sounds like Hegel's Dialectic
yeah, exactly. new term, but what does it add so what is new?

Grazie, ottima sintesi.

Indeed!!! I just wish folks from the east understood their own philosophy enough to assert it in this intellectual manner.

Thank you, Myddryn!
Stop being so amazing! Just kidding, keep it up

I'm too drunk to taste this chicken.
Sounds like woo.
Because that's exactly what it is.
Es gibt nichts zu tun = There is nothing to do.
Absolute rubbish. Complexity for the sake of complexity of very simple basic things.
this is bullshit but now, we have a nice word and we can write new articles
Word salad, devoid of any real meaning.
Pruus'n Hanna Keep coming back.
Hah, you're too generous. 🤣
Unbelievable the high like/dislike ratio..Humanity is f^cked 🤔
And to think that this is the type of nonsense that our tax dollars support. Dr. Frank J. Smith
Is it ironic that this is a example of elitism?
"Feminist physicist"?! I feel intellectually insulted by that arrangement of words. Does it get any dumber?
