    Really well made and informational video. Although sometimes I would get a little confused because interaction and intra-action sound REALLY similar

    Wow, and here I just watched an one hour long speach by Karen Barad and got (almost) nothing out of it. This video was great.

    And the end it says to learn more look at resources below (or something like that). What are some great places for the application of Barad's thought? BTW loved the Ebola example.

    Excellent. This fits with the insights of complexity science. At a philosophical level, we can go from understanding "freedom" as being about individuals' will to understanding freedom as the freedom to flourish in relationship with others.

    Great video, thanks! Just one comment to consider for future videos: if you quote the author as you do in th video (Barad 2003) please add the full reference at the end somewhere, otherwise it is kind of meaningless...

    what is said at 2:48 subject-object .... i what? would be very helpful to know

    • @pianobott
      @pianobott 6 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      subject-object dichotomy- the idea of human subjectivity and material objects existing independently or in opposition to one another. Intra-action suggests that these entities cannot exist in isolation, as they shape and inform one another. We shape the material world, the material world shapes us.

    • @marcusdaloia2974
      @marcusdaloia2974 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      I once heard that the information that can be drawn from something being such is based on what would be the case if it was not such; what would be the case if there was, objectively, no such thing as subject-object dichotomy?

  • @enas7547
    @enas7547 2 ปีที่แล้ว

    Intra action doesn't really apply immediate value except in application for ethics in the way the working of two things is far more important to analyze collectively than individually especially for societies, but scientifically it is just word to make the focus of phenomena on dynamics and patterns as main elements more the instead of the material objects or single subjects

    Sounds like Hegel's Dialectic

    • @nemonemo9407
      @nemonemo9407 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      yeah, exactly. new term, but what does it add so what is new?

    • @vivekmenon795
      @vivekmenon795 4 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      @@nemonemo9407 No the difference is the breakdown of cause and effect, subject-object dichotomy. It comes from a position of quantum superposition, that an entity can exist in two states at once. So it is not a sequential thesis leading to antithesis, or problem-reaction like Dialectic, but of the simultaneity of various states and phenomena emerging.

    i feel like all the cutting edge philosophy nowadays are just rehashed and sterilized 'recasting' of ancient ideas from eastern philosophy, buddhism and hinduism. no hate, i know someone's gotta do it for the western audience.

    • @vivekmenon795
      @vivekmenon795 4 ปีที่แล้ว

    The definition of intra-action is a jumble. The word itself is a neologism and I personally can find no justification for it. It amounts to a distinction without a difference.
