For anyone who had ever injured their shoulder we all know how incredibly painful it is as gravity is working against us and makes it feel as if your arm is being literally ripped from your body. Hope he is okay.
For real...tore my left rotator cuff racing mx and it's worse than cutting your toenails too short, I'll admit.
@Thunder Chicken lol pick something more painful to compare it to
@Keyton Lol...ok it's better than breaking your pelvis but worse than losing a tooth. Still gotta rep the too short toenail gang.
@Keyton ngl cutting your nails too short are quite a nightmare
I’ve strained muscles tons of times and it definitely looks like a delt strain to me. The immediate reaction is all too familiar to that “sting” you get when you pull something
How much time it takes to heal, sir?
@Cringe Pasta you might feel slight discomfort for a few days but most times its fine after a few hours
@Cringe Pasta it actually depends per person. So it's a bit hard to tell a time frame ☺
@Cringe Pasta depends on the severity. Sometimes you’ll be fine right after or the next day. If it’s more severe a couple weeks at most should be enough unless you tore a muscle
Agreed. Especially that particular area of the shoulder. I had a muscle in that exact area that was "touchy" for like 8+ yrs. 99% of the time it was fine, but every once in a blue moon I'd extend my arm in just the right angle and that sucker would flair up like I'd just stabbed it with a hot poker and then I'd not be able to lift my arm for like 12-36 hrs. Turned out the main thing I was doing to aggravate it was some behind-the-back arm "stretches" that were causing a repetitive stress injury to the sheath of that muscle. I was actually doing more of those stretches over the years, because I thought it'd "help" the problem, but really it was making it worse. Once I gave up on that and followed a rest & non-repetitive regimen, it cleared up in a few months.
The arm extended with the down force. I literally felt his pain. I messed up my shoulder years ago and it's never been the same. Completely.
Glad to hear I hope he’s okay and you’re definitely spot on about the possibility of some lingering or underlying shoulder issues.
Doc is too quick with the uploads. Barry Allen has some competition for the fastest man alive.
That's what she said. Jk
Barry is literally always late regardless, no comparison, doc is faster
I've had that injury happen to me in that exact way. Definitely strained something in my shoulder. Soft tissue injuries are the worst😫
I’ve had 5 dislocations in my career had surgery on it. No worse feeling I’ve ever felt than my arm being ripped out of the socket. Hope curry is ok 🙏🏻
I got injured in the exact same way and it took me over 5 years to slowly get back to 100%. It really messed up some of my shoulder ligaments. I really hope it doesn't take Curry that long to recover
It won't. He has infinite expert health advisors around him to make sure he recovers as quick as possible.
5 years is crazy, L body composition
@Hero Miles recovery is one thing but getting back to his prime will take years.
@Big John Cena ?????????
Great analysis and suspicion of a shoulder subluxation.
This was confirmed not too long ago.
Really enjoy your videos.
I suffered a proximal humerus fracture back in 2009. All the for the bicep and rotator cuff got torn and required extensive surgery to fix. 3 years of rehabilitation and 6 good years of being able to use the arm, now the problems crop up again. Hope Seth has a good outcome.
Thanks Brian! I really appreciate your work. You are always adding to my knowledge base!
I just wish you practiced in SF!
Was wondering how long it was going to take you to jump on this. You're amazing Doc!
I’m going with a posterior inferior labrum tear. The inferior shift is what caused the muscle definition pointed out in the video. It’s possible to be anterior inferior labrum tear since that is the weakest direction for the shoulder. But you don’t get shoulder pain from the injury a year prior that was basically a lateral extension when there is an anterior labrum tear.
Hey Doc, what’s the average heal time for a subluxation of a shoulder?
Helps me understand the shoulder injury I have more. Mine hurts me every day and reaching up at that angle is something I can't do without days of extra pain that can go on for weeks if not longer. Some people can't afford to pay for surgery and even if you can the pain and 100% recovery can't be accomplished. It's why I have left mine alone, I know I won't live forever, and I just choose to live through it.
The reason I love this channel is that I did exactly what Steph did and injured my shoulder. I played through it that day, gradually lost range of motion since then. Gaining it back here recently but it's nice to get Brian's explanations, because fuck sitting in somebody's waiting room...
Yeah definitely seems like he has some shoulder instability. I dislocated my shoulder multiple times. And any kind of stress/trauma to it makes it susceptible for dislocation. Had to quit playing basketball due to this. Any certain exercises you would recommend to aid in shoulder stability?
Have you seen a PT? They’ll be able to help you find exercises that will strengthen the specific deficiencies of your shoulder.
@NickzAndMikz Physical Therapist or Personal Trainer?
@NickzAndMikz I've saw a PT after the first injury. Idk. It was kinda cookie cutter. They had me to some basic things and once I was regaining my strength they signed off. They get me back past the first injury stage with aiding with my range of motion. But not to the point where I'd like myself strength and stability to be at. And still have pain around my shoulder and neck area of affected side.
@Joachim look into posterior labral tears and SLAP tears. I did the same thing except diving for a volleyball. Felt like a hot knife stabbed me in the back of the shoulder. 4 years later of working my ass off in the gym i finally got fed up with the pain and got and MRI. Type 2 SLAP tear (bicep tend totally detached and labrum torn from 9-3). Surgery was required to repair it. Im 3 weeks post op. Already feels better. Find the surgeon that operates on the shoulders of the professional baseball team in your area, if PT exercises haven’t helped. But avoid shoulder surgery at all costs, until you do everything else that you can to avoid it. You only want to have surgery if it’s absolutely necessary
@Trace J Physical Therapist. In general, personal trainers aren't qualified or know how to help treat injuries like a DPT does.
This is exactly how I dislocated my shoulder - can't see myself reaching out like this again
Thanks for the info. I have issues with shoulders from repetitive stress and car being struck from behind more than once. Stretching arm and putting stress on it has given me rotator cuff issues. Wah! Painful.
I think it ended up being a tear but I’ve been in that same position which caused bursitis to flare up. It was almost blindingly painful when it happened.
If Steph hit the ball casually and didn't lock his arm tightly, he wouldn't have injured. He is now much stronger than few years ago, so he was confident he could stop the attack and smash the ball off. Unfortunately the other guy was jumping up with momentum of the whole body, and that was too much for Steph's shoulder.
I literally saw this clip 1 minute ago. I then said out loud "Sutterer", scrolled down 7 random videos and there you are with the explanation video... The 🐐 is always on time
Oh man your wording made it so easy to picture that scenario in my head lol
Literally the same here, only I only whispered Sutterer instead of saying it aloud.
Hope Steph is alright.
As a Bay Area sports fan, the amount of injuries we are getting is sad
I was wondering how bad this might be and then remember the GOAT doctor that keeps us informed. Thanks!
thank you for the video Doc 🙏🏻 Doc isn't this the same as the Dwyane Wade shoulder dislocation injury back in 2007? i hope Steph's ok 🙏🏻
hope nothing worse will happen on that shoulder. Get well soon steph
The force of the opponent's upward leap is when it happened. Strain or sprain most likely, but possibly torn muscles.
I was thinking subscap strain as Stephs arm also seems to be going into ER thus the subscap contracting eccentricity. However due to the long lever arm + pacers player added force to the lever, it’s just too much for the subscap to control
I think Steph pulled a muscle . Just look how ripped his shoulders are now. The man is in tremendous physical condition. Probably did some shoulder exercises and strained something in there with that awkward rip down at the ball.
Fantastic work doctor. Thank you
Doc if ur reading this, Warriors are almost completely over. This doc is a legend. Curry is the goat he scored 38 pts on 3 quarters. Thx for explaining. It just hurts seeing my fav starplayers injured Curry and Wiggins. I guess the trophy will have to wait im so sad i was shocked 😢. The warriors are never the same without two starplayers.
Wish this was how anatomy was thought in school!!! Thanks Doc
Came here as soon as i heard about this injury. Thanks for the explanation doc!
This guy is a pro at what he does ! Very smart! Immediately subscribed✊🏻👍🏻
Love the vid doc! Any chance you could break down the details of Cade’s shin surgery??
Hey doc, I think the previous injury happens before the bump... at 2:13.5 of this video, at the baseline, the players arms tangle right as they start moving. That's where Steph has his left arm out and in the same motion as tonight. It's quick and jerky, but the same motion. Steph doesn't realize his arm hurts until a few seconds later.
nah it was clearly the bump
What exercises can I do to prevent further posterior shoulder dislocations?
Rotator cuff exercises and direct deltoid work like shoulder press, lateral flies, rear delt flies. Pretty much any normal delt exercise will help strengthen and reduce future pain. It’s more important to avoid any exercises that strain your delts like upright rows, behind the neck press those are not good
Hey Brian, do you think you could do an analysis on the injury that Zach Whitecloud suffered a few nights ago in the Golden Knights vs Bruins game?
Last year around September I dislocated my shoulder with the same exact play. I came as help defense and extended my right arm to swipe down at the ball as the offense player went up with 2 hands for a layup. My downward force with the upward force. Caused my shoulder to dislocate. It didn’t help that my arm was OVER extended to get at the ball. I immediately heard a snap crackle pop and I immediately knew it was dislocated. I went to the ER, waited 2-3 hours before it was popped back in. It was so severely dislocated that they had to put me to sleep for about 10 mins for them to place it back. Sleeping for a month was extremely difficult.
Love your explanation. Easier to understand 💯 💯
How are you so quick with getting these videos out? It’s insane how quickly you get these out after a sports injury!
When you don’t have to wear pants on camera it saves some time
@Brian Sutterer MD that’s one of the best answers I’ve seen, I hope his shoulder injury isn’t to bad, I know how they can be, I tore 25% of my right labrum and didn’t get it looked at for an entire year, I was starting to tear my rotator cuff I found out when I got surgery 2 weeks after my MRI, I’m still dealing with some issues 3-4 years later. I can’t do certain things anymore and I have to wear a brace while working now
The problem is even if he recovers, he won’t be able to work out properly due to having a bad shoulder subsequently!! Hence, his body will have a step back a bit. Steph needs every maximized strength of his mechanic muscles and body to compete in NBA where most of players are bigger and stronger than him.
I didn't see the game, but saw videos on Insta about Curry. I hope that he's okay and that it's nothing serious
same thing happened to me 6 years ago ..
i don't have money to rehab so i grow the weak shoulder until now ..
Curry have money so I think it'll be like couple of weeks to months ..
I still can play but just cautious putting to much pressure on my shoulder or else i might dislocate if it happens again ..
I watched a basketball game where a player swatted the ball so hard from his opponent's two hands, that his shoulder suddenly pop. Apparently he dislocated his shoulder.
Watching this two days post op from a revision labrum surgery. It makes me cringe seeing a shoulder injury lol. Thanks for the info doc!
Hey I mean... thank god it was his left shoulder...
Legend will be alright. Long live a legend.
Do you have a rough estimate as to how long curry may be out if it’s a subluxation?
Doc, Steph had a shoulder bump injury (under jersey bandaged not very noticeable, maybe, doing one of the playoff finals with Cleveland. I can't remember which one I know you mentioned that you wonder could it be he had something going on with it. I don't remember which shoulder but I keep thinking it was the left but I could be wrong. Maybe check it out.
labral injury for Curry and he is out for 2 weeks they will re-evaluate curry at the end of 2 weeks. Dr. Sutterer was right it was left shoulder subluxation
Fingers crossed it's not too bad. 🤞 I thought he just hurt his back for obvious reasons
I also thought he hurt his back from carrying the bum team without Wiggins he alone has to carry all the weight
Out for a few weeks
Been waiting for you..and you never disappoint.
Good analysis doctor, however, you left out the force that caused the injury. If you look, Curry's should joint is being asked to stop the upward movement, not of just the ball, but the full weight + mass momentum of the player's motion which would estimate to calculate is a few thousand pounds in the physics of the situation. Curry could never lift that much weight in the gym, yet he is, in a reverse manner attempting to stop and thousand force with his lone arm, and the joint could not sustain that much physical power. I don't think Curry lifts weight for strength, so no way the associated muscles and ligaments survive trying to reverse lift that much force.
As we see now, it is an unusual situation, one would think happens every day, but with bigger, more weight-trained bodies. An extended examination of Curry's shoulder should take place. My understanding is that he is taking an MRI to diagnose the problem, they should also check his blood and nutrients, he may be deficient in that area. Good video. I was interested in Curry's condition. I could not have found a better analysis. Thank you.
Man i used to throw 85-90 mph balls and i tried it out of no where last year and i think my shoulder exploded. no swelling but i tore something. Sometimes i'll move my shoulder wrong or whatever it it'll ache soooooooo bad and lose all strength. Like muscle failure. my god lmfao. one throw and it felt like my arm or ligament came off or something. Something happened. Still functional though. I still do things normally. I just don't have strength when at random angles. Idk. Lol i still; dont know what it is but it has to be something. I still do fine though. I still work out with light weights and live a normal life. It does suck when i lift my shoulders up and sometimes if i hit that perfect angle it just COMPETELY gives out. Like i'm strong but then you hit that angle and BOOM there is nothing there. Lol
Bay Area glad to hear your assessment 😊 on the injury
Separated my shoulder extending my arm to cover a puck as my arm slammed down on the ice reminds me a lot of that
The shoulder has to be one. Most fragile joint areas.
I have so many futures on GS to win the West so this video is relieving I was so pissed when I saw on twitter people saying Curry tore his shoulder
My guess is posterior labrum tear. I had one myself and subluxed over 50 times.
Literally was waiting for you to review it and learn from it!
How much time you think he’s gonna miss? Please give a take.
Pretty sure this happened to me the other day while shoveling 🤣
I have a feeling Doc secretly have an office in ESPN or Fox Sports so he can quickly access these videos and post them once an injury happens.
he’ll be fine
I wince every time I see stuff like this now. Currently on workers comp for a full tear in my labrum and full surface tears in my supraspinatus and infraspinatus. 😢
I wouldn't be surprised if it was related to more time with weight lifting in the gym over the past couple years
D Wade also injured the same way. Way back 2007
I was saving up to pay extra to go to a warriors game next week for my first nba game since I was 5, this is a bummer.
Tickets should be cheaper now.
@Fly Maiyeah to watch them lose by 30 without steph
i have tickets to see the warriors play the sixers tomorrow. ive been waiting all year to see the ONE time steph comes to town. now this game is gonna suck
Hes probably got a bad shoulder... Like the doc said, it didnt pop out so its probably just been streetched out beforr and not as strong as it could be. A lot of basketball players have bad shoulders.
i was supposed to see him for the first time on the 18th against the raptors 😢😢😢
“An MRI revealed that Stephen Curry suffered a left shoulder subluxation during Wednesday's loss to the Pacers.”
- Yahoo Sports
Dude, you’re good.
Doc could u or have u done vid on Draymond Green injury? If not why & just maybe I just missed it in my search. Thx for great breakdown & work.
Thx so much Doc S. Ur awesome💯👏👏🏾👏🏼👏👏🏾👏🏼👏🏼👏👏👏🏾
I have had a bad cuff since I was like 12 .. it’s sucks it can be great for months but any reaching anything like that it doesent slip than it will slip out later when u make a quick movement it sucks gotta look after yourself
When he grabbed his shoulder and ran off to the sideline bent over not moving his arm it reminded me of Kevin Love. Soon as I saw it I was like "oh 💩" . Not a warriors fan but I love 🏀 & great talent. Sucks
Hopefully nothing serious and don't cause Curry miss any games. With the way warriors playing rn they can't have Curry missing any games
So the question is doc, how much time will he miss if any
He's not in pain from his injury, he's grimacing from the pain of all the money he lost in FTX.
Oh know not Steph Curry, prayers 🙏 I hope he's arm hills soon period ⭐
Lebrijano fan till I die and I can’t wait to support his kids but I hope pirince Steph isn’t hurt
tried putting the team on his shoulders to carry them to victory resulting in injury
Did that. Didn't get it treated. Have had chronic shoulder instability for the past 17 years
Dang. This blows. He'll miss about 4 games. Another winless road trip 🥴
Always interesting info. Thanks.
Just like that. His MVP candidacy is over. He hasn't been playing this well since the Unanimous MVP season which is 6 years ago.
30PPG on 50%fg / 40%3pt / 90%FT efficiency.
Wow the fastest doctor in the world🙏🙌
The fact he doesn't have a job with ESPN is shocking to me.
ESPN is trash now anyways, aside from legler
Wow thanks my dude you should be my doctor
The Bucks were fouling the crap out of him, it was only a matter of time for that battery to catch up to him!
Torn Labrum. Luckily it’s his non shooting arm and he’s not a pitcher or quarterback.
I thought he accidentally popped his shoulder or extended it
I worked at a paper company and I was splicing a roll to another fresh roll. As soon as I reached out, grabbed, and ripped the paper I instantly let go. I was holding my left shoulder and I couldn't bend over or twist my body without massive pain in my shoulder. I was then put on light duty after 3 days off(5 with weekend) which I thought was funny because holding boards, using a screw gun for pallets was bs, and the pain in my shoulder came back just not as fierce. So I told my supervisor and they told me to just setup carts but then my back gave out and I couldn't bend over or twist again. Anything I did the pain came back in my mid back or left shoulder. Finally they did something but the therapy was not helping much as they avoided my back in the report. They had me do more testing and computer work on cores for work which was good but then it felt like the whole building was against me. I learned a lot about the management there and many coworkers that probably need to lose there job. I ended up quitting a year later.
I knew this was coming, I was gonna tag you on twitter but I know you’re 7 steps ahead
Curry’s problem is that he’s a boy among men out there. This kind of thing can happen when your scrawny and weak, but it’s not all bad, being small and weak gets him more free throws.
If he gets free throws.. refs are rarely calling fouls on him.. He gets ave 5-6 freethrows which is crazy low for someone triple teamed and main star of a team/league
Tell that too your Celtics he beat Bob
how long do you think he will be out for??
An tore labrum if that is what he has is an 4-6 week recovery without surgery
@Jalen Mendoza 🙀 that means we out of play offs
We barely were a 500 team with curry hard carrying now I guess another 2020 season repeat
@Black Mamba hopefully it is just a sprain but it could be worse
@Black Mambareports just came out he is expected to miss a few weeks
I think he might me out for a minute we need u curry
Shoulder injuries be damned.
That’s going to bother him forever
