For anyone who had ever injured their shoulder we all know how incredibly painful it is as gravity is working against us and makes it feel as if your arm is being literally ripped from your body. Hope he is okay.

I’ve strained muscles tons of times and it definitely looks like a delt strain to me. The immediate reaction is all too familiar to that “sting” you get when you pull something

@Cringe Pasta depends on the severity. Sometimes you’ll be fine right after or the next day. If it’s more severe a couple weeks at most should be enough unless you tore a muscle

    • Jake Stine
      Jake Stine 5 หลายเดือนก่อน

Agreed. Especially that particular area of the shoulder. I had a muscle in that exact area that was "touchy" for like 8+ yrs. 99% of the time it was fine, but every once in a blue moon I'd extend my arm in just the right angle and that sucker would flair up like I'd just stabbed it with a hot poker and then I'd not be able to lift my arm for like 12-36 hrs. Turned out the main thing I was doing to aggravate it was some behind-the-back arm "stretches" that were causing a repetitive stress injury to the sheath of that muscle. I was actually doing more of those stretches over the years, because I thought it'd "help" the problem, but really it was making it worse. Once I gave up on that and followed a rest & non-repetitive regimen, it cleared up in a few months.

I’m going with a posterior inferior labrum tear. The inferior shift is what caused the muscle definition pointed out in the video. It’s possible to be anterior inferior labrum tear since that is the weakest direction for the shoulder. But you don’t get shoulder pain from the injury a year prior that was basically a lateral extension when there is an anterior labrum tear.

Hey Doc, what’s the average heal time for a subluxation of a shoulder?

  • Tommy Chew

Helps me understand the shoulder injury I have more. Mine hurts me every day and reaching up at that angle is something I can't do without days of extra pain that can go on for weeks if not longer. Some people can't afford to pay for surgery and even if you can the pain and 100% recovery can't be accomplished. It's why I have left mine alone, I know I won't live forever, and I just choose to live through it.

Yeah definitely seems like he has some shoulder instability. I dislocated my shoulder multiple times. And any kind of stress/trauma to it makes it susceptible for dislocation. Had to quit playing basketball due to this. Any certain exercises you would recommend to aid in shoulder stability?

      bigbabo 5 หลายเดือนก่อน

@NickzAndMikz I've saw a PT after the first injury. Idk. It was kinda cookie cutter. They had me to some basic things and once I was regaining my strength they signed off. They get me back past the first injury stage with aiding with my range of motion. But not to the point where I'd like myself strength and stability to be at. And still have pain around my shoulder and neck area of affected side.

    • Ray
      Ray 5 หลายเดือนก่อน

@Joachim look into posterior labral tears and SLAP tears. I did the same thing except diving for a volleyball. Felt like a hot knife stabbed me in the back of the shoulder. 4 years later of working my ass off in the gym i finally got fed up with the pain and got and MRI. Type 2 SLAP tear (bicep tend totally detached and labrum torn from 9-3). Surgery was required to repair it. Im 3 weeks post op. Already feels better. Find the surgeon that operates on the shoulders of the professional baseball team in your area, if PT exercises haven’t helped. But avoid shoulder surgery at all costs, until you do everything else that you can to avoid it. You only want to have surgery if it’s absolutely necessary

    • NickzAndMikz

If Steph hit the ball casually and didn't lock his arm tightly, he wouldn't have injured. He is now much stronger than few years ago, so he was confident he could stop the attack and smash the ball off. Unfortunately the other guy was jumping up with momentum of the whole body, and that was too much for Steph's shoulder.

  • Mauricio Calvo

I was thinking subscap strain as Stephs arm also seems to be going into ER thus the subscap contracting eccentricity. However due to the long lever arm + pacers player added force to the lever, it’s just too much for the subscap to control

Hey doc, I think the previous injury happens before the bump... at 2:13.5 of this video, at the baseline, the players arms tangle right as they start moving. That's where Steph has his left arm out and in the same motion as tonight. It's quick and jerky, but the same motion. Steph doesn't realize his arm hurts until a few seconds later.

What exercises can I do to prevent further posterior shoulder dislocations?

    • Smoke
      Smoke 5 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

Rotator cuff exercises and direct deltoid work like shoulder press, lateral flies, rear delt flies. Pretty much any normal delt exercise will help strengthen and reduce future pain. It’s more important to avoid any exercises that strain your delts like upright rows, behind the neck press those are not good

Last year around September I dislocated my shoulder with the same exact play. I came as help defense and extended my right arm to swipe down at the ball as the offense player went up with 2 hands for a layup. My downward force with the upward force. Caused my shoulder to dislocate. It didn’t help that my arm was OVER extended to get at the ball. I immediately heard a snap crackle pop and I immediately knew it was dislocated. I went to the ER, waited 2-3 hours before it was popped back in. It was so severely dislocated that they had to put me to sleep for about 10 mins for them to place it back. Sleeping for a month was extremely difficult.

@Brian Sutterer MD that’s one of the best answers I’ve seen, I hope his shoulder injury isn’t to bad, I know how they can be, I tore 25% of my right labrum and didn’t get it looked at for an entire year, I was starting to tear my rotator cuff I found out when I got surgery 2 weeks after my MRI, I’m still dealing with some issues 3-4 years later. Good analysis doctor, however, you left out the force that caused the injury. If you look, Curry's should joint is being asked to stop the upward movement, not of just the ball, but the full weight + mass momentum of the player's motion which would estimate to calculate is a few thousand pounds in the physics of the situation. Curry could never lift that much weight in the gym, yet he is, in a reverse manner attempting to stop and thousand force with his lone arm, and the joint could not sustain that much physical power. I don't think Curry lifts weight for strength, so no way the associated muscles and ligaments survive trying to reverse lift that much force.
As we see now, it is an unusual situation, one would think happens every day, but with bigger, more weight-trained bodies. An extended examination of Curry's shoulder should take place. My understanding is that he is taking an MRI to diagnose the problem, they should also check his blood and nutrients, he may be deficient in that area. Good video. I was interested in Curry's condition. I could not have found a better analysis. Thank you.

Man i used to throw 85-90 mph balls and i tried it out of no where last year and i think my shoulder exploded. no swelling but i tore something. Sometimes i'll move my shoulder wrong or whatever it it'll ache soooooooo bad and lose all strength. Like muscle failure. my god lmfao. one throw and it felt like my arm or ligament came off or something. Something happened. Still functional though. I still do things normally. I just don't have strength when at random angles. Idk. Lol i still; dont know what it is but it has to be something. I still do fine though. I still work out with light weights and live a normal life. It does suck when i lift my shoulders up and sometimes if i hit that perfect angle it just COMPETELY gives out. Like i'm strong but then you hit that angle and BOOM there is nothing there. Lol

Just like that. His MVP candidacy is over. He hasn't been playing this well since the Unanimous MVP season which is 6 years ago.

The Bucks were fouling the crap out of him, it was only a matter of time for that battery to catch up to him!

Torn Labrum. Luckily it’s his non shooting arm and he’s not a pitcher or quarterback.

I worked at a paper company and I was splicing a roll to another fresh roll. As soon as I reached out, grabbed, and ripped the paper I instantly let go. I was holding my left shoulder and I couldn't bend over or twist my body without massive pain in my shoulder. I was then put on light duty after 3 days off(5 with weekend) which I thought was funny because holding boards, using a screw gun for pallets was bs, and the pain in my shoulder came back just not as fierce. So I told my supervisor and they told me to just setup carts but then my back gave out and I couldn't bend over or twist again. Anything I did the pain came back in my mid back or left shoulder. Finally they did something but the therapy was not helping much as they avoided my back in the report. They had me do more testing and computer work on cores for work which was good but then it felt like the whole building was against me. I learned a lot about the management there and many coworkers that probably need to lose there job. I ended up quitting a year later.

Curry’s problem is that he’s a boy among men out there. This kind of thing can happen when your scrawny and weak, but it’s not all bad, being small and weak gets him more free throws.

If he gets free throws.. refs are rarely calling fouls on him.. He gets ave 5-6 freethrows which is crazy low for someone triple teamed and main star of a team/league
