But congrats on the self-taught language. I did Japanese in school years ago, but I've spent the last 2 years doing a few languages self taught. This morning I was writing the date on something and realized I put it in one of those languages.

Great advice in learning a new language. In other words, you have to immerse yourself in the culture. Don't feel bad about some children being afraid of you. They have never seen a black man. There's another channel that I watch where this situation is in reverse. Here is the title to one of his videos: 'African Kid Sees White Guy, Thinks He's A Ghost.' Have a look.

Been in a Desperate situation can get you to learn any language.... It is also usually easier when you dont have any other language to speak.... For example when you are in a foreign country and u opt to stay with colleagues that speak the same language as youself , you wont learn the foreign language quick enough ,stay or mingle with people that speak the foreign language you want to learn ,spend more time with the language you want to learn ,just the mare fact of you being around those people will create a favourable and quick learning atmosphere..... Of course you wont be understanding everything at first but eventually you will start to understand......

if you heard it from some children, then means they rarely meet black people or foreign people, especially for the children from very small city or village. even for yellow or white people, if they don't look good (no offense :)), they might also call M..or some other bad words. sometimes, don't keep in your mind, they are just kids. sometimes they even like M.. Actually Chinese parents would never teach their children to call others like M... no matter who they are.

Such bull crap! You can’t be fluent in any language by not studying it. You have to study the rules, grammars, vocabulary etc… you can talk to the natives all you want , but know body is going to actually sit down and explain thoroughly to you how the language is structured . And that requires a a lot of studying. Whether is with Rosetta Stone or Duolingo, you need guidance.

Do little babies and children learn their language by "studying"? No. They learn by interaction and associating words with objects/context. Only later in their school years do they learn advanced vocabulary and grammer. Until then, it is not impossible to carry a simple conversation with a 4 year year old. So even as adults, though we don't learn as easily as children, the principle still applies.

Who teaches children how to speak a language? A child learns language by immersion into the culture. Adults can do the same thing. Some artists such as painters have been regressing into a child-like state to "see" nature.
Another 'You Tuber'(Mark Meets Africa) has learned Swahili in the same way when he moved from the USA to Tanzania.
He surrounded himself in the culture and achieved the same result as mike in China.
That's how young children pickup a language when they move to a new country. But some ethnic groups like Europeans and Indians are stand-off-ish and never learn a foreign language. I know people from India who have lived in London for fifty to sixty years and can't speak English. They live in a bubble with people like themselves.
