    I consider Mr. Zukerman one of our huge violinists, maybe the greatest nowadays. Here he puts a tremendous own approach into Mozart, it's quite romantic.

    The solo is near perfection in it's phrasing and nuance; the posters who have considered Pinchas Zukerman's performance here as "weak and nervous" have, perhaps, heard too many over-engineered , overmiked recordings?

    • @jaggerjacks8795
      @jaggerjacks8795 10 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      I agree, it's just the volume they must be focusing on... the sound he is producing is so free, and the control he has over the instrument is astounding compared to others..... in the same situation, other players' piano wouldn't reach as far as his does. I think they are use to more extroverted performances. His tone has so much beauty it baffles me that people cannot hear! >_

    His violin is a Guarneri del Gesu, and actually they are just almost exactly the same size, overall, as a Stradivari, but they have a flatter table and slightly less arching in the top, thus appearing to be , perhaps smaller. Also, Zukerman is about 6'3" and a big guy.

    • @ViolinistWilliam
      @ViolinistWilliam 8 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I studied with Zukerman in Ottawa, he's not any taller than 5'9 tops. He's not small though. I have to disagree about his Guarneri having a flatter table, his also has a high belly. He was using a better one in the 80's actually. The one he's currently using is quite nice, and indeed has a big sound

    What is about camera men?? Please, stop trying to be 'artists'. It's like they just discovered what the 'focus' lens does. You have a job, do your job and stop interfering with and distracting from the performance. Just give me a good view as if I had a good seat and turn your camera on, then go have a couple of beers until the lights come back up.

    It's funny, there's are countless videos of Zukerman on TH-cam where he says little else except instructing students to move elbow forward on down bow after middle of bow. I don't see him doing it himself once! But what he does works fine though. It just seems very odd to me that he is so obsessed with something he doesn't practice himself.

    • @FeliciaRojasDMA
      @FeliciaRojasDMA 9 ปีที่แล้ว

      It could be one of those "do as I say, not as I do" type of things. For example, I know that my 4th finger should always be curved when I play, but I didn't learn to do it when I was little, and now it's hard to think about it and make it happen every time because I'm focusing on trying to create art. Old habits like that are very hard to change. I often stress aspects of technique or practice strategy with my students that I wasn't taught or didn't understand completely when I was young because I know it will save them trouble in the long-run if they learn it now.

    • @TheNeilsolaris
      @TheNeilsolaris 9 ปีที่แล้ว

      Felicia Rojas You could be right. By the way, Kyung Wha Chung seems to play with quite a flat 4th dinner finger, so you're in good company! I suppose most people find ways of making things work, which is individual to them.

      Matthew Hume Clapping between movements was commonly done in the time of Mozart. I don't understand why it's not allowed nowadays. If you go to the opera, people clap enthusiastically after a great aria! I suggest we go back to the practice of clapping between movements In jazz concerts it is also common to clap after a great solo in the middle of a piece.

    Pinchas Zukerman is an insensitive musician who humiliates young musicians with Asian heritage by making culturally insensitive comments in front of a live audience.
