Yeah, it was sad to sad to see Phil pass away. I was a huge Emmanuel Brother's fan since the early 80's. He was a heavy smoker though. Tommy doesn't smoke. Look on the bright side and think positive. Andrés Segovia and Les Paul both lived until the age of 94. And they were still playing guitar in their 90s. It's not inconceivable that Tommy could follow in their footsteps.
This is what is called "MAKING MUSIC"!! not a stack of electronics, all only his own making. One of the finest in the world of music history. From South Africa.
Only a micro-percentage of guitar players have the technical skills to play at this level. An even smaller number are able create these kinds of intricate and interesting arrangements. And, as far as I can tell, there's only one guy who can do all that and perform it live with such a dynamic stage presence - and that's Tommy Emmanuel.
he lectures on this he says this comes from his ability to emulate the bass line and percussives while playing melody and lead lines because he learned to do it when he was young and admits he didn't know what a bass player or a bass was so he thought the guitarist was doing it all.
I had a best friend for 10 years and he was my dance partner to Blue Moon he was not only my best friend but a father to my last child nothing more than the best friend anybody could ever have. But he decided he wanted to buy a Harley Davidson to keep up with his best friend guys but he hadn't driven a motorcycle in over 30 years anyway he bought a Harley-Davidson and within 12 weeks he ran a red light and hit the side of a truck at 55 miles an hour and died. He took my life with him when he died and I don't dance anymore. This was one of our favorite songs to dance with. He was my country western dance partner. The best friend I ever had in my life that I knew would never give up on me. When we got in a small argument he would always say to me darling I love you and we will always be the best of friends God bless Dale Slaughter in heaven. If you want to friend me please look up Diana walls with my face
I'm playing this song and his version of Somewhere Over the Rainbow at my college's talent show. I've been watching these videos to motivate myself 'cause Tommy's been doing this for years! It never gets old with him. He's still the G.O.A.T!
I don't know how anyone could give this a thumbs down! He's one of the best that has ever lived. If you can't hear it you must be deaf. You should at least give him a thumbs up for his nice smile and happy attitude
@@weslenne352 ... no no - these are the guitarists who threw their guitar into the corner after the video and then remarked: damn ... please have a little empathy for them
What I love the MOST about every single song I've ever heard Tommy play is the unexpectedness of so many notes he slips in. He "abuses" a famous melody with random chromatic accidentals; his fills and runs always go somewhere bizarre you DON'T expect them to go; his chords are soooo harmonically complex and you don't know what key they come from.
One solo guitar can wipe out an orchestra in excitement...and give one new respect for expert guitarists. And Tommy Emmanuel must have started his guitar lessons while still in his mother's womb. This is such a delightful listen!
Since my best friend died I have never found anybody that wants to be friends in this town so I just go to work and come home and give those things that I like to give to others around me because that's what God has given me the gift of giving
Wish I could go back in time to appreciate Tommy & Phil, saw them many times at various pubs around Sydney, they were playing covers & were damn good but being young & drunk we didn't realise the greatness we were witnessing.
Damn! I'm a guitarist/singer. Got about as much talent as Tommy has at the very tip of one of his little fingers. But I feel the shear joy that comes from nailing such a piece as this. Beautiful.
Tommy is the one guitarist in the world who NEVER seems to be out of tune. The Maton? Or the strings? Especially the way he tortures the strings and neck with his bends and percussion. And always such an incredible tone.
Tommy doesn’t need copyright because nobody can play his songs
If I'm praying for this man all I ask for him is long life and good health
Me too.

...Tommy Emmanuel is not a musician.........................................he is a magician!
fineartist this comment is magical
Genius!
Tommy is to a guitar what Ephraim Reyes is to a billiard game! Both are gifted!
yeees he is
No actually he is a musician check TH-cam carefully (We know that it’s a joke)
In this world, if anyone can be called a musical genius, then it's surely Mr Emmanuel.

Spot on!
I guess you never heard John James playing?

Only a micro-percentage of players have spent their entire life doing nothing but playing their instruments and making a leaving out of it.
Um, excuse me... But I have 2 words for you: Joe Pass. Suddenly all these other players become "wannabe's". Nuff said.
the most complete and accomplished guitarist ever, saw him live in Arkansas, could not believe what i was seeing and hearing.
That's just about as damn near to perfect as I think it can get. My lord!

Love this!!! He is absolutely phenomenal 💯🎶❣️❣️
"think of all the money you'd be saving"
Yet he is one of the most expensive band!

I wish I can hit the 'Thumbs Up' button on this comment multiple times!
What a guy !!! To have that ability and remain so humble is why I just adore Tommy 👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏
I've never seen anyone play it all the way he does and and is so humble who expresses his gratitude to other musicians.
Humble?!!!
This is beyond music....you are witnessing a musical genius. In 20 years time he will be appreciated for sure. Love your talent Tommy.
One of the greatest masters of all time!
tommys got more talent in his nail clippings than most will ever have a legendary performer
This is amazing! I don’t understand how anyone could give it a thumbs down, it’s ridiculously good!
Some people don't like his personality, or it could be from some classical guitar purists...
I know just about enough to comprehend how ridiculous insanely impossible his level is.
Tommy is unbelievable, fabulous and a great personality to go along with his virtuosity!!!
Could have done without the boomer jokes. Cheesy and worn out.
One solo guitar can wipe out an orchestra in excitement...and give one new respect for expert guitarists. And Tommy Emmanuel must have started his guitar lessons while still in his mother's womb. This is such a delightful listen!
Wow, what a guitarist, never heard anyone who can play this great
either you have the mojo or you don't and he has it....this talent is not possible to pass on....so enjoy while we still have him around
How much better could anything be?
Since my best friend died I have never found anybody that wants to be friends in this town so I just go to work and come home and give those things that I like to give to others around me because that's what God has given me the gift of giving

Tommy E is the finest guitar picker in the world. Thank you so much. I would love to see you play in person.👍
My smile of the day!!! This is unbelievable.
I never get tired of this video
Tommy Emmanuel is master of bass, lead and rhythm guitar 😁❤️
Incredible entertainer! Skills like no other. He seems to like what he does as well.
Wish I could go back in time to appreciate Tommy & Phil, saw them many times at various pubs around Sydney, they were playing covers & were damn good but being young & drunk we didn't realise the greatness we were witnessing.
Very smooth indeed. What a rendition
Fabulous, as always. One of Tommy's best arrangements -- just the way Count Basie's orchestra would play it, only with fifteen more guys.
He even had the "Basie Ending."
Frano, the upcoming Tommy Emanuel.

Tommy never ceases to amaze. I cannot imagine how he does it, and makes it look easy, and that he is having fun too !!! incredible man
Shout out to the whole band playing up there! Amazing work Tommy, Tommy, Tommy, and of course Mr. Emmanuel.
😊
Thank you Mr. Emmanuel
Only 1,674,292 views? This piece is incredible.
The fact that there's not a single accurate tutorial for this just speaks for itself.
The power of Chet to pull this talent in, and TE keeps it going. Just keeps getting better
OMG !! What a performance!! Tommy putting it all on the kine !! Amazing !!
love that he gives credit to Chet where credit is due. :)
