May I use a roller, as well, to use this chalk-based paint? I know that I may use a sprayer with paint that has been watered down a little by 15 to 20 percent.
I am painting my mother’s china cabinet. Should I paint the inside of the draws also? It was a dark tan color and I am making it black. Any suggestions>
Hi Donna, You absolutely could, but once filled you may not see it. Sometimes the inside of cabinets is raw wood and in that case you'd want to prime it to give it a bit more durability. Hope that helps!
Hi Victoria - This was from a live TH-cam event so it does kind of end abruptly. Amy sign-off “It’s your turn now to take this knowledge and go enjoy the bragging rights." Is there something we can help you with?
Hi Jose - If your China Cabinet is made of wood then you do not need to stain, sand or strip the cabinet first. You should clean it with either Amy's "Clean Slate" or a degreaser like Simply Green to get all the dirt, grime and oil off the cabinet. Then go right ahead and paint it using her chalk-based paint. If you want to add more of a shine to the paint, then you will want to add liming wax after the paint has fully dried. Hope this helps! Feel free to ask more questions or visit a local Ace Hardware!
Do some of you watch videos just to leave snarky comments? Nasty and useless. I love Amy's videos. It appears that some of you were never taught manners.
I rescued my mom's old Ethan Allen coffee table with a color called Barefoot in the Park which picks up a lot of the colors in the rug it sits on. I was in love with the chalk paint finish. Then I ruined it by applying the clear wax. No one told me that I didn't need to apply that wax. Now it looks like I may as well have used cheap satin spray paint on the piece. How can I get that wax off and go back to the original chalk finish? I was horrified that the cross hatch pattern of the wax won't buff out either, looks like bad texture. This table gets hard use, that is the only reason I used the wax. On these tutorials you come out and say the piece is sealed by just the chalk paint alone but no one at Ace told me that. They wanted me to buy the wax too. That came to $50 by the time I got the qt (because the color I wanted wasn't available in the smaller containers.) Bummed. I'd appreciate some help here.
I would really appreciate that I have enough paint left to repaint it if i can go over that wax, the can says wait an hour to buff, the tutorial says 30 min Maybe that is part of the problem? Also it says in the tutorial to wipe off the waxed brush on a piece of cardboard before brushing the painted piece, again this is not on the can directions.
Hi Meridee - I've followed up with our expert. You can remove Amy Howard at Home Clear Wax with Clean Slate it looks like this www.acehardware.com/product/index.jsp?productId=108348866 or mineral spirits. The Clean Slate will remove just the wax and not the paint. The Amy Howard website has a phone number and email option available if you want to send photos of your piece to get more detailed questions answered: amyhowardhome.com/contact/
