      Yeah too many times people make jokes about the unintelligibility of the low notes, when its their playing that is the problem. Ya gotta dooooom with the low notes brah. I mean id never get a 9 string but like, pitches this low via 7 string downtuning + pitchshift are dope

    • @notfabeltier
      @notfabeltier 4 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      Sure, playing slower makes some sense in lower tunings.
      And there is some science behind it :)
      For example, if you have C#0 on bass or a 9-string guitar pitched an octave down, which is about 17.3 Hz, it means that a sine wave should complete approximately 17.3 vibrations per second, so the note could be some kind of audible. And playing fast doesn't allow these vibrations to ring out or simply a sine wave doesn't have enough time to perform a needed amount of vibrations.
      And eventually, it's gonna be inaudible and sound like a sub-frequency mess.
      That's kinda it :)

    Ok, this got me curious. I have an EHX Pitch Fork, which can go down three octaves. I wonder if I were to take my bass, and plug it into the pedal, and shift down three octaves, if the speakers in my 4x12 will even be able to reproduce that low of a frequency. No idea how many Hz three octaves below a bass guitar low E string would be, but I'm super curious to see if it's even within a 12" guitar speaker's audible range.

    You should've dropped the guitar to low B or even low A, before doing this. The tension on your 9th string is too heavy to have the proper resonance/overtones and in the end sounds like a mud (some guys blame EMGs for this, but the problem is tension and strings all the way) . The same thing goes with bass VI guitars (becoming popular after LOATHE band) when guys using 90s in E octave below (guys from LOATHE using right gauges, btw), instead of Meshuggah's 70s gauges or something like that. The tension should be in guitar world, not bass.

I get this is the point of guitars being tuned this low already, with the "You're tuning your guitar into bass territory" thing but by this point, the root frequency is completely incoherent.
    It's was a fun experiment, but I think there's obviously a limit to how low you can tune a guitar and try to "make it a mid range instrument" still

    I can hear the difference better in the first 3 settings and then when he got to the octave. The rest were noticeable on the bend to me

    I was hoping you would also demonstrate the oct + dry setting, both with and without drums.

    Can't even hear the pitch, pure pick attack! Modern metal brilliantly encapsulated 😆

    Drop point 3 sounded the best of all them. But I could only really tell for the note that bends, all the others didn't sounded greatly different to me!

    I have an Agile 830 (8 string with 30" scale). It is just as capable of playing a low c# just like that 9 string. But I realize no matter how thick the string is, the scale length is simply not long enough for that note. I've tried. I don't like the way it sounds. I would instead do a distorted bass with the right processing. Unless of course, someone can find me a 34" scale guitar.

      Don't know if you still have the Agile, but I have a Schechter Hellraiser C9 (28" scale). The low C# is stable...with a 0.148 string lmfaoo. Seriously though, with the 148 on the C# and a 105 on on the F#, it's stable af. MUCH clearer than it was. Unwind bass strings and play with that. Get cheap singles. Hope this helps.

      @@Zordid0 With dual carbon fiber truss rods, it's stable af. It's a damn nicely screwed together guitar, especially for the price. Get a 10-52 6 string set and a really heavy 5-string bass set and make a set out of that if you can't find singles. It works, and is piano-clear on clean channel.

    Ok I am hearing this with my JBL speakers, which are not bad at all, concerning clarity, bass response, etc... If you don't bend I don't hear any note, unless some distorted throat noise...
