Nobu blew everyone away at the Cliburn Competition in 2009 at the young age of twenty....a very unique talent who despite his lack of sight performs as well as many highly respected pianists. Well known Cliburn judge, Menahem Pressler, (Beaux Arts Trio and Jacobs School of Music), was brought to tears by Nobu's playing. Maybe his lack of sight has given Nobu a different perspective on music. BTW His first name is Nobuyuki not Tsujii. My favorite pianists (Horowitz, DeLarocha, Peterson, and Tatum) have all passed away but talents like this come along and fill the gap.
About Tsujii's touch I agree with you: The sound he creates in this piece reminds me of those by George Shearing - these unbelievably beautiful and sensitive tones I admire so much, where do they come from?
So true. I'm tired of listening to other Asian pianists' Kapustin's pieces who are just obsessed in competing how fast they can play it. It's simply exausting. But this? Amazing. Relaxation. No other Asian pianists played like this. Nobuyuki is the answer for me. He has made me interested in Kapustin's music.

It's beyond ridiculous how each and every chinese pianist are always in this competition mentality of "i must be the fastest to not be a disappointment to my family", so just rush it, shit and piss all over the song to prove they're the "best". Meanwhile, japanese pianists are like : "hey, what if we make it sound... good ?" And BOOM -> Tsujii Nobuyuki. This guy is brilliant
truly scary...hands aside, he NAILS the music....I'm an instant fan! The only other times I felt this was Keith Jarrett doing jazz, Glenn Gould doing Bach and Murray Perahia doing Beethoven.
I am so happy to listen to Tsujii !!! He is fantastic. I wonder if the critics that wrote bullshits about him after the Van Cliburn 2009 are listening him playin Kasputin at 15 yold. !!! GO TSUJII !!!!!!!!

I was mistaken. It seems like he has recordings from volunteers who read out each individual note of the entire score for him to learn. Still insane, and even more so for the people who are willing to do that for him.
@demosj Actually i like this performance a bit more than hamelin from an interpretation standpoint. Tsujii plays more clean, more "secco", which i think is more loyal to Kapustin's own approach, whereas i think Hamelin is too "romanticised". Just my opinion though, takes nothing away from the fact that Hamelin is a super virtuoso also
@xodn3300 Oops, I guess I kinda overexaggerated the difficulty. After I tried varying the fingerings for each chord-trill thing, things were a little more smoother.
@tdavis2797 Indeed, kapustin is the real genious. It is Kapustin that have created new music out of his genious brain while Tsuji is - in a good matter anyway - 'merely' copying the scraps of a real genious. Not forgetting the fact that Tsuji still is a phenonemal pianist. But to say Tsuji is better than Kapustin would in a way be like saying Arthur Rubinstein is better than Chopin or Liszt or that Gould is more genial than Mozart or Beethoven
Sometimes a random feeling comes over me and I smell something that isn't there. Often times, the smell is something that I have never smelled before. When this recording started, I smelled a sweet perfume that I don't think I have smelled before. I wonder if I will ever smell it again.
@@OziCastle I don't think so, It's usually completely random and has no association with any current experience 99 percent of the time. It does correlate to old memories, but that's normal because the smell nerves and memory nerves are right by each other from what I hear.
nooo...keep in mind that Kapustin's recording dates back to 1986 and couldn't possibly generate that tone with the equipment provided to him. even currently, Kapustin continues to record on a "dated" instrument--to put it mildly. Tsuji's recording IS superior to that of kapustin's own. however, to say Tsuji is BETTER would warrant some reprehensible implications regarding Kapustin's mastery of the instrument.
Wow..I tried to learn this..left hand was a piece of cake. Then I tried the right hand....it made me want to give up immediately. It takes an immense amount of finger control to shift back between the thumb+pinky and the index+ring finger. Man..anyone have any advice to help me for the right hand?
A best player of Japanese, and marvelous play. Beside I hate those audiences, they DOESN'T know about anything of concert! Why they claps so fast?! I hope not go to concert at JAPAN. However, I love this guy
you find it dull ? On the contrary i find it incredibly expressive.... He's not placing everything in the tempo and accentuate just the right notes when he has too, in my opinion this is the one of the best performance i've ever heard, either in term of mechanic and sensibility

あまりにも美しくて、衝撃的で、聞いてると夢の世界へ誘われる。
