The village was originally called Eastern Point Harbour or Peggs Harbour in 1766. It's likely named after Saint Margaret's Bay, with "Peggy" being a nickname for Margaret.
Peggy's Cove Lighthouse, also known as Peggy's Point Lighthouse, is one of the most well-known lighthouses in Nova Scotia and is possibly the most photographed in Canada.
