- What if the Ottomans didn't exist in 1444 in EU4? What if Byzantium had big borders that they enjoyed hundreds of years before the EU4 start date? Well, let's find that out! I don't think I've ever seen an EU4 game where the Ottomans don't exist. Hell, I think Drew did a video years ago with them not on the map, but they popped out from rebels and ended up dominating the game still.

During my 7000 hours in this game, I have only seen a couple of games where AI (more often PLC + Albania) take Constantinople and all the Balkans, but they do not go to Anatolia. The ottomans are immortal lol

Doing a Byz to Rome run rn and this stuff is really satisfying to watch after restarting about 15 times
My strategy consists of taking over tripoli and simping for the ottomans
It feels like Paradox have generally improved the AI a lot - they keep doing these competent things, like forming Mughals and having a good Manchu game.
Getting rid of the natives balances the game so much better, that's the big downside of this patch, hope they solve it soon!

Yes I agree, I just wish they behaved better when coordinating in war, that’s my main gripe. And that they cheat with forts 😂
@@Chewbert hey if you ever do Hoi4 or Vic 2 you should do them with mods as that allows for crazier stuff to happen.

I do expect Byzantium to expand much more to the east than the ottomans usually do, because byzantium is less likely to ally some sunni nation and blocking it's expansion path
I can already tell this is the good timeline, with the Roman Empire surviving and all

If the Ottomans didn't exist, some random peasant would sole handedly have knocked over East Rome, all their misfortunes was the result of their own badness.
If they were so bad, how did they survive for almost a thousand years? Sure some of the fall was their fault, like the ang#loi, or romanos the 4th.
Until the 13th century byzantium had a huge amount of power soft power with the Orthodox countries and hard power with their top of the line army and a great navy

Basil the first was a peasant., The East Roman Empire was super unstable, and Constantinople even had farms inside it at the end because they didn't have room to have them outside. They had constant civil wars. It wasn't the Rome that was 1000 years ago before its end, their government structure was completely different.

You mentioned it briefly in the video but paradox really needs to fix or nerf new world nations.
Leviathen and its consequences have been a disaster for the human race.
This isn't a Leviathan issue per say. It was fixed in 1.32 and they tweaked some numbers in 1.33 that broke it again. The mechanics are fine, it's how quickly they happen with AI that makes it annoying af
@@Chewbert yeah agree actually. I remember origins patch addressing a lot of concerns and being pretty decent, but now natives are stupid OP again and there plainly are just too many tags at game start to have fun anymore, it takes me a few hours to get to 1449.
