There's a certain happy-proudness to his pronunciation; it's not over the top and it's believable, like a child that learned a brand new word last week and finally got a chance to use it in a sentence. If I ever get a chance to use this word I'm gonna mess up because I can't get this video out of my head.
Step 1: Watched Synecdoche, New York Step 2: Thought it was a good film, but didn't know what the fuck synecdoche meant or how to was pronounced Step 3: Looked up the pronunciation and found this link. Step 4: Oh christ almighty my sides are in orbit this hurts make the pain stop it's too real.
I always play this video before I teach this device to my class. And yes, I always laugh every time. And yes, I'm an English teacher. And yes, I'm a goofball.
This makes more sense than the actual pronunciation. Merriam-Webster's pronunciation of the word is remarkably similar to "Schenectady" (the city in upstate New York).
First PronunciationManual video I've seen... Totally thought this was the serious pronunciation for this word.... Was wondering what was going through my english teacher's head back in sophomore year when she taught us that this was pronounced "sin eck doh kee"
@kurtmcfried Must be that their using different pronunciations of the letters or that they're throwing in unneeded syllables or they're putting stress on normally silent letters.
A figure of speech in which a part is made to represent the whole or vice versa, as in Cleveland won by six runs (meaning “Cleveland's baseball team”).
lol i found this video when searching on google, "how to prounounce sy-" then synecdoche shows up. i then clicked this video, and literally had to think twice for a bit thinking if I've actually been pronouncing this word incorrectly, because the video looked very convincing. Lol it still made me laugh so much.
I saw this and laughed a little, then I walked away from my computer. Then I suddenly broke down laughing crying in my kitchen because I was thinking how this sounds like the instructor was just reading the word for the first time trying to teach people how to say it and they cut him off.
So I’m watching the movie Synecdoche, New York and realized that I didn’t know how to pronounce the word. Now I’ve been laughing for the last five minutes.
My English teacher played this in class and he genuinely thought this was a legit channel 😭 😂 😂
My teacher did that too
lmfao
Maybe your teacher should be fired
"And everybody flunked the English portion of the standardized tests. The faculty has opened an investigation."

There's a certain happy-proudness to his pronunciation; it's not over the top and it's believable, like a child that learned a brand new word last week and finally got a chance to use it in a sentence.

This makes more sense than the actual pronunciation. Merriam-Webster's pronunciation of the word is remarkably similar to "Schenectady" (the city in upstate New York).
Said this at my English exam during my analysis of Macbeth. My teacher was very impressed
Gotta love that confidence in his voice.

Then I suddenly broke down laughing crying in my kitchen because I was thinking how this sounds like the instructor was just reading the word for the first time trying to teach people how to say it and they cut him off.
I really wish I had the words to explain the laughing fit this video caused; I don't think anything will make me laugh like this again.
Perfect.
I've always said it "Schenectady". Thanks for correcting me.
love it
This made me laugh so hard my sides hurt!!
Here's a fun game: Listen to each of his videos on the playlist and try to determine what the word is without looking at the video.
Finally, someone pronounces it the right
So I’m watching the movie Synecdoche, New York and realized that I didn’t know how to pronounce the word. Now I’ve been laughing for the last five minutes.
What is a dody chody and how do i sign it????
