- Now its time to begin stacking the roof. This video covers the main roof rafters, most of which have tails, but also you can see how the rafters fit into hangers are the glulam across the entry. Think of that like a girder truss, then the front gable will frame over that.

Tim this reminds me of my Dad he is 87 Now but I remember hanging out as he built homes along the 1 mile now in Carmel Ca. The golf course we ran around on 60’s I was like 7 we were told stay around us don’t get in anyone’s way Jimbo!
His nickname was “Stud” thou why ? Now I was told later because him & my mom had a load of kids! In a row 4 plus a cousin lived with us!
He cut all his roofs never used a truss ! All customs some Spec’s but 100% a Carpenter!

Question: what do you do about the crown of the ridge beam? You snapped a straight line for the heal of the rafter but with a crowned ridge beam, wouldn’t that mess up either the air gap? It might also affect where the birds mouth hits the top plate.

Can I ask why you don't drop the ridge bean down a bit and cut a small bird's mouth on the ridge cut... so the rafters are sitting on top of the ridge.. I'm in Ireland so I don't know you're codes.. obviously you get earthquakes and such.. was just wondering... I call it a saddleback ridge...
Love your videos, build is looking good. Typically we run out lookers for the fascia that run back in to the roof a rafter or two. Is this something that will still need to be added? The rake wall top plate would then need to be notched for them? Always fun to learn different way to skin the cat........meow 😂

Is the ridge blocking just for the sheathing nailing? Or is there another purpose?
It also there for the ridge vent.

Vaulted ceiling?
Trusses are pretty common and quick, but a hand cut rafter system is so much more fun to frame. Looks nice too if you want vaulted ceilings.
Scissor truss optional. Still can vault some.
@@LemonySnicket-EUC Yeah, that’s true. But scissor trusses are infamous for deflection and splaying due to their shape. I’d personally never use them for that reason alone.
