Now I was told later because him & my mom had a load of kids! In a row 4 plus a cousin lived with us! He cut all his roofs never used a truss ! All customs some Spec’s but 100% a Carpenter! Much like you buddy! Like I told you I do finish and love it! I am asked all the time can you paint too? Sure? You just will not pay me after so I need it all up front ! Dad states; Craftsman like him ( you) don’t do everything! That’s a handyman! And they don’t do it all like a craftsman! That’s him! ( you). So Tim Dad says you’re a real good carpenter like he worked with! Touché Tim he does not give out those often!
So, you neglected to tell us how long it took to finish today’s project. We don’t know who came closest to the correct time! Great video by the way! We always enjoy watching you.
At first I thought you were more hacks like most builders on TH-cam…but I now realize your actually pretty darn good, and I almost feel guilty for thinking ill of you. I actually learned a few things, even after 40 years of swinging a hammer, and appreciate the dry humor.
Nice job all around Tim. I get so much more out of these than the old This Old House reruns ! Great video work on top of all else. Although I feel a little bit like the frog in the pan of cold water on the stove. TH-cam keeps incrementally adding commercials to my feeds.
I Was Already To Make A Complain But After I Hear In The Video “This Was The First Time 3 Of You Famed A Roof” Use Brackets Always. Brackets Are Better Than Only Nails. Amén.
Question: what do you do about the crown of the ridge beam? You snapped a straight line for the heal of the rafter but with a crowned ridge beam, wouldn’t that mess up either the air gap? It might also affect where the birds mouth hits the top plate.
Love your videos, build is looking good. Typically we run out lookers for the fascia that run back in to the roof a rafter or two. Is this something that will still need to be added? The rake wall top plate would then need to be notched for them? Always fun to learn different way to skin the cat........meow 😂
Can I ask why you don't drop the ridge bean down a bit and cut a small bird's mouth on the ridge cut... so the rafters are sitting on top of the ridge.. I'm in Ireland so I don't know you're codes.. obviously you get earthquakes and such.. was just wondering... I call it a saddleback ridge...
@@LemonySnicket-EUC Yeah, that’s true. But scissor trusses are infamous for deflection and splaying due to their shape. I’d personally never use them for that reason alone.

Vaulted ceiling?
Trusses are pretty common and quick, but a hand cut rafter system is so much more fun to frame. Looks nice too if you want vaulted ceilings.
