I had no idea who Lance Black was in his own right,I only recently learned that he is Tom Daley's husband. I didn't know what the video was about before clicking on it, but from the moment he opened his mouth, I was enthralled by his story telling...so glad I clicked play...inspiring, funny, touching...beautifully said.

y'know you don't have to put an ellipses after every sentence right? it's pretty annoying. and knowing about lgbt+ history is important in discovering yourself and joining the fight to help problems like suicide, stds, and discrimination. lance also wrote the movie milk. he spent about a year researching and interviewing people so he could make the story as realistic as possible. without that movie, many young people wouldn't even know who harvey milk was. for lgbt+ people struggling with sexuality or gender identity it can be very important to know that you're not alone and you have other people trying to help you. we need to start remembering people like marsha p. johnson, bayard rustin, and harvey milk because they were so so important in paving the road for what we have today and what we need to fight for for tomorrow.

Regretfully, I was ignorant of the amazing things he's done for our gay community until listening to this speech. The first nine years I was with the love of my life it was illegal for us to be married. It was one of the highlights of my life that I was able to be married to my husband, Clint. Clint passed away last year. I am grateful every day, that the last few years of his life, we were together as husbands. Thank you Lance for helping make that a reality.

Not just the way one deliver his speech but by the way one could tell a story and the emotions that lies behind the words, along the lines. Dustin, you really an inspiration and an amazing motivational speaker. You just remind me just now that what we need, not just in the aspect of leadership, that PASSION is what we need. In the course life, only we could achieve our dreams and aspirations with the passion that we should possess. It is the drive that will keep us going. No matter how many times we fail or how long the road may go, we will get there in the end.

Thank you for sharing your thoughts with us, Lance. I feel so honored to have heard part of your story, and then your thoughts of how we can work toward being more honest with ourselves and others, and achieve greater unity within our own diversity. All my best wishes for your continued success, both in your film work and in your recent marriage to Tom Dailey. You set a high example for us. Greg

Everything Lance said about speaking to those with different views than your own holds true of our best politicians. Ted Kennedy and John McCain were friends who worked together for the good of the WHOLE country, not just those from their own party. How sad and ironic that they both died from the same condition on the same day of the year. Maybe this is a sign that we need to return to the days of working together for the good of the whole. Beautiful words from Lance. I know his best work still lies ahead.

If he was acting in his presentation, I would give him an Oscar for his delivery. But it was real and where are the awards for such performances that can inspire and motivate people? So much passion, depth of emotion, awareness, intelligence? I wish we had leaders that had even half the quality of his talent for speaking with so much impact and effect. Thank you Lance. We need more leaders and philosophers like you ❤️

Apparently it's very likely that there already has been a gay president but to be openly gay would be huge. We have a young gay man running now who might be good. It would be a huge cultural step for America. Lance doesn't need to be president to be a gay role model and to make a difference though. He's already having a huge impact.

Thank you for this video. It has verified my lifelong belief how lucky I have been to have been born, raised, and lived my life in Canada. I have never experienced the things that Tom Daley talks about in his lecture. Additionally I thank the United Church of Canada for its non stop dedication to human rights for ALL. In Canada the United Church was at the forefront of rights for ALL including the LBGT community, sadly the community has forgotten that.

I remember When We Rise, seeing it on cable, which was the only way to find it in the US, and to this day I carry the mantra of that Young Gay Activist standing at the protest yelling louder than everyone else, "SAY THEIR NAMES!" Absolutely unforgettable, and brings me to tears to this day. Thank you, Lance.

One of Lance's gifts is his ability to create a safe space around himself and the person he is talking to. In that space he does not judge, he does not attack, he accepts his counterpart as they are. And then, within that space, something begins to change.

Unfortunately the way he described his childhood and his youth, is the same as the current situation in India regarding homosexuality. It has been decriminalized 3 years ago and I know so many of my friends who have had similar experiences as Lance' childhood. It's a long way to go for us but I'm really glad with at least the first few steps being taken towards a happier future and for our generation to be more inclusive and accepting. His address was so eloquent and perfectly placed together that it made me tear up just listening to it on multiple occasions. Thank you for being the person for others to look up to that you surely would've wished you had too. ❤️
