If you were around his crew back in the day they might have jumped you and put you in the ER for fun. I Great musician, but his gang (also called ST aka Sui’s) were dicks. If their friends hit a girlfriend that’s fine with them. Any punker who intervened got beatdown. Saw it
Suicidal Tendencies' music has saved COUNTLESS lives!! Mike Muir is a living Metal Legend!!! One of the greatest front men and singer/lyricist to ever live!
Love this dude he's so Real , he signed my concert shirt after a show waaaaay back in 1987 I was 18 , I am 51 now and still love and listen to these dudes !!!!!
Thanks Eric Blair for interviewing an icon like Mike Muir. He is a great influence to many people and for those with negative comments Click on something else. We ST fans we are here cause we wanna be. This guy is REAL and so is his voice at any level he speaks. His stuff all sounds different. That is TRUE TALENT.
I do drink, but if I asked Mike if I could buy him a beer, and he said no, I'd just ask him if I could get him that Pepsi he so badly wanted, and I'd even get him 2. This dude's the real deal, I've loved suicidal since the late 80's and still love em. He's pretty cool. I'm sure he has his faults as we all do but he seems pretty damn witty here.
its all he wanted but she wouldn't give it to him - coulda solved a lot of problems and ruined a great punk song in the future if u got his sugar high catered to ;)
Its really refreshing to hear someone with such a well grounded philosophy on life speak about their experiences and their ideology on "finding your own path". Hearing these perspectives really reinforces my thought process as I steer myself towards improving who I am and where my life is headed. I'm glad I watched this because although I've always liked Suicidal Tendencies, I've never really been that into them. I now have a different perspective. As my Senior Year Economics teacher always reminded us, everybody has their own perspective on life which is shaped by the experiences they have, just because your experiences have shaped your perspective one way does not mean that the person next to you will be the same. Enjoy your life the way you see fit, and avoid trying to force your views on those around you. :)
This interview blew me away. I've heard Mike talk before and was really impressed by how articulate he was. Now... I can see how intelligent he is and that he has his head truly screwed on straight. I love it!!!. Rockers do NOT have to be" Captain Stupid". Keep going Mike.
Always a message of strength, honesty, and believing in yourself. My 8 year old heard "you can't bring me down" and he loves it. I couldn't be happier : )
That was a good interview. The subject has no 'delay filter', and just answers quickly. Personally, I liked a lot of what he said too. The interviewer was wise in just letting him talk.
One thing that I've learned in life is if you ever forget where you came from then you're doomed to fail in life. You can always take the boy out of the ghetto but you can never take the ghetto outta the boy. These are the brothers and sisters that I love. Mike is O.G. truth teller. I'm so proud to have been born and raised in the exact same Barrio. Venice Beach. Thats why I am who I am. Love you Mike.
Mike is a very intelligent and talented person. I think he is well over the Pepsi. I was dying of cancer and my whole world was crumbling down, I cut everyone off from me. How will I laugh tomorrow if i can't even smile today, really helped me get through some very difficult times. I was roommates with Mike's cousin Frank good man. I just want to say hi and thanks to Mike and one of the best guitar player's ever Rocky. I love you guys, S.T.
Thank you for the years of music. I am having the hardest time in my life right now, and you in the band have actually made me feel better about everything. I’m kind of obsessing over you guys and Corrosion of Conformity and Sepultura. I’m a grown-up, and I think I’m having the worst time in my whole entire life, but you are making me feel OK
I've watched the whole interview (enjoyably - despite not knowing how long it was before I clicked to watch it!!), and I have to say - I'm very impressed! I toured with ST during their UK Tour in 1988 and Mike was extremely difficult to pin down. I was graced with a few photos, but he shuddered at me photographing him without his bandana. It's all in my book [Stars In My Eyes]. SUICIDAL changed my life in the 1980s - along with CRUMBSUCKERS - and I'm truly astounded at Mike's candid, open and honest interview here. I always knew he had it in him!!
I have always been a major fan of Mike Muir. He always speaks from the heart and it's always trying to inspire people to do what they feel driven to do.
Awe Man! I could listen to Mike talk all day long! His music and lyrics got me through so many tough times in life plus he's one of the smartest I've ever heard speak on life!
Never liked punk rock, but as soon as I heard "Institutionalized" I knew it was a masterpiece. In my mid '60s now and still listen to it. Everything about it and the great lyrics. It's a true masterpiece!
Great interview and life advice. Today is the 1st day I have heard Mike talking but listened to S.Ts from the 80s. My respect for S.Ts just went through the roof listening to this interview!
Very inspiring! I'm really glad I saw this video, I didn't really know Mike (although knowing ST for at least 25 years, and I saw them live in 1992), he is a really stand up guy, I admire him even more now (before it was for the music, now is also for the person), thanks and keep it up!
i thank God there were people like the punks of socal back in the day who felt it from the heart. i think theyre a national treasure because they fricking rock. i saw them in sd in 84 and had a blast. my favorite board was a 26 brown g&s fibreflex with trackers and road riders.
I wish I could have been around that back then, but I am 27 and I have saw ST back at Orion fest and it was amazing!! I am going to Rock On The Range in May to see them again and Slayer.
40 and Suicidal for life. They got me through 13-19. Along with others. Still wear my hat and it was MTV. My dad worked 3rd shift and he sat lacing his boots up as I watched "You Can't Bring Me Down" on Head Bangers Ball. He said "What is that shit?". I said "the best thing I have ever seen on this show!" Went out and not just bought Suicidal but lived it. An outcast for it but showed many what Suicidal was. You wouldn't know crazy if Charles Manson ate fruitloops on your front porch. Suicidal for life.
17th st. Surf Shop got me hip to them when I was 12. They were the first and best. Nobody sounded like them before them... and everybody tries to sound like them now.
How does that uplift the spirit, it makes me sad that people enjoy to tear others down? Sounds like his dad was what doing what he had to, to love and support his family. Sounds like a great dad!
First time I ever heard Mike talk. I've heard him sing several times back in the day. When he started talking about his first skate board and mentioning clay wheels. I too was a product of clay wheels. Then came the urethane rubber wheels. Chicago, Stokers. Mike has a since if knowing, I'm not going to explained it but he knows things and sees them for what they are. Mike is a knower and when I hear another knower talk that validates what I have come to believe. Venice his home town use too have a lot of magic .Not so much anymore but Mike reminded me of it what it use to be like in Venice. I can imagine the talk he and I would have about those clay wheels. God Bless Mike
I really enjoyed this. I’m 38, first saw ST on Beavis and Butthead as a kid, few years later went and bought the first album (on vinyl) at the local rec store, after I saw the movie Repo Man. Great interview.
I remember back in the late 80s, Suicidal was on tour with Queensryche, and there another show that night at a local club If you showed your stub from the ST, Queensyche show, you got in free. I believe the other show was Napalm Death, Nocturnus, and Godflesh.
Suicidal are punk rock poets. Big influence on my development. The he noise of my skateboard wheels blocked a lot of the subliminal BS that bombarded minds in the 80s and 90s. Thank you Mile
I'm one of the people that had Suicidal music help me get through high school. Blasted them before my football games a d made the All-Star team. Went to college a d graduated. Then in 2010 saw them in Portland, Oregon at the Roseland ballroom. They invented all the true ST fans to join them onstage to rock out. Excellent interview. Mike's always great and Blair asks thoughtful questions not the tired "when's the record coming out? or when are you going on tour?"
Always liked Muir, lots of heart, a hard worker. Wish I would’ve run into him in Venice or Santa Monica; I’d give him a big hug for How Will I Laugh Tomorrow-helped me out in high school.
THANKS FOR THE UPLOAD !!! I have been a huge fan of mikes for 30 years ! I am also now a fan of eric blair , who knows how to do an interview ! very well done brother !
Listening to him talk, makes,me wish I tried to meet him after the show I saw could have happened cause I got up on stage at one point to,dive into a crowd surf
Seen these guys play when How Will I Laugh came out. Met Rocky George and told him I wanted to meet up with him at Venice Beach boardwalk. I actually did make it there.
A lot of times i will quote Mike Muir and say "In the words of the reverend Mike Muir..." I am a software engineer who works in a office and most of the people i work with think that I am insane. ST for life!
He's so right about colleges! I went to college after high school and did the double degree of international studies/international business, the workload was too much for me at the time and some of the core topics like marketing and economics were boring as hell! I remember the adult re entry students and some were around 60! They always studied hard and got good grades because they were there to learn not to party or avoid work. I dropped out after a year and a half and got a backbreaking job in a factory, the pay was good but the work was awful! Injuries happened all the time and the old guys who worked there for over twenty years all had severe back injuries! One day after a very long hot shift I just snapped and realised I had to get out of there and go back to school. I gave my notice two weeks later and they offered me a big pay rise to stay but I just couldn't do it anymore! I was exhausted all the time, I had no time for my GF or my other friends so I quit and took two months off to recover and mend. While I was recovering I decided to go back to college, I applied using my previous entry score and I got into my first choice degree which was psychology. That was three years ago and now I'm doing great at college and actually enjoying the topics! The young people fresh outta high school struggle a lot more I've noticed? I'm always helping out where I can and trying to make them understand that hard work now pays off later in life. Most won't listen but I wouldn't have listened when I was their age either! 😂
For "dead beats, and wasters" we were/are an amazingly creative bunch, printing patches and shirts, painting shirts and banners, studding and painting jackets, making belts or boot straps, all of that. Good times, great people.
Mike Muir always has the most inspirational stories. I could listen to him talk for hours. He's as real as they get.
Definitely has his head on his shoulders and screwed on straight. Wise man for sure.....
same with me and i met him 3 times in NYC
NoValues Love Subhumans,Suicidal,Infectious grooves,Citzen fish,Culture shock etc.Why can't hardcore,punk, Metal, sound like that anymore!
@@tobymassingale3490 it can we just need more people to stop following trends and start doing what they want with music
Totally. I love hearing what he has to say. Such a cool dude.
A real under rated hard rock soldier who's made so much great music, punk, hardcore, thrash, funk metal and more.
A true icon, I had a lot respect for his ability to speak for a lot of us in the late 80s! A real street poet!
You cant bring him down!
It's probably good in a strange way. They would have taken them and corrupted their pure sound.
Bands like this were the only thing that gave me confidence.. even when people close to me were tearing me down. Thanks S.T.
If you were around his crew back in the day they might have jumped you and put you in the ER for fun. I Great musician, but his gang (also called ST aka Sui’s) were dicks. If their friends hit a girlfriend that’s fine with them. Any punker who intervened got beatdown. Saw it
Glad you just say his creative side. Very talented man. But hard drugs and violence back in the day
Suicidal Tendencies' music has saved COUNTLESS lives!! Mike Muir is a living Metal Legend!!! One of the greatest front men and singer/lyricist to ever live!
Helped save mine. Suicidal, LSD & weed, Grateful Dead, my kids & their mom.
They saved my life
mike, you have and currently are saving my life. i can’t even begin how much i cherish you and ive never even met you.

punishedexistence seems like a nice guy to me, he's cool.
This is the best musician interview I have ever seen.
Mike just pour his heart out everytime he speaks. Just like an insecure gentle kid with an old mans wisdom. Pure inspiration
Insecure gentle kids pour their heart out when they speak? I’m not giving you shit, I just never really thought about that or knew that.
Mad Love for Mike Muir! He is a good example of not judging a book by it's cover. What a good dude!
if i passed by Mike, i would give him a pepsi
