Check this nautical door mat I made with a 25 foot piece of half inch / three strand rope tied into a flat knot - the Ocean Plat. Makes a great rainy day project - on land or at sea. For a bigger mat simply make more passes (however, 4 passes or more will require more than a single strand). #knots #rope #skills

Alright today on Repairs101 I’m going to show you how to create a mat using a single strand of rope and tying it into a flat knot called the Ocean Plat.
This episode of Repairs101 is sponsored by Princess Auto.
Now Ashley says you can tie this knot hanging from a peg on the wall the way I did with my Cargo Net Hammock video, but I’m going to lay it out so you can see the pattern evolve.
You know, at first it may seem like an exercise in advanced spatial reasoning but if you just follow the pattern, you’ll see it’s really quite simple.
OK that’s what it should look like before you get into the second pass.
Periodically you’ll need to stop and sort it all out and chase the slack out of the knot into the loose ends.

It's interesting, but very time-consuming for such a small mat.
I have been looking for a video for several hours now on how to weave a quick net for blinds or a chair seat from a single rope. I've seen your seat made of cheap jute rope, but my idea is to use thin nylon, maybe a 2mm or 4mm paracord, or a softer and cheaper nylon cord that doesn't require multiple layers of braiding for strength.
It should not be very strong, like a fish net, but it should keep its shape hanging freely vertically. Therefore, she does not need to tie every intersection, but some rows should be a solid foundation for other free ones.
It should let in diffused light, to pass through 1/4 or 1/8 of the light. There is no need for a solid cloth made of rope.
In a good case, it should easily slide into a roll like a straw roller blind and keep a flat shape when unfolding, rather than winding into a shapeless tangle.
A good feature would be the ability to scale and modularity, so that you can knit small modules in place and tie them in the right amount, and not knit a huge fabric, stretching 100 meters of rope in it.
Sorry for the automatic translation. Probably my thought is not clear everywhere.

To create a larger mat use a thicker diameter rope and create more passes - but be warned more than 4 passes will likely require cutting the rope and rejoining it in the mat - to make the length of working line manageable.

You do not give explicit directions! I kept running out of rope on the monkey knot because you didn’t instruct to pull out 2 or 3 foot before you start wrapping it around your fingers. Please give full detailed instructions in your tutorial otherwise you leave your watchers e trembly frustrated! Like me! Finding another tutorial to learn how to do this. Thanks
