    A little disclaimer since a lot of people commented on the editing in the images. I wanted to show what these will look like processed the same way, and since there were a lot of pictures I went with some Lightroom Presets. I agree that I could have done much better job with these, and the only picture I actually edited in Photoshop was the on Courtney laying in leaves ( I think it shows)
    Next week's video will be in my regular fashion, with proper editing, stay tuned :)

      Loved the video, it's absolutely true that the best camera is the one in your hands! My first camera was a Sony a6000, I currently shoot with the a7RIII. The jump in megapixels was incredible and the camera has so many great features, but I was still able to take good shots with my previous camera. It just wasn't as intuitive or easy to nail focus and things like that.

      I shoot with two different cameras and the lens aren't that great at all. To compensate for my lens quality, i improve my compositions by knowing my camera and its functions. How I pose my subjects and working on and improving my Photoshop skills.

    Without a doubt, the most important aspect of a good picture, is the photographer. I believe that the a good photographer is the one who has to have a good eye at capturing the best images, regardless of the equipment . Yes, the pictures taken with the more expensive camera, looked better imo, but the ones taken with the more affordable camera, look fantastic as well, thanks to the photographer. I'm sure that if I was given the Canon 5d mrk iii, my images wouldn't look so good, because I don't have an eye for photography. If you're talented, your talent will shine, regardless of the equipment.
    P.S Also, the model is absolutely stunning.

    Skill is what make a photographer, not gear. Your camera can have eye auto focus, but if you cant create a good composition, then what is the value of the latest and greatest.

    Generally it makes no sense to compare something by ideal conditions :) the difference between 300 and 5000 dolar equipment becomes dramatic by dramatic/hard concidtions - wedding shooter who has to take great pictures but in very dark room (sensor nois, iso capability etc...), shooter who shoots sport and needs burst etc... by golden hour in open light environment with one standing subject even more cheaper setup would produce very fine results for average audience :)

    • @IreneRudnyk
      @IreneRudnyk  6 ปีที่แล้ว +35

      I think that most people realize that you would need special equipment to shoot nature, wild life, etc. I shoot portraits, so that's how I compared the two setups :)

    • @notmyname8527
      @notmyname8527 6 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      Yes for events I need the dual SD card slot, Fast AF, High Dynamic range etc . thats the only reason i go with a more expensive camera. but you can use the 85 1.2 on the cheaper camera too.

    I love this! My first DSLR was the Rebel XS and first prime was the 50 1.8 II- it still holds it's own in ideal lighting conditions agains my 5Dmkiii + 85mm, so I was excited to pass it down to my "tog in training" little sister to learn the basics on.
    Great comparison! It gets much trickier in lighting that has a lot of contrast and dynamic range, as the XS and XSi will struggle against the 5Dmkiii, as well as nailing focus in lower light- but this short comparison does show that it is much more the artistic vision than expensive gear that produces lovely portraits.

    I wanted to share a story which happened to me today, that kinda goes with this video. I recently upgraded from a Canon t1i, which i practiced on for over a year, to a t6i, with a Sigma 17 - 50, 2.8. I was in Lake George village in upstate NY taking pics of foliage. As I sat for a coffee break, at an outside table, a couple walked by with what looked like Sony cameras. As they walked by, the woman looked at my camera, which was sitting next to me on the table, and said "It's a t6i, must be an amateur, and they both burst out laughing. At first I was mad, but soon realized that I had nothing to be upset over, and they were clearly acting like jerks. I always encourage people interested in photography to learn the basics with whatever gear they can get their hands on, including cell phones, and focus on learning light, composition and of course watching videos like yours, Manny Ortiz, and Tony and Chelsea Northrup, which is how I learned. I understand that better equipment can make a difference, but hours spent making mistakes on cheaper equipment can do more than expensive equipment can do. Thank you for all the time you put into these videos, and sharing your knowledge. You are an amazing photographer and an inspiration to many of us.

    Hi Irene, God I love your images.You have so clearly demonstrated how the equipment really doesn't matter with a skilled and artistic photographer.

    I agree with your assessment 100%. There is an observable difference in image quality, but it's not big as the price difference. You do get what you pay for in some respects - but a creative photographer such as yourself can pull a lot out of inexpensive kit. Nice video.

    Just want to say I love your photos and I wanted to ask how do you change the color on your pictures do you use a app for the filter or can you change the color on your camera?

    It's great to see that you can still get great photos with a cheaper camera. However I'm not sure on the editing I definitely prefer the original photos over the doted this time round xx

    So true. Great message. Still have an old Rebel Xt 8MP, and just recently took some pics just for fun with it. Color and rendition is quite nice, though manually focusing a vintage lens with a dark, tiny viewfinder is challenging. Amazing picture quality for a camera that can be bought for under $100 (probably with a kit lens too).
    These old cameras are great for teaching kids the basics. Enjoy handing the old Xt to my 8 and 9 year olds when we go picture-taking and they have a blast with it.

    If you get closer the person to you will get same background as on 1.2 and the blurry effect can be done in photoshop. You have to compare those cameras in darkness to understand high iso on both cameras.

    Love the leaves all around her like a back drop. Had to laugh when you gasped as she moved the hat and you saw a great shot and you went for it. I do that too, most of the time those are my best photos.

    Have you consider moving into mirrorless yet? EVF will give you much conveniency to review image during bright light and tilting LCD can enable you to shoot without stepping chair. Plus they are the future, get an A7R3 and adapter you can continue to use your glasses.

      I think it's pretty obvious from this video how I feel about tech. I am quite happy with my old mrk iii, and what's not broken doesn't need to be fixed :)
      Also I would still continue using my step ladder because of my height. I can turn on the live view on my camera and shoot, but I prefer the step ladder, much more comfortable then holding the camera above my head.

    Beautiful model, amazing photos. You've mastered this type of photography, so even with cheap gear you still make great photos. The out-of-camera images look great even without post-processing. Great job.

    Great comparison. I still shoot with the cropped sensor camera i started with 5 years ago, Canon T3i and get beautiful results paired with the 85mm and 50mm 1.4 lenses. I cant wait to upgrade to FF but in the meantime, I'm comfortable with 18mp. Great shots, great model by the way.

    I think the only real difference between these photos is the composition. And I preferred the composition of the xsi. Yes, 2 photos taken exactly the same, the 5d iii would produce better images. Crop sensors don’t mean worse pictures. It just means different composition

    I’ve been casually getting into photography for some time now. I notice Irene talks about the focusing points. How are these best utilized? I always use the center Point to focus on the eyes and then recompose. Is it better to move the point? It’s a bit tricky to change the point each time for me on my camera. Or is this something you learn to be quick with? Thanks for the vid!

    • @IreneRudnyk
      @IreneRudnyk  6 ปีที่แล้ว

      I would recommend you move them to the models eyes, it much more reliable than focus and recompose.

    I have Nikon D3400 and I'm new to this. Why do I have to wait so long to take another picture between shots? I want to take like three pictures within 3 seconds, but don't really want to use my burst option that does it automatically. Any idea what I'm doing wrong?
