Avi is definitely spiritual! I think the chorus is like a mantra, repetitive on purpose. Avi said he wrote and produced this song to be cathartic. The "choir" in the background is all Avi. Thanks for a great reaction, I'm so happy when other people appreciate what Avi is all about! FYI, he just posted this morning that big news is coming Friday. Hopefully, an album and tour! Cheers!
Yes you definitely understand Avi & his music; I agree with you - "it's top tier". Avi Always delivers! Everything about his music/lyrics are spiritual, deeply soulful and touch us in our hearts. This is an absolutely Beautiful song, meant to bring "Healing" to a world on fire! One thing about Avi is he always surprises us, he doesn't want to be put in a box- so there isn't a deep bass in this song!! WOW indeed. For me the simplicity of the video, the piano - force us to listen to the lyrics & hope in the future. 😍Thank you for this great reaction Cole. 👏👏
I have been waiting for this for what seems forever. I like this the first time I heard it and each time I hear it I like it more it really strikes a chord with me. I love the fact that Avi doesn't always go low, only when the song wants it. SO looking forward to your next Avi reaction.
Avi is incredible in both his music and his words! The fact that this perfection is his "scratch" recording is mind blowing ~ His friend Daniel Ellsworth is amazing on piano always ~Thank you for the wonderful reaction, Standing by for more!
So glad you’ve reacted to this song, I honestly think it’s AVI at his best, your reaction is always honest and understanding, Avi has said there might be a surprise this Friday!! 💜🫶🏼💜
I knew you’d love it! As a dedicated Avi-cionado, I agree with you that this is “top-tier Avi” and that his lyrics are poetry. I feel that the repetition of the word “healing” mirrors the fact that healing takes time. This is pure bliss for my soul. Look forward to your next reaction. For some of those beautiful velvety low notes, I suggest “When I’m a fool” from his EP “Avi Kaplan live at Sunset Sound”, it’s magnificent.
Brilliant! Once again a great song with lyrics that touch you deep in your soul, sung by, for me, the best singer with such a unique, beautiful voice and that together with great piano playing is so wonderful. Avi is not just anyone. He is an instrument of life. One that can take me to high realms again, when I am deep.
I just love your appreciation of the musician that Avi is! Avi said in an interview that this recording was the scratch recording that they chose because of the emotion he had when he walked in the studio. My personal (uneducated) thought about the repetition of the chorus is that it allows the listener to focus more on the piano, which becomes more “upbeat” as the song progresses. I’m sure there are technical terms but as a layperson, this is what I hear when listening. Thanks for your amazing reaction! Can’t wait for more!
And the great piano part was done by Daniel Ellsworth, who was the keyboardist on Avi's first solo tour back in 2019, and he was also the pianist on all 4 songs in the Sunset Sound Session that Avi and his producer Shooter Jennings did last year with some of LA's best studio musicians. Check out "When I'm a Fool" to really hear Daniel's awesome playing.
Speaking of Daniel, Avi posted this Short of Daniel playing his piano part. It was recorded "acoustically", direct from the piano via microphone. th-cam.com/users/shorts0mDcXeza9Jg
I like Avi’s voice very much! I really like the jazzy folk sound this has. I catch myself walking around with the repetitive “healing” going through my head. Carol’s weird and quirky mind: When you said you didn’t like repetitive choruses, I immediate thought, “Man, I bet he hates those ‘praise songs’ that seem to be everywhere!” 😂
This is just raw emotion, and it cuts me every time. Between the lyrics and vocals, you can't help but feel it. The meaning hits me personally, but fits what's happening in the world today. Avi is incredible!
Of course the choir is all Avi.

The voice control just floors me.

I think the piano in that last section was the showpiece.
