Peter Johnson I am the same, Peter. While I’ve played piano all my life, I’m terrible at theory, but I know what I love to hear. There is something very special about the way Marc-André Hamelin plays, and especially how he plays Fauré. It’s almost as if it transcends reality and it becomes ethereal, magical. I can instantly recognize his playing, sight unseen; he seems, at times, to barely touch the keys and, unlike many players, he is not theatrical in his movements, just concentrating on those fingers! So, let’s just love his playing, Peter.
anybody who plays faure/berg/rachmaninoff/ravel/chopin PLUS his own works as STUDENDOUSLY and IN PUBLIC is almost unimaginable...many thanks for posting this.....a true piano TITAN in our midst....how lucky we are to be able to hear/see HAMELIN!

I only came 'into' classical music when I realized it contends SO many different things, and you don't have to like it all! Go for what speaks to you!
Faure is so hard. I practice this impromptu every day and think I will never reach his level of comfort.

Actually, Fauré is known but mostly in France
You are in for a treat with the Barcarolles and Nocturnes, especially the former.
Played with dexterity and a real sense of inner relationship to the music. Wonderfully realized. Bravo!

This is got to be one of my favorite youtubers and my favorite performer. Bravo... It won't be long before I start collecting Hamelin's recordings.
