    This is another phenomenal vidro! In my youth, I was a naturalist/teacher at the Pool Wildlife Sanctuary in Emmaus, PA. That was 35 years ago! Your videos are a great tool for anyone who really wants to learn the ins and outs of binoculars in detail! Thank you! I learned a few things while watching! Fabulous! Now that I'm retired in FL, I get the birds to come to me! LoL!

    As someone who is getting into vintage binocular collecting, this video series has been invaluable when trying to parse the terms used on cloudyskies and birdforum. As with any new hobby, parsing the vernacular from old hands is 70% of the battle! Thank you!

      @@JDWTalks If you have the time, can you do a deep dive into rebuilding diopter lens housings? I'm a visual learner and am having trouble rebuilding a set of older Sears 600* series. Thanks for you time 🙂

    Aloha. I thought I'd research how to fix a pair of BUSHNELL "Powerview" binocs for my elderly lady neighbor. Got to at least try. The problem is double vision. Mahalo for the input. I'm mechanically inclined and have believed for a long time that if man can make it, man can fix it. I'm working on finding/making the proper tools needed. Thanks for the help.

      Remember, the first step is to exchange the front objective lens barrels and see if that works. Mark with a pencil where the original barrels fitted into the body.

    as a rule, with small binoculars, the image shakes, the eyes get tired. What is the stability of the stillness of view with the Nikon 6x15 and Nikon 8x20hg, with the Zeiss 8x20, Trinovid 8x20, the image shakes, shakes! Are the Japanese ones better?

    • @JDWTalks
      @JDWTalks  10 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Images don't shake, hands shake. The small binoculars have small pupil sizes, and thus make it difficult to align the user's pupil to the binoculars pupil. 6X15 (15/6) and 8X20 (20/8) have the same pupil size. Other variables including center of gravity, ergonomic design, eye relief, weight of binocular, and muscle memory all play a role in binocular use. If those binoculars were put on a tripod, the image wouldn't shake.

    Hello...My Binocular Lens has Big Scratch.....How can I clean that lens??Please reply

    • @JDWTalks
      @JDWTalks  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Hi,
      Sorry for that. I don't think you can polish out the scratch as it will degrade the coating on the lens that is necessary for the brightness of the image. Is the binocular under warranty? Does the manufacturer fix their binoculars and have you inquired about the cost? It there a similar one on sale on one of the auction sites that you can swap out pieces, but then you are going to have to align the binocular? Does the scratch make a real difference in the image quality or are you obsessing on something that is more aesthetic? How much are these binocualrs and if not much, perhaps it's time to donate them and go up to a better pair?

    Hi I put some prix binoculars back together, they only focus on short distance. The longer horizon focus is not achievable. Am I missing something?

    • @JDWTalks
      @JDWTalks  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Will the ocular mount come out of the binoculars when you reach the end of the focus turns? Perhaps and I don’t know much about your model the screw that holds the ocular shaft within the central cylinder has unscrewed and the synchronization is now off

    i have Nikon Trailblazor 10x25. Is it even possible to fix the collapse/folding mechanism? One side is rigid and works good. The otherside has no tension. So 2 hands required to use them. I have no idea how to get it to stiffen up again.

    • @JDWTalks
      @JDWTalks  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hi, Your binocular is still being made, and runs in the $80 range on Amazon. Is it just the hinge and not the focus mechanism? Assume it's just the hinge tension. Have you: 1. put in the model number on TH-cam to see if someone else has the problem and solved it? 2. checked the comments on Amazon? 3. Explored whether there is a warranty on this produce? After all that, if still no resolution.... this is what I would do. The binocular is not a classic, probably does not have some family story attached to it/some treasured gift. And if you are the only one using it, and it's basically worthless the way it is.... then I would take some strong epoxy glue and cement it in place making sure the oculars are the same distance apart as your eyes. Make sure what you do doesn't interfere with holding it or focusing it. Put a protection (saran wrap?) around the ends protecting the glass surface as some glues emit vapors that might condense on the glass surfaces and introduce a new problem while "fixing" the old one.. But keep in mind if you do the cementing, it's going to be usuable only to you and would preclude any other fix.

    I have a pair of decent old binoculars--Audubon Equinox HP 10x42 Binoculars Sheltered Wings. I think that the eyepiece screw threads are stripped. I had duct tape holding the eyepiece, and that works. I am guessing there is not much else to do. Any ideas? Thanks

    • @JDWTalks
      @JDWTalks  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hi, do you have an emotional tie to these binoculars? Or is it time to get a better pair. Probably a good pair of roof prism binoculars today would cost about $200 or so dollars. But... are you talking about the eye shields on top of the oculars, or the eyepiece that moves to equalize the difference between your eyes? Do you want the eyepiece not to move? Consider Permatex medium strength threadlocker blue. Or do a standing search on eBay for a binocular like yours for parts. Good luck.

    You say how to adjust the dioptre but not how to fix it, I can't adjust it properly as it is end of scale , can I some how shift the scale? So I could adjust a little bit more.
    When I look at objects that are close then I'm able to adjust to the sharp point, but when I look far away I can't adjust right eye as the scale finish and can't turn anymore .
    It there a way to fix this ?
    It's a Celestron skymaster 15x70

      Are there tiny screws that hold the eyepiece casing to the lens cylinder? Is it slipping? Do the eyepieces move up and down together on their yokes or does one lag indicating a looseness in the connection or even a break? Is you model covered by one of the binoc TH-cams for help? Is it still under warranty? This is a big binocular probably for astronomy..... Good luck with your problem.

    35:00 A person in a birder group who has to back up while trying to view a bird with binoculars is an embarrassment. Don't be that guy. Choose the right type of binoculars to view bird close up or else the birding group complainers might see to it that you are not invited to go with the group to look at birds any more.

    • @JDWTalks
      @JDWTalks  ปีที่แล้ว

      I don't think that is the way to handle that situation. The group leader or fellow birder should inquire what the problem is.... the birder's equipment or perhaps some eye problem. One shouldn't jump to conclusions just from the situation posed.
