Preserving our wonderful traditional Indian cooking--roti of all kinds created by our ancestors who made the same thing in different ways so it will taste different!! Creativity arising out of poverty. God bless our great ancestors who passed on their traditions to us, traditions that live on through people like you making this delicious dosti roti.
I am from India and this is their second video I am watching . I guessed they must be of Indian origin as their features and the food they prepare looked very Indian . Your comment clarified it for me . Thanks
Our ancestors were from India most of them but not all of them came Bihar and UP as well west Bengal, punjab, Kolkata, 0morden day Pakistan and Bengal dish, Tamil Nadu. They were brought by the British to British Guyana on May 5 1838. The Indians were brought to Trinidad on May 30th 1845. Indians were also brought to surinam, Fiji, martius, south Africa. The first country the Indian were brought to was martius. In 1830's the British outlawed slavery but the British still need labor to replaced the slaves so they went to India as a form of cheap labor but in reality it was human trafficking thousands of Indians left lndia and was shipped to the west indies, south pacific, and Africa under a system known as the indured system ppl from India were sometimes tricked because they didn't know English. British would sometimes tricked them like that scene from RRR . Others sometime were kidnapped some them would be sold to British by the family members that had to pay debt and while others volunteered went to Caribbean. The Indians that went to the Caribbeans was called coolies which ment cheap labor it was derogatory term that is still use today we took that word that was supposed to dehumanize us and took that word and made it a sense of pride. They were only payed 25 cents or less how the indured system worked was that u would sign a contract to work 5 to 10 years on the sugar plantations when you was done you could return to India but in reality a lot of time the British didn't have money to send them back home to India, or if they did they would bribe them with land, however some of them were returned back home to mother india. When the Indians came to the Caribbean they brought their food, music, clothes, jewelry, religion, and culture with them when the Indians came to Caribbean they didn't have the same ingredients or stuff the had in India so they made do with what they had here in the Caribbean by infusing Indian cuisine when Caribbean cuisine foods that are still enjoyed today like curries, roti, dahl, channa, aloo, Achar, sweets like bafi, galab jamun, jalebi. A lot Indian words are used in Caribbean English words like didi for big sister that what I call my sister, cha che for paternal uncle, mamoo for maternal uncle, poowah for paternal aunt, mosie for maternal aunt, Kahi for a big pot, aji for paternal grandma and aja for paternal grandpa, Nani for maternal grandma, and nana for maternal grandpa, channa for chickpeas and dahl for spilt peas, aloo for potato, dabbla for a wooden spoon. We indo Caribbean kept how culture alive for over 180 years although we don't speak hindi or our forefathers tongue we still have our strong Indian culture. Many Indians don't know that there are Indians in the Caribbean or in the South pacific or in Africa or how they were brought there hope educated you. Today Indians make 38% of the population indian the Caribbean, the Caribbean is diverse area with 7 cultures which are African, amer Indian aka Carib and awack tribe which are the native ppl of the Caribbean, dougla which is a person that mix with Indian and African, Indians, Chinese, Syrians, Indonesian, European. The Caribbean is diverse area with a lot of different cuisine and cultural influences.
