      Thank you George!
      I did not grow up in this area but moved here around 30 years ago and I feel so lucky to have all this so close to me now. 🙂

      You took the words right out of my mouth! The Thames Estuary is ok, but to be in Portugal now, gazing at all that beauty... What would I give?
      Just discovered this channel and the sunshine and the sailing does my heart good. Brilliant

    Just found your TH-cam channel, it is excellent! I love the traditional rigs, the wonderful paint schemes, and the comradeship. I will pass the channel along to my sailing buddies. The traditional rigs are unknown in are area, I have a spirit rigged cat ketch boat and I am the “trendsetter “ in our area. Can you continue to show more details of the rigs?

      Hi Jay! Thank you!
      I do intend to show more of the traditional boats and rigs but atm they are all grounded for the winter.
      Next season will start probably around mid March. For now there are a few videos on my channel explaining Lateen and Lug sail rigging. And some others just pure fun! 😁

    Beautiful boats, looking at the colours you would think they are in the Mediterranean , but i think you are near Lisbon. Maybe it is Iberian ?

    • @TheBoatRambler
      @TheBoatRambler  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      In the old days the colors used to be typical from each port or town.
      There are still a few who keep the flowers and other small paintings on the boat with a color scheme more typical of their town...

    Que belas embarcações. É possível conseguir os planos de construção do GAVIÃO DOS MARES ou da PRICESA?

      @TheBoatRambler  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Ora viva!
      A princesa do Tejo tem mais de 100 anos, não existem planos! Quanto ao Gavião dos Mares, embora mais recente, não tenho conhecimento que os planos estejam disponiveis. No entanto essa embarcação faz parte de uma empresa maritimo turistica. Pode tentar entrar em contacto com "Tejo conVida".

    What are you thinking in terms of your next build?....love the process.

    • @TheBoatRambler
      @TheBoatRambler  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hi Fred.
      I'm not sure yet what I'm building next, I could use just a small canoe to paddle some times, or some boat I can really push it till it flips, something like a Gooze, and I still have a few mods I want to make on the GIS too.
      For now, summer is almost over so I want to sail as much as possible! 😉

    Hello where is this place please ?
    I followed the facebook and internet link but the map did not work.
    When do you hold the regatta ?

    • @TheBoatRambler
      @TheBoatRambler  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Hi Charles!
      The Regatta was held in the Tagus river, finishing by Oeiras marina (Lisbon). It's organized every year by Ancoras- Classics Association . It does not have a fixed date that I know of and the last three years was between July and October. Hope this helps. 😉

      @@TheBoatRambler thankyou sir if I can find a website then I can be onthe email distribution and attend the next regatta.
      I needed to re rig my boat here in the philipines but material is of limited strength.
      Then I found your channel and Ihad the idea to make a lateen rig for my 32 ft sailing canoe.
      Everything is ready now except to have the sail sewn.
      I will share the results here

      @@TheBoatRambler thanx I will.
      I watched all your videos of the lateen boats in Lisbon.
      And also many other videos.
      I spent weeks thinking about the new rig.
      I experimented with standing lug dipping lug balanced lug and crab claw but I knew it wasnt what I wanted then I found your videos and thought yes this is suitable for what I have to hand here.
      An interesting journey and brought me closer to the reasoning why the lateen rig is possibly the most widely used working sail in the world.
      Well I should have a video in a week or two.
