Great video! Most informative source about the new Saltiga BJ reels I found. Hi! I am Looking to purchase the new Saltiga BJ! Trying to get info on the different models, but so far no luck. Last year I purchased the Saltiga 15 H in a lefty. I wanted a lower gear ratio, as I use it for Tog fishing in Nj, but the 6.3 is Ok, as that was my only choice in lefty. I am trying to compare the size of the 100HL and 200HL to my 15H. I dont want a 7.3…too high a gear ratio! Also saw a “RM” after the BJ. and liked the lower 4.9 gear ratio! I contacted a vendor in Japan that told me the 200 HL, the larger of the models is smaller then my Saltiga 15. In your video, unless you have small hands, which I doubt, the Saltiga BJ looks the same size if not larger! Again, most important is the size comparison to the 15H I have. Would love to see side by side picture comparisons! I am also considering the Ryoga, but it is not available. As you stated the Saltiga is a better price point. Any help would be appreciated! Capt Daves Sportfishing Charters that thing looks like an autobot from transformers haha. Im a big daiwa guy. I use my ryogas for inshore bass, yellowtail and bonito. I love the looks of the ryoga and saltigas. The design is phenomenal. So with nay higging reels i can cast irons like colt snipers, lacurus, etc etc etc.
oh......those Jigging master reels CAST! I have yet to catch a fish that has stressed my two. same price as a new Saltiga and heavier duty. killer anodising. wish I had a use for a few more...the tackle junkie in me loves that these on ebay are seriously discounted. the new 2017 versions are $650!!!!
YEAH, and in the USA we pretty much don't care, it's pound test rating that matters. Throw back from old mono days. knowing the diameter doesnt really help me much. THANKS FOR THE CLARIFICATION. at least we know now. Thanks for watching.
TO make matters worse Fins came out with their No B.S. line rating. So the consumer is made aware of the actual break strength and knotted strength....But they lie about the diameter. The measure the diameter with a paint thickness gauge (at least that's what the owner of fins told me when i contacted them) Their stated diameter on 5lb braid was .004. If I took my calipers and tried getting below .006 i'd cut the line with the jaws. It's a .009 diamter. SO YEAHHH.....we still can't get it friggin right.
With all your daiwa toys you should reach to a daiwa rep and ask for a vip form. I do for tons of companies. Grab some of the J braid x8 for cheap. ANd it is surprisingly good stuff...Good enough that I'm starting to trust it enough for tuna.

you will probably appreciate the way the drag ramps up from almost freespool to hooset/ fight in just two pushes of the drag star. Kinda like a lever drag in a way.

saltiga bj is for off-shore jigging(vertical fishing) and ryoga is originally for bass fishing,designed to cast. saltiga is the flagship model of daiwa and its the most tough model of all daiwa reels!
Capt Daves Sportfishing Charters I found out the hard way that it's plastic. As I was servicing my reel the thumb bar feel on the floor and the left upper tip broke. Glad I was able to order a new one from JDM. You can say the Ryoga is the father to the Catalina, Basara, Kyohga & Saltiga BJ as they share similar internals to the Ryoga. I have both the Catalina & Basra. Victor
its not a casting reel. It's a slow jigging reel, saltwater and would rip a bass' face off...look at a regular Ryoga and a small one. This is out of the freshwater league
there's numerous. check their ebay ratings. I have NEVER had a problem and I have 11 Ryoga's. ibuyJP is really good and omotenashi-japan47, onlinefishingtackle, arigoto-japan......I have no favorites.
Too bad they made that Saltiga with 1/4 less drag than the Rioga...just sayin... for the money you pay it should have an equal drag...the graduated drag is nice but just saying
I had an anti reverse bearing replaced on one last year. The other 6, all used in a guide service for years and purchased before year 2000, have never been touched. Pretty good durability.
actually like the plain ole RYOGA better myself after using both. There's a few things like the latching side plate I'm not a super fan of, compared to the Ryoga.
Yep years later and I still do not own a penn, Shimano Daiwa and jigging master and for my Charter customers I throw in a few fin nor spinners and I aint a spinner guy either.

It's my bastard reel in the collection. I have 10 other Daiwa Ryoga I use for light tackle saltwater fishing, so it only gets used once in awhile.....NO it's not a Ryoga killer. Has less bearings I believe, than my 20-25's.

What a shame to put something that beautiful on an ugly stik. It just doesn't compute. The reel only has 15 pounds of drag why in the world do you need a rod that stout? If you are going to go the ugly stick route why not use the tiger lite or the custom black/red/gold Shakespeare's? The closest I'll ever get to these reels is watching your videos.

That saltiga is nice. Gonna pick one up. 17lbs of drag is enough for them big yellows. 1kg is 2.205lbs. Just for who ever wants to do a conversion.

The Saltiga is the female version of the manly Ryoga it's just so darn pretty..Thats why I love my Tranx 500 they made it and broke the mold.

probably not many 1/4 oz. it's a "jigging reel" at least the one I have is. I said it was a bay jigging reel.
Nice video captain. From the video, looks like the Saltiga has syncronized level wind where the Ryoga doesnt. Is that correct?

OF COURSE THEY CAN! just larger handle and usually a sync'd level wind and no mag. I cast the shit out mine.

Pe actually stands for thickness. 1=0.165 mm 2=0.235 mm 2.5= 0.260. just google pe line rating and you should get a chart just for future reference

That's funny.... haven't seen that line. Been using the "cheapo" KastKing a lot. So many reels to spool, and my wallet needed a break.

PE1 =22LBS, PE2=36LBS, PE2.5=44LBS. The thumb bar on the Ryoga and Saltiga is Plastic. Not metal.
I did the teeth test. Seems like metal to me. Shimano's are all plastic.

Not really that fast, they came out in '96 and were discontinued in '06. It really has been that long!

What a shame to put something that beautiful on an ugly stik. It just doesn't compute. The reel only has 15 pounds of drag why in the world do you need a rod that stout? If you are going to go the ugly stick route why not use the tiger lite or the custom black/red/gold Shakespeare's? The closest I'll ever get to these reels is watching your videos.
