I worked a case once where a woman was fired from Sonic. She brought her 17 year old brother back with her to confront the manager.
Unknown to them, the manager was an MMA fighter on the side. Dude swings at the manager, who knocks him out cold and breaks his jaw with one punch.
The girl was arrested and the boy was given a family court date while his jaw was being wired shut.
The boy’s lawyer called a week later and i recorded the call on speaker phone with a body camera. He asked if we were going to arrest the suspect.
I said “we did, your client and his sister”
He said “no, the sonic manager.”
I said “We don’t arrest people for defending themselves against trespassers that attack them.”
I put the body camera recording in the case file with the rest of the video.
The lawyer filed a civil suit against Sonic… when the video was played by the defense in court, it torpedoed the case. Score one for people defending themselves.

10000% of the time….it is always the customer’s fault…always…
I’ll say 80% of the time I’m taking the employees side, I’ve seen some employees be extremely rude to customers simply because the customer had a complaint or the order was wrong, but I do agree that the vast majority of the time it’s the customer who pushes causes the problem to become physical
