ShadowHeart is a really cool character. When people starting to see the "real" situation I think they'll agree. She is a good person under the influence of an Evil goddess, the mistress of darkness and loss... whose preach lieing and deceive to know others intentions without revealing theirs.
Except it's really not good character writing. It's just edgy shit for the sake of being edgy... Like literally all the fucking cast.
Compare that fucking clown to Durance and you'll understand how to write an actual doom-driven cleric. And I'm being gentle here, I could easily argue that all the fucking characters are as equally edgy and cringy ; just because of the fucking density of tiefling and other exotic races, even amongst NPC. The funniest part about it is that this game is advertised as a "true" game of DnD : I would never stay in a gaming table with such a party and a player would have to present some serious argument for me to accept such character concepts as a GM.

The immersion for me come to each person be truly to him/her self and that sometimes mean been evil, bore, edgy or even turning against the party. In the universe I am just one person that happen to be in a group with the others which could or could not have the same moral/posture than I do. That is me, That is my companions; I have to live with that. So either I accept the way they are, or be with them while our goal is mutual or leave the party. Out of topic. I think we do not have the same definition of edgy. Edgy is by definition on the very border of unacceptable by its provocative nature. Here, it refer to both the character (Shadowheart, seriously ?), the agglomeration of bad trope she is and the way she is acting. There is no variance in her behavior, she's utterly two dimensionals. You also have the issue that she's entirely focused on her own (and the main) storyline rather than offering an insight into the world. To stay on POE, a good example of that is Sagani : A background never too fancy, with a fantastic, simple story behind it and a simple quest centered around the core value of the characters, which we pratically discovers from the get go. Having a complex background is often at odd with that philosophy, and is often the main culprit behind unnecessary edginess. You can actually use the Knockout attack to knock her unconscious which triggers the subsequent dialogue as well afaik, which would be thematically on point for a monk anyway.

Its a cantrip spell you can get as a Cleric if I'm not mistaken. Not too sure if Scrolls for the spell exists Once you do, cast speak with dead again and she will talk to you. I just tried it with Minthara and I got some Dialogue out of her. When she wasn't willing to speak earlier.

For example, you could play a pink githyanki (im sure that isnt cannon) or do like I did and play a fiend-eyed human warlock. I understand that playing non-human races can feel alien and uncomfortable, but having that bit of uniqueness (in whatever measure you like) can go a long way towards the your enjoyment of the game via your head cannon about your character's background. To this day I catch flak from my friends about always playing humans (or at least half-humans) in our pen and paper games, but taking the time to appreciate racial differences in psychology and magical ability has definitely enriched my roleplay experience; especially when it comes to considering the effects of mixing humanity with races of different divine origin (such as orcs or elves) or the sorcerer class which largely assumes your genetic makeup has been altered and attuned to magic by outside forces (dragons, fiends, abberations, wild magic, ect.)
The dev's only included the evil/neutral companions in EA. They wanted us to try out some darker paths than we would normally play as that's what they needed feedback on the most.
Astarion isn’t dark or mysterious. Most of his character depth, judging from the leaked campaign, comes from his struggle with his past and his vampire lord

The companions out right now will be the only origins characters, but they already confirmed there will at least be 8 due to datamines, but one would think we would see a companion of each class (many more classes and races are still yet to be released.) This definitely isn't the only companions, and Larian has already confirmed each writer made a companion, except for one, who made 2.
I didn't find Gale or Wyll before I dealt with the goblins on my first playthrough and they appeared in my camp during the party, talking to my guy as if they knew eachother. And I had the option to propose sexy times with them both which I thought was weird. Maybe they would have declined but I didn't try since I don't roleplay as a gay.

I think they need to tone down her attitude some, because if this is the best way to recruit her (as it seems to be because she's a lot less sassy if you do it this way) then something's wrong. I'm *sure* her character is great in the end, or at least her story is interesting but she's so bitchy, I just cant bring myself to care. At least Astarion is polite when he makes small talk in camp in the beginning and jokes around with you about how he's going to kill you if you turn into a mind flayer. His defensiveness makes sense. He's trying to protect himself. His story is a good one and very heavy, but at least he opens up to you. Lazel's attitude makes sense too. She's a fighter, she doesn't have time to or care to fuck around- all business. Shadowheart on the other hand is defensive and bitchy from sentence #1 and it is seemingly for absolutely no reason unless you pry and keep prying. I just cannot be bothered with her. I killed her. If she wants me to give a fuck about her, she hasn't given me a reason to. Everyone in the party seemed fine with it. Taught Gale a healing spell but honestly haven't needed it. I think I'm better off without her dragging down my party.

I think they need to tone down her attitude some, because if this is the best way to recruit her (as it seems to be because she's a lot less sassy if you do it this way) then something's wrong. I'm *sure* her character is great in the end, or at least her story is interesting but she's so bitchy, I just cant bring myself to care. At least Astarion is polite when he makes small talk in camp in the beginning and jokes around with you about how he's going to kill you if you turn into a mind flayer. His defensiveness makes sense. He's trying to protect himself. His story is a good one and very heavy, but at least he opens up to you. Lazel's attitude makes sense too. She's a fighter, she doesn't have time to or care to fuck around- all business. Shadowheart on the other hand is defensive and bitchy from sentence #1 and it is seemingly for absolutely no reason unless you pry and keep prying. I just cannot be bothered with her. I killed her. If she wants me to give a fuck about her, she hasn't given me a reason to. Everyone in the party seemed fine with it. Taught Gale a healing spell but honestly haven't needed it. I think I'm better off without her dragging down my party.
I mean, she is fucking crazy... @_@
