I sent items for a year and then I was told they had never heard of me. When we showed them proof World Vision simply said oh yes, we see. ??? Oh yes they see what? That they were caught lying? Our family never donated again & pulled all our sponsorships.
I sponsored 3 children for about 20 years but stopped the sponsorship 2 years ago after learning that World Vision is not transparent in term of sponsoring individual child or the community.
I was a World Vision sponsor for many years. I knew that the support went to the community through projects designed to benefit the community as a whole. This was made clear from the start by World Vision.
But they never actually explain how the money is distributed, or what these projects are, or give you a name in that " community ". They are lying to you. Follow the money, don't listen to the stories that contain vague and unsubstantiated claims.
@@alanmacificationI gave willingly and God uses our donations for His higher purposes. The data behind any charity can be found online. I supported and am happy to have done so.
A few years ago I was sponsoring four African girls, and later discovered after I asked for getting in touch with one of the girls, that she was no longer a part of the program. When I asked World Vision to explain to me when this had happened, and why wasn't I informed, they told me that they don't inform sponsors of this information, but normally replace a child who left the program with another who needed to be sponsored. I then asked them what happened to the girl I was sponsoring (by that time I had sponsored her for over 3 years), they told me they do not provide that information either, and that the only information that they could provide was that she was no longer in the program. I was pretty shocked by this, because unless I had asked to get in touch with the child, I was not going to know this. After about 2 more years of sponsoring children, and experiencing some more disturbing incidents, I discontinued sponsoring any kids, because I came to the conclusion that my money wasn't and never went to the kids I sponsored. I concluded that World Vision is a huge, legal scam!
The group says it's up to the individuals to "read the fine print"; I'd say, the picture of the boy is worth a 1000 words, and they are being deliberately misleading!!
According the the CRA website, World Vision made 440,831,773.00 in revenues in 2021. They have been in operation since 1957. There is no information on their website (that I can see, please correct me if I am wrong) about how they have mesurably reduced poverty in their target communities.
If you go just north of the 401 on Dixie. There is World Vision head quarters on World ave. Look at the building and the cars in the parking lot if you want to see where your money is going.
I sponsored a child in the Philippines, the money goes to the boy & his family. The charity I reached out is a catholic charity The name is CHALICE. Please convey this to the couple they will know where their donation goes = straight to the sponsored child. My daughter sponsored a girl in Ukraine, money goes to her & her family. World Vision has CEO to pay for his salary, CHALICE doesn't have CEO to pay a salary.
This has been known for decades. Charities vary in the amount of administrative costs. There's just no regulation of charities. Religious charities often do the best job since many of the administration are volunteers. Scam artists will often take advantage and may raise funds for "education" and other purposes.
WorldVision has never said they sponsor the children directly. They even make a point of saying DO NOT send money directly to your sponsored child. They make it clear that for equality's sake they manage the whole village so everybody is taken care of equally. A child is selected for you to "sponsor" who is one of the residents in that village so there is someone to relate to. Once the village has the skills to manage on their own then they move on to other locations to help. If these folks were familiar with the terms of the agreement they would not be so confused.
Then world vision should use a pic of the community or a pic of a bunch of kids from the community or a pic of kids going to school if the funds are building a school or drinking from a clean well if the funds are building a new well etc . Make it very clear the funds are helping an entire community and how instead of putting it in the fine print and sending misleading pics of 1 child and implying people are sponsoring a specific child .
@@shari9721 Then you can tell them that because I support them and I don't feel mislead. But then again, I actually read their terms and also I'm not a cheapskate like some other commenters here who don't support anybody but their own desires.

In what way did the funds go to the community? What projects did they sponsor. What exactly dollar for dollar dud they go? But regardless of where they went they did not go to that boy. In one outfit the kids only got 10 cents out of every dollar. It was a big organization that was around in the 60s. Way back then I had a friend who went yo school and worked part time but every month her and her boyfriend contributed to it. What a scam
We have been a World Vision sponsor for many years and visited our sponsored child 10 years ago. We were never under the impression that money went directly to the child. The money goes to the community in the form of water wells, solar panels for a bit of electricity, proper grain storage, hygiene training, proper toilet facilities at schools etc, etc. During our visit we met the World Vision team, we toured their humble, well organized clean office and accommodation . We spent several hours asking them questions and getting an understanding of how they choose a community and their strategy for helping. We spent hours with our sponsored family and about 20 others of all ages from the community asking them all questions about the type of help they were receiving. The details are many but The bottom line is we were totally satisfied with the effort being taken and the improvements to all the sponsored families lives in that community. We continue to sponsor with World Vision and PLAN.
Why post this comment when it's completely irrelevant. You had a different understanding? Fine. World vision promotes its brand of charity as a direct line to beneficiaries but apparently does not operate that way. Why lie about it? If the work they are doing is helping communities, then why mislead donors or hide things in fine print? Would you argue that the 'We' charity deserves to still be in operation because they accomplished some good as well. Let's call a spade a spade, this is dishonest and probably diverting money away from from the individuals whose pictures and life stories are directly responsible for soliciting those funds. This is immoral.
