Huan, thanks for posting your video. I have the MD2003 on my sailboat, and did occasionally get an overheat alarm. The elbow is a good starting point, but I'd recommend you flush your seawater side with Barnacle Buster. It's very easy to do, you don't have to take anything apart, and will really clean out your heat exchanger which is the heart of your fresh/seawater cooling system. Also, you might want to go back and put some anti seize on those bolts ads and washers. You've got a mix of aluminum, cast iron, and stainless metals. You will get galvanic corrosion, and if you (or the next guy!) snaps off one of those bolts in the block, getting it out in that confined space will be a real problem! Yes, you are right. I also used Barnacle buster and it clean out all the build up of marine growth. I actually now use the Barnacle buster to flush out the raw water system once a year.
On the exhaust elbow there is four oval holes. They are matched with the same holes on the engine block. Why didn't you unclog those holes on the engine block ?
There are no corresponding holes on the engine; the holes (except for the large exhaust gas one) on the elbow riser go nowhere, and must be to cool more of the elbow surface area.
I think you are correct voiller. The whole point of those holes is to have water flowing through . The other side feed the op thinks is the water feed is excess water from the oil cooler . This is only my opinion. But the water flow in the last few seconds is not what I’d be happy with .

Hi - I replaced one of these last summer also. My new elbow was cast 316 stainless steel (not aluminum)....I think yours is the same.
