    This afternoon, as I pulled out of my parking space on the 4th floor of a parking garage in downtown Chicago, I realized that my back tire was flat. It was no surprise as I was not having the best Monday to begin with and I was immediately frustrated. I knew I had a spare in my trunk but I also knew that I had no idea how to use it. After a few tears, along with some unsuccessful phone calls for help, I decided to "google it." I watched your video as every asshole passerby was inconvenienced by my car in the way as they zoomed out of the garage after work. I ended up changing the tire all by myself and I got home safely! I cannot thank you enough for posting this video! Also, my very impressed older brother is still laughing at the fact that I figured out how to change my tire on TH-cam!! Thanks again, Jenine

    my best friend and I had a tire blow out during lunch time. we pulled up your video and had the tire changed in less than 30 minutes! we had enough time to pick up a quick bite and make it back to work within our one hour lunch break! we felt so accomplished haha. Thanks for your help, we literally couldn't have done it with you :)

    Tip: use a steel pipe (2-3ft) on the end of the wrench for more leverage. Getting the lugnuts off is the hardest part, which is probably why they loosened them beforehand in the video. **and loosen before lifting the car up**

    Obviously preloosened the nuts. They came off way too easy. Also loosen before jacking so car weight stops wheel spinning.

    You may want to remake this video.
    Before you jack it up and the tire comes off the ground you need to start to undo the lug nuts because
    Otherwise your rocking the car while it's up on the jack and unlike this video the lugs will not be finger tight.

    don't want to ruin your day but this video is on a new car and using the factory spare which is probably half the weight. I own an 06 passat and I destroyed three lug bolts when trying to change a tire. thank god I was home. the lug bolts protrude at least a quarter inch thru the rotor so they all rusted on the ends, so when I tried to remove the lug bolts they wouldn't budge. I had to use a breaker bar and a cheater and ended up chewing up three of the lug bolts. I had to use a thread cleaner straightener also called a tap, to clean up each bolt hole before I then lubed each new lug bolt before replacing. also that round part that protrudes where he placed the tire on is to short and rounded over so a tire will not stay on its own without holding. try holding the tire into place while your squatted down so you can peek into the deep hole on your rim so you can align the lug bolt holes then dont let go once you have found the hole while reaching for a lug bolt then starting it in the thread, also be careful that you don,t cross thread the lug bolt. Someone told me that you can get an alignment tool that threads into one of your lug bolt holes and it is a few inches long so you can slip your spare onto the alignment tool just like you would a lug nut. If this is true why isn't Volkswagen including this into there tire changing kits instead of leaving us owners stranded on the side of the road cussing at them for putting lug bolts instead of lug nuts, and making a fairly easy job of changing a tire into an impossible job for most owners , especially on the side of the road.

    I would highly recommend checking to see if you can get the locking wheel nuts off using the key RIGHT NOW. Not when you actually have a flat. Reason is they are often waaaayyyy over torqued and impossible to get off with they key as the key keeps skidding off. Personally, I have replaced ALL the wheel bolts with after market ones all correctly torqued and ditched those silly covers and lock nuts!

    • @greense65
      @greense65 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      As other commenters have suggested, they seem to have loosened the nuts before videoing.
      For safety’s sake, you should loosen a bit before raising the car on the jack, so you don’t have to use too much force on the nuts while the car is raised up on that goofy looking jack.
      Also, hold off on that last bit of tightening until the tire is back on the ground.

    The nut with the key, will not come off as easily as it is shown in this video. Actually the design is so bad that you will need an electric impact driver to remove it if at all! In addition that extension to the net remover is bad. It does not fit tight over the wheel lock in order for one to remove it. I must say I am very disappointed with this. German design is supposed to be good, but this is really poor.

      thats because they are bolts and not lugs and they protrude far enough thru the rotor that they rust on the ends of the lug bolts. I had one of my wheels where they were so rusted that it chewed the ends of the threads upon removal, and they were so tight from the ends being rusted that I had to use a breaker bar and cheater to get the bolts off that tire. I had to get a thread straightener to clean up the threads of each lug and then I had to put all new bolts on. Thank God I found this out at home and not on the side of the road. after that experience I went around to each wheel and jacked it up and removed each tire and sprayed a rust blaster on the end of each bolt from behind the rotor then removed each bolt cleaned the bolts with a wire brush then lubed and replaced. horrible design. Should never have put lug bolts instead of lug nuts on any car, and I wont get into having to put a tire on, what a pain to try and hold into place while trying to line up the holes, is crazy and a horrible pain on my poor back. this video makes it look easy because he is using a balloon tire that is half the weight and you can see the center. a full size tire is probably twice the weight and you cannot see the center and because it is so heave it will not stay in place so you can line up the holes which you cannot see to begin with. the cars with these types of rotors should be recalled and replaced with lug type rotors.

    VW, and so many others, make the print in their manuals too small. Not real convenient when you have a flat tire by the side of an interstate on a windy day. At least it is not raining.
