People often say that about the weather. If you set out on an incoming high pressure system with moderating southerly winds it often puts on a few days of great weather. I tend to pick only the days with this pattern so often get these conditions. No always mind you! Cheers Mark
I liked your idea of visiting wrecks but haven't had time to do it until recently, been busy with the house we bought in Metung to retire to in 5 years. I came across the Henry Meakin completely by accident on google earth and then looked it up for more detail. Its one of the more intact wrecks in the bay. Still trying to find out if other than these 3, the cerberus at black rock and the J7 sub at sandringham if there are any other above water wrecks around the bay. There are hundreds of sunken wrecks but few above the water.
Wont be for a while, boat is on a hard stand, keel in the shed and mast out the back. If I get myself organised I will let you know. It would be good to explore the yarra up river.
How's you research into wind steering vane going? There's a chap in the World UK with videos on the Hebridean under Tammie Norrie...not too sure of the spelling
Still tinkering. The hebridean system would be nice but too bulky and difficult to pack for trailering. The small auxiliary rudder I have attached to the back of the rudder box works but still needs playing around with the size of the blade to get reliable control and an easy way of lifting it when not in use. The control lever on the tiller handle works well. Unfortunately its a job I do when I have time and at the moment my keel is out of the boat as is the mast both of which I am renovating in the next 4-6 weeks before I can go sailing again. Been busy with the house I have bought in Metung to retire to in 5 years over the last few months as well. Reason for less videos. Will be doing a video on the lift system I have made for the boat along with the keel renovation process in the next month or so.
Cabin on a couple of acres but best of all frontage to Box's Creek with a jetty berth and a private road from the house to the edge of the jetty! Have to rent it out for 5 years but I am looking forward to retirement!
Thanks Tony. I haven't had a lot of sailing days lately. This trip the winds didn't get over 15 knots so not so much of a test. I have been out in 25-30 knots once since adding the ballast and feel the liveliness of the boat to be less and even though she still heels quickly to 15 degrees, she seems much more stable after that. In those winds in the past she would be sitting at 25 degrees most of the time and up to 30+ in gusts. Now she stabilizes around 15 to 20 degrees and up to 25 in gusts but with a more settled motion. So yes I think it was worth doing. On the theoretical side the static righting moment has been increased by around 20% so if a knock down occurs or worse she should right herself with greater reliability.
StHelens boat ramp in Geelong. Great ramp, lots of room and only $5. Coast Guard office on site and car park feels more secure than most with local houses overlooking the parking. I used to use Warmies at Williamstown but it became too expensive and a hassle to get to through city traffic. It was also isolated from houses and more of a worry about damage to the car and trailer. For me St Helens is 15mins further to drive but better in every way.

I did not know about the first wreck Henry Meakin, I think that was around the where they used to break up ahips.

It was a while ago but for memory it was early May with a nice big strong high moving over Vic.
