Romário’s career began in 1985 and ended in 2009. He played in several teams, including Barcelona, from 1993 - 1995, where he spent one of the best moments of his career. There, he was rewarded as FIFA World Player of the Year in 1994. He is considered the best player in the Brazilian national team, in 1994, when they won the World Cup!

He did train. The point is that he refused to train what didnt make sense for him. He still says it made no sense for him to run 10km everyday, because his job was to be explosive in the last third of the field and outrun defenders. And he was right, training has evolved to focus on optimizing each player’s performance for the job they have to do.

CR7, Messi and Neymar are the only ones, and in the times of Ronaldo and Romario you had guys like Zidane, Bergkamp, Pirlo, Iniesta, Rivaldo, and the list could go on for ever. And even to say defense is better now is a very thin line to cross. You won't find defenders like Nesta, Puyol or Maldini.

What the guys in this video don't know is that romario was able to be positioned at the limit of the offside line. In most goals he seemed offside. It didn't matter the defender's quality, it was hard to stop him. By the way: very very Nice video

Romaria was the kind of player that ALWAYS knew where the goal was and where the goalkeeper was, without even look at them. He also never made eyes contact to where he as going to shoot. His body language and eyes moves never shown his next move, that made very dificult for the goalkeeper to defend him.

Romario was very smart to get rid of the defenders. He often brought the ball to his left foot because the defender knew he didn't kick with his left foot, bust he ended up finalizing with his right foot anymay.
He was the right-footed player most left-footed ever.

E no futebol agente sabe somente gol ganha jogo, então podemos dizer nisso o Romário foi o maior de todos! Simplesmente um gênio!

Romario played 1985 to about 2006
He was world player of the year in 1994 when he won the World Cup.
He could have gone to 1998 and 2002 World Cup. But was dropped just before 1998 world up because of injury.
In the build up to the World Cup he played with R9 as the best front two in the history of football. They won 6-0 against Australia in the confederations cup final, each scoring 3.
They never lost a game starting together.
If he had been taken to the Brazil World Cup his injury would have been fine by the final and they would have won.
He was snubbed in 2002 as he was quite divisive for the dressing room.
He was playing in the Brazilian league after he left baracelon as he likes to live in Brazil (as all Brazilians do). He was top scorer of the Brazilian league at about age 40. He is in the top 5 strikers of all time for sure. It’s not the defences being worse back then. You don’t see goals like these now because he was a once in history genius. These goals are his genius. He would do the same today. He would probably score more goals today. He scored 1000 goals btw. (Or about 800 under a different count)

Romario in 1998 wasn’t dropped because of injury. He was dropped because the coach and mainly Zico didn’t wanted him. The mild injury was the reason they wanted to drop him.
1 day after he was dropped from Brazil team he was playing for Flamengo in Brazil, and scored a goal.

Romario had an unspoken "rule": He shouldn't touch the ball more than 3 times before the finishing shot. He is one of the greatest to ever play the game. Also, his personality in and out of the pitch created great stories that are worth knowing about (I love the one when he asked manager Johan Cruyff for two days’ leave so that he could attend the Rio Carnival. Never one to forgo the opportunity to challenge his players, “If you score two goals tomorrow, I’ll give you two extra days’ rest compared to the other players,” was Cruyff’s reply.
The next day, against mortal enemies Real Madrid Romario scored his second goal 20 minutes into the game and immediately gestured Cruyff asking to leave the pitch and saying: ‘Coach, my plane leaves in an hour’. (He actually didn't leave the pitch and ended up scoring a hat-trick in a 5-0 win).

It's unfortunate he only got to play 1 year with Michael Laudrup ('93-'94 season).
With Laudrup creating chances and his great passing, Romario scored 30 goals in 33 La Liga matches that year.
Romario said Laudrup was the 4th best player of all time, behind Pele, Maradona, and Romario himself.
Laudrup switched to Real Madrid in the '94-'95 season, and the 5-0 score was repeated, this time in Real Madrid's favor.

In the 1994 World Cup, there in the USA, Ronaldo was a reserve (a boy gaining experience) and R. Gaucho hadn't made it to the main team yet.
We Brazilians believe that not even Pelé surpassed Romario in the art of scoring goals. The most efficient player within the penalty area.

He played with Ronaldo Fenomeno in national team only in 1997, when they conquered Copa America and Confederations Cup with one of the most incredible attacks in the history. His peak was between 1990 and 2002, more or less.
