It’s a pity the original station building was not rebuilt rather than this new construction. The station building could incorporate this new museum. The Anhalter had a significant history before the Nazis came to power and many other parts of Berlin are as associated with them and the deportations. For those interested, there’s a model railway with the Anhalter Bahnhof as it was pre war in the Deutsche Technik Museum which is based further down what would have been the train lines. This museum has trains from the period in original rail sheds. There are many other technical interests there as well from textiles to computers. Well worth a visit.
It would be something extraordinary to rebuild the original project of Anhalter Bahnhof. I wish fervently Germans could consider this possibility a reality. Cheers from Brazil and love to Berlin.
Don’t get me wrong, but I wish they would rebuild the torn down sections and attach them to the surviving section, and rebuild it as it was and then use for its new purpose.
I guess, in some way, those who were exiled were the lucky ones who did not end up in the camps - like those who did not have the means or the fame and were otherwise unable to get out. I am glad for those who did get out….Despondent still, for those who did not get out alive. Or only got out through death after having endured a horrifying, years long experience.
I don’t see the real big sense in building it there if you don’t include the ruin sorry not sorry. So sad that the design from the architect from berlin didn’t win.
