I have no biblical education but I imagine that each of us actively helps His return by applying these principles. Each of us is responsible for donating our grain of sand to the infinite beach. The metaphor for me is that we all are expected to act as earthly angels. The watchword is "actions" of lovingkindness. The more people who do this, the sooner He arrives. What you say totally makes sense, that Rabi Maimonides would say do NOT waste valuable time figuring out and worrying when He will get here; rather, instead use that time to do your part to prepare the way.
You can find beauty and happiness in uncomfortable crazy times in small things. Like looking at my wonderful so and his content positive grateful disposition. I'm son thankful for the gift of him.
The Meshiach is still just a human though, and I think maybe there is a lot placed on his shoulders, only the weight of the world, he is going to need help. And no doubt he will still have his enemies. And maybe just maybe, the Meshiach is waiting for you.
