Many thanks, never knew Science Friction came out in ''76 sounding like this.
I remember buying the 12" 3D EP. :-) Didn't know this clip existed, until now, not sure how I missed it. Fantastic!
Great post - just goes to show how ahead of their time they were.
Science Friction in this early version seems more of a Doctor's Who theme! ;) One of my favourite songs, but it got so much better later on!
A rather laconic version of the song all XTC fans know and love at the proper tempo....
This is great! Earliest XTC I've ever seen--thanks for uploading!
Super cool. Thanks for posting.
Amazing- Very ahead of their time. Andy even does a tilt of his head that reminds me of Devo...but this is pre-Devo I think.
One tilt of the head does not make Andy the progenitor of the entire Devo performance schtick.
Devo was playing out as early as 1974, although their first records didn’t come out until 1978.
Not surprising. Both groups invested heavily in the spasmo element.
Could have seen early Devo promo videos. Andy sought out the quirky.
You see a lot of Andy’s mannerisms in Les Claypools live performances.
4:08OMG look at Colin's hair.
John perkins now being my college tutor XD
I've never seen this before in my life! Thanks YT!
Ayy how handsome Andy were!!!
Come to think of it I didn't see the full video before, there was a cut-off video of this and it missed the keyboard and guitar solos and all after that. Nifty keyboard solo and extended (compared to the later single version) guitar solo.
Andy Partridge’s singing voice matured as he got older.
Early XTC was very much in the vein of Progressive and Glam rock.
cheers 4 the post
That keyboard player wasn't doing them any favors! Barry definitely added to that song. Great clip though!
Thanks Eg!
Poor Colin, we only got one small shot of him!
i prefer this one.....though i prefer the keys of our barry
oops...that's my old pal Jonny P
we all do
In development
That guitar Andy was playing here (A Guild guitar) was stolen later, I think. His black Les Paul was also stolen.
Why the hell?!
Cool.
Is it Paddy Mcaloon of Prefab Sprout????
Star trekin' across the universe...

Did Andy ever have long hair? Any pictures, early 70s maybe?
Yes he did! when he was in Helium Kidz.
I've seen a picture of Andy from 1972 or so when his hair went at least halfway down his back. The pic's probably somewhere at Chalkhills (dot) org.

Who's that surfer dude at 4:08 ?
@Gerry Berry Yeah man, I know. Thanks for telling me. I thought he looked funny with that hair.
That's Colin Moulding and he's gorgeous and still is to this day.
@@nancyg158 Thanks, I know. He's one of my all time inspirations. I was just feeling frivolous the other night.
The days when TC had very mediocre cymbals........
