You set up the Shield usually during what is called the “Power Hour” which is the hour or two before reset. Most players make the bulk of their arena runs during the last two hours before reset. And a lot of players hunt for people with many more medals than them to get wins of more than 16 points. And the more points they get the more points you lose. So by using the shield, you essentially limit the most points they get to 16 and you only lose 8.

This dynamic is terrible
