    years ago i started out at us/steel lorain works 1st job was in 4 seamless hot end so this video is accurate they run a heated billet thru piercer rolls punches a hole thru the billet then elongation and straightening, in the machine shop i bored out the piercer rolls to fit on the shafts they really big rolls about 48 inch od

    I used to work at Timken Alloy Steel Europe and the first time i was shown the piercing process i was standing on a walkway above where the piercing plug meets the billet and it took a great effort of will not to run away as every brain cell was screaming at me "no way is that going to work" :)

    ah it is interesting how stuff is made, soo raw and hot, but also done by giant machines that would make the innerchild happy, there is a company here I belive called scot that makes this kind of tubing as well in indiana.

      Yes, in Canton, Ohio. The bearing plant is gone.

      The Timken Company is the company that makes bearings. TimkenSteel Corporation is a separate company formed in 2014. Prior to 2014 the steel business was a division of The Timken Company

    I STARTED OUT IN 4 SEAMLESS US/STEEL CORP ON THE HOT END THE HEAT THE BILLET ROTARY FURNACE TAKE IT OUT PUT THE BILLET IN THE PEIRCER ROLLS IT COMES OUT THE OTHER SIDE A STEEL LANCE WITH A HARDENED POINT HITS THE BILLET AND PUTS A HOLE IN IT AS IT ROLLS DOWN THE LENGHT OF THE LANCE PIERCER ROLLS WEIGH AROUND 5 TONS 4 FEET DIAMETER
