I'm a lot older and more educated than her- and yes, I was wearing a mask with her mother- I had to, she fell into alcoholism, and though I wanted to leave her, I put on that old mask and waded though the toxic ocean to protect her, not her mom, as much as I could- she was getting abusive, and while she may not have seen it, I was standing up for her every day for years. Nothing about our household was ever normal- her mom was the matriarch of a cult, and I'm a high-ranking Illuminati adept. We always knew why I was there- I started seeing little miss "I don't know if I can trust you" five years before she was even born, and came to find her- she never asked why she looks so different than her siblings, but it is because she's the reincarnation of my wife and was immaculately conceived- I never touched her as a kid and still haven't, but I watched over her and provided for her for sixteen years and remembered who she was the first time I laid eyes on her. Before she died, her mom actually told me to marry her if anything happened to her. Everyone that ever saw us together knew the score except her, apparently. And it's not the way it probably sounds to the angry Karen brigade- I'm a perfect gentleman with her, it's not just some "hurr durr, I bagged a younger woman, I'm such a stud" situation, I was careful to make sure she had a reliable car and at least four figures in her checking account at all times to make sure she could leave at any time if I crossed any lines that shouldn't be crossed. Honestly, I don't usually even care for younger women much, this is just a "I don't have any choice about how I feel here" situation, and the feeling was very obviously mutual.
