- #CillianMurphy opened #berlinale2024 with his new powerful film "Small Things Like This".
The story has been adapted for the big screen and is about Ireland's notorious Magdalene Laundries: the church's homes for unwed mothers who were made to work in an atmosphere that was devastating and full of shame hell on earth.....while their babies taken away and sold to foster parents.
Cillian stars in and produced the film, which is an adaptation of Claire Keegan’s novel of the same name. Matt Damon is also a producer, along with Ben Affleck
Also on hand for the press conference were producers Matt Damon and Alan Moloney, director Tim Mielants, screenwriter Enda Walsh and actors Eileen Walsh and Emily Watson.

Holy god Emily's Irish accent is superb
I've been waiting for this film to be released since I learned about it in Mar 2023. Weighty & supremely important issues are beautifully woven through Claire Keegan's novel. Can't wait to see this glorious cast bring it to life on screen! Thanks for this lovely clip & commentary.

Definitely an Irish based story and film
Yes please, more movies of substance and the true history told.
Making films about who we are defines the history of all peoples. Films, along with books, are the necessary vehicles for our understanding of the world and our evolution. It's like music, which ignites our spirit towards something very powerful, awakening in us emotions whose existence was unknown to us, but which thrill us just as much as powerful images on the big screen. Thank you for all these masterpieces, without which I wouldn't have the open mind and heart I have today for the history of peoples. Congratulations Cillian for your outstanding performance in Oppenheimer.

Yea history in ireland is pretty bad, and has awful as the laudries where, there is an awful lot worse that happened that could do with movies made about it.
What was matt damon babbling on about? He was the american in the room..iykwis…
seemed pretty understandable--his studio wanted to get the film out there so they did. All of these questions being answered are out of context but it seems you have a problem with Americans so you're saying it here? 👎
He is the American who wanted to make this film. It wasn't difficult to understand the point he was trying to make
