He is one of the true legends of our scene. Daring to challenge audiences is a lost art, and some of his work is still a masterclass in how to literally cause actual violent reactions in a wide range of human beings
I've seen SebastiAN play this track live at Hard Haunted 2010 in the Shrine Auditorium in LA. He opened with this track. My friend had told me that this track was 13 minutes long with an 11-minute buildup. SebastiAN spent most of his time during the track chain smoking cigarettes and drinking. He'd raise up his drink every few minutes to taunt us, then put it down again. The acoustics of The Shrine Auditorium made it seem like you were surrounded by this ever growing dread and doom. I've been to a good number of metal shows in my day, but this track was absolutely the most brutal thing I have *ever* heard. Bravo!
I listened this fully in the subway, while focusing only on myself and my image, while hardly breathing cause I was in tight suit, I was intentionally causing myself to have a panic attack, I endured it until the drop, after, I released the tension I was holding, and I felt free. I conquered my mind.
The frist time I heard this song I was stoned as shit with 3 other of my friends and 1 sober driver. My sober friend put this song on a drove down a long windy road. 2min in we started to realize how weird it was and asked him if we could change it he didnt say anything and started to drive faster. 5 min later one of my friends in tears another is rocking back and forth and the other is yelling at him to turn it off. We were all convinced that he was planning to kill us all then the bass dropped
This song is the prime example of a drug and being addicted to it. The music that follows after the bass drop is so perfect that skipping the whole wait for it feels criminal. The wait for what comes after the drop fills one with so much excitement and ecstasy that I just wanna go through it again and again and again
The build up is what gets you man when i heard this live in nyc for the first time around a bunch of fucked up collage kids tripping on Ex we thought we were going to die because the speekers killed our ears but we all started killing each other when the beat droped it was one of the best nights of my life
if i saw this live, and high, my thoughts would be probably be along the lines of well im going to die, no doubt about it, i am most certainly going to die
The first time I finished Inane by Sakuzyo, I was literally thinking "Uh... I didn't die after the album finished? Excuse me? What am I supposed to do now? This is awkward" and I was completely sober and listening in headphones while out for a walk
Oh god. That's one of the greatest things I've ever listened to, if not the greatest. Just sat there through the whole thing in anticipation. Thanks Mario Garcia!
Don't get me wrong, when the beat drops I really like this song, and the rest of sebastiAns work for that matter, but c'mon, you can't seriously listen to the entire beginning of this and tell me you enjoy it
demonmoocow I can. And that's okay man! I listen to the whole thing and remember how epic the club felt when this was going down. People all like "Oh my god something absolutely insane is going to happen right?! Surely?!" So yeah, I have to listen to the whole thing simply because I know what's coming - although the drop is additionally genius in how short it is after a build up that length. Hey it's just doing some crazy shit. There are no rules. Also you can't shorten Threnody - look up the history behind it. It's a reaction to the horrors of the nuclear bomb.
This is from a plane taking flight to a hard thriller feeling of something to explode as a bomb, the everything starts burning until death's arrival. Visual music.
I don't know what to think of it. I can imagine that waiting this long can give you amounts of energy on a live performance when finally the beat drops. For the onew who have heard this live: Does it work? Or is it simply annoying?
@dec20056 This song might look not so good on mp3 or on your pc, but believe me, this live is a total banger, completly destroys the crowd, is a very effective idea for a drop
tfw " Good observer-dependent art deepens the observer’s insights about this world or possible worlds, unveiling previously unknown regularities in compressible data, connecting previously disconnected patterns in an initially surprising way that makes the combination of these patterns subjectively more compressible (art as an eye-opener), and eventually becomes known and less interesting. I postulate that the active creation and attentive perception of all kinds of artwork are just by-products of our principle of interestingness and curiosity yielding reward for compressor improvements." edit: I also have a conspiracy theory that many of sebastians works contain references to arnold schoenberg's music, but im just a bit crazy
i would not care one single bit if he played this when i saw it live, track is sick, and seriously, its just like 10 minutes, makes the drop sound a lot crazier
I remember on one of my first listens I waited the whole length for the drop, and it hit me so hard my heart was pounding for the next hour. THEN I DIED.
You'll notice how it only goes on for like 1 minute after the drop. It's really best used in a set, leading into another song. It's fuckin' crazy live, more tension than you think you can handle,.then finally sweet relief - but not really relief cause it comes in pounding, only to transition to something even harder.
Theres a video of his set at Let the Children techno, plays this 1st, with all the kids getting restless, while he's on stage having his photo taken with pedro & wandering off, then after 7m he drops it and the crowd go nuts. its something he does often, in the new mixmag, its says at one of his shows he came on, layed on the floor,& chainsmoked, crowd thought it was funny, then after 10m they got bored, after 20 they got all angry after 30, fights broke out and THEN he drops it and they lose it
if you play "threnody" by SebastiAn at exactly 11:49:08 on new years eve, the drop will murder you exactly midnight. start off your new year right.
Hunter Eubanks That's a really good way to start the new year.
It's exactly 11:48:41

Its always funny as shit when he drops this live and half the dancefloor leaves. He doesn't shorten it at all.
He just straight up doesn't give a fuck, and I love it!
i must experience this
He is one of the true legends of our scene. Daring to challenge audiences is a lost art, and some of his work is still a masterclass in how to literally cause actual violent reactions in a wide range of human beings
YES it is, trolling entire festivals with this masterpiece. BTW it helps to be on a lot of drugs to make the first ten minutes go quicker.
I've experienced this. He opened a set with this track at a Halloween festival and it was so satisfyingly brutal. What a ride!

Damn I wish I was there 😭😤
Well... That escalated slowly.
worth the wait
I got to say, I wasn't expecting you to be here.
Me neither.
No way
You should give a listen to other Ed Banger guys if you like this kind of music. Justice, Mr Oizo. Also Danger, Data, Kavinsky, Gesaffelstein.
I was never expecting this guy to be here

I want to meet your friend
I read all of the TH-cam comments and I'm still waiting for the drop
This song is the definition of patience. And climax.
Someone should make a version with 9 hours of build up and then an hour of the part after the drop
+Ben Mick Hahahahaha please someone do this
He stated the original lasts 1 hour and that he played it to a crowd once.
Okay i'll do it.

That shit dropped harder than my IQ.
Don't know if that was a positive comment or not lmao

This song is amazing. It's like when watching a horror movie and you know something will happen but don't know when. Amazing Tension.
I listened to this on a very high DXM dose
I thought I was close to death and realized I had only gotten 4 minutes in
Am I the only one who enjoys every single fuckin' minute of this?
Yes.

Nope. This is gold. Witnessed this drop in Fabric (London) a few years ago IIRC, and people went BALLISTIC. As did I.

Most psychedelic song I ever heard.
Krzysztof Penderecki - "Threnody for the Victims of Hiroshima" or "Polymorphia" are really deep and intense for me.
went through the whole song without skipping forward, damn did I want to pull my hair out!

did he forget to rap on this or something??? where are the barsss

Nero had this one in his essential mix, was brilliantly used.
>A threnody is a wailing ode, song, hymn or poem of mourning composed or performed as a memorial to a dead person.
Shit and that ending!!!!!
"Threnody to the Victims of Hiroshima" (1960) for 52 strings instruments. This is more amazing than this.
its a rather pleasant noise
This reminds me a lot of the intro of Enter the Void by Gaspar Noe
Gaspar directed the video for thirst!
