An old Serbian proverb says: the battle is not won by great weapons, but by the heart of the hero. Our Milunka has proven it many times. I am very proud that the world finally got to know her story through Sabaton. 😊
From Wikipedia: She was awarded the French Légion d’Honneur (Legion of Honour) twice, as well as the Russian Cross of St. George, the British medal of the Most Distinguished Order of St Michael, and the Serbian Miloš Obilić medal. She was the sole female recipient of the French Croix de Guerre 1914-1918 with the gold palm attribute for service in World War I.
@@Captainval28soviet was communists not fascist, fascists was against communism. And they got good amount of awards for their service. If I remember correct they are the most decorated squadron to ever fly for ussr. What a wonderful tribute to this heroic lady! I think it also speaks to us men that women are more than we give them credit for! Thank you Stacey for this reaction, you always bring us the sauce, you make it real!
You are exactly right with real life Mulan. Although it was not her father as who she disguissed, but her brother. Also you are right that this is a tear-jercking story. But not because of her bravery, but of how her story really ended. That is something Sabaton does not tell us about. After this meeting we see in the video no one heard anything about Milunka Savic for a long time. Until in the begininng of the 1970s a journalist decided to find out what happend with her. As the journalist went to her house the scenary was horrific. Thge house in which Milunka Savic was living for long years was a complete ruin. It turned out that Savic lived together with her daughter in absolute poverty. But it gets even worde. As it turned out her medlas and keepsake of the war has been taken away from her. The journalist found her a place in a retirement home, were Savic lived until her death. Now watch this video from Sabaton again and let yout tears flow as mine did.
Have to say I hadn't heard of this story until this song. But reading her Wikipedia page, she moved to Belgrade (capital of Serbia) and worked as a postal worker after the war. She had a daughter and then adopted 3 other daughters. News of her heroism died down after the war until the celebration in this video and she finally gained widespread recognition for her actions. In 1972, a newspaper highlighted her crumbling house and difficult finances and she was awarded an apartment by the local government. There is a statue of her in Inđija, a town in Serbia. There's also a monument to her in Belgrade, a memorial exhibit in Jošanička Banja and the house she was born in was rebuilt and turned into an exhibition.
Not a postal worker but a cleaning lady in the post office and later a bank... She was actually sent to the Banjica concentration camp during WW2 for helping the resistance, but was let out by the Germans
I'm feeling the exact same emotions, tearing up and getting goose bumps while listening to this song. Even though I am not a woman, nor Serbian. I think want we feel is the outmost respect of a real life hero, we feel it so deep into our core that we don't even know what to do with ourselves. Because even though there are _a lot_ of songs that make me emotional, this one hits different because it is not out of sadness or love, it is admiration and awe. The story itself is amazing, but as you say, Sabatons music has a tendency to enhance the feelings you get from the story itself, and that is why I bear their symbol with me on my body. They deserve all the praise and admiration for bringing these "hidden" or untold stories of heroes from all around the world, through all times.
Wow, that is a story that I was not familiar with as well, and wow. She was quite extraordinary. Really enjoyed the song and loved your reaction and thoughts as well. It is one of those unteachable and unpredictable things, you can train someone to be a good soldier, you can build their skills that are suitable to situations, but that kind of insane heroism is entirely unpredictable, can come from anyone at any level of skill and experience, and one doesn't know they are capable of it until they are in a situation like that. Usually, once they do it once, they do it again in similar situations, but the first time is virtually always a surprise to everyone.
I think stories from wars brings emotions never felt before, raw sadness, joy, pride, fear, nostalgia and many many more and Sabaton is the closest anyone can get to all those people who fought, won or lost their lives to those tragedies all these years.
Stacey thank you for reacting to this song and story This is the information about her from Wikipedia, Milunka Savić CMG (Serbian Cyrillic: Милунка Савић; 28 June 1892 - 5 October 1973)[1] was a Serbian war heroine who fought in the Balkan Wars and in World War I. She is the most-decorated female combatant in the history of warfare.[2]
if you want to really cry to a sabaton song, give final solution a go. it's an incredibly heavy topic but sabaton tackled it very maturely. if you feel emotions heaviliy this song can absolutely wreck you. also, im glad you enjoyed this song so much, really showed
Love this band and their video to bring Light to this War Hero who is a Woman. Love that you have made this band one of my favorites. Your reaction give Honor to this Hero.
She received her second Karađorđe Star (with Swords) after the Battle of the Crna Bend in 1916 when she captured 23 Bulgarian soldiers single-handedly wtf she was a real fucking bad ass
Hi there! I’m new to your channel, and I’ve been loving your reactions. It’s clear that you take music seriously and really dive into what the artist is trying to say and how they use their music and lyrics to convey themes and messages. As a musician myself-one who was on the verge of making it-I find it impressive to see someone appreciate the talent and hard work that goes into creating music. It’s so refreshing to find someone who looks at it the way you do! That said, I’d love to recommend a band for you to check out: Band-Maid. They’re an all-girl Japanese rock band that blends so many genres it’s hard to pin them down. Their compositions are incredibly detailed and thoughtful, and I really think you’d enjoy what they bring to the table. Keep up the amazing work! 😉
Sabaton gives me the same vibe as Iron Maiden did inspiring me to learn more about what they were singing about. Stacey thanks for introducing me to them. I've been watching reaction videos for a few years. I mainly watch songs I know already. But you made me check out music I haven't listened to before. I love the way you honestly react to the music/band and not just to the obvious emotional songs. Unlike others who might listen to a group they like and then not release another by them for months. You go down "Rabbit Holes" and become a true fan of bands like Pink Flyod and The Who among others. Keep up the great work Stacey 😊
First of all, i love your Chanel , i am from Germany , so Serbia is not so far away but before Sabaton i never heard about this Woman . I am thankful too ,for what Sabaton is doing. And for you , please do the same what you do before because i like it. Greetings from Germany.
Bonjour Stacey 🥰😘 !!! This song is cool with the added visuals, I haven't understood all the lyrics yet, I'm going to reread it all calmly, Thank you! you are perfect as always!!! ❤️❤️❤️
There are many more great songs like "inmate 4859" , "white death", "uprising" and "40:1" But Sabaton History is the background to all their songs like this one Lady of The Dark - Milunka Savić - Sabaton History 117 [Official] th-cam.com/video/jW2gcOIhxhU/w-d-xo.html
Even if Milunka going up to a small ridge to raise the Serbian flag is apocryphal (I legitimately don't know), it speaks to her bravery. For centuries in European warfare, the standard bearer of the opposing army was one of the most visible members and therefore an easy target. The Lady of the Dark shows uncommon courage just in the fact that when the flag/standard is given, she doesn't even hesitate, and charges the enemy.
I think that they have a more detailed video about her on Sabaton History. She was for real, and incredibly brave. When you learn the details of the military honors she received, you will be even more impressed. What she really did was mind blowing.
There is apparently a movie made about her but i cant remember the name of it and while she was fighting on the frontline she were apparently known for always giving enemy soldiers the option to surrender when possable instead of shooting on sight. Hense the lines "A soldier with no will to kill and with a philanthropic heart" Dont know if this next story is actually true but during WW2 she was apparently captured and taken to 1 of the camps where a Nazi officer recognized her and ordered her immediate release.
Yes...yes, she did. She was the only woman in the First World War to win the French Croix de Guerre, which is comparable to the US Medal of Honor, and was also KNIGHTED twice by France.
There is another sabaton video on the song last battle which I think is underrated, it about when American and German soldiers together against ss troops in may 1945. If you think the running into enemy trenches is crazy and want to listen to more Sabaton song with roughly that topic I can recommend the following songs: Stormtroopers About the soldiers equipped and trained to rush across no-man's land into enemy trenches in order to take them over late in World War 1. 82nd all the way About sergeant Alvin York and his actions during the Meuse-Argonne offensive. A Ghost in the Trenches About Francis Pegahmagabow, a highly decorated Canadian First Nations soldier renowned for his skill as a scout and sniper during World War 1, particularly for his actions during the Second Battle of Ypres, the Battle of Paschendale and the Battle of the Scarpe.
I love your reactions and god you look so beautiful ❤ I also love Sabaton and history. You should react to Erik Grönwall, some cool songs he have have made cover on: Oh holy night, house of the rising sun, Without you and Carolus Rex (Sabaton song) and more. Have a nice weekend!
Beautiful reaction, as always with Sabaton this is a true story. I strongly recommend for you to react to Sabaton's history channel, for the songs and videos usually cover just one or a few stories, but their history videos cover pretty much the complete story of the songs and characters, and Milunka's story it's long and amazing, as all the story's they write about.
there is a video about her real life on sabaton history. you can check that also. it was even more spectacular than video. She was not very known even in Serbia becouse comunist afther ww2 didnt wont to promote national heroes, only comunist heroes were trandy during those years.
There are more women who served in combat throughout history than we learn about in school. A book I HIGHLY recommend is "Women Heroes of World War 1" by Kathryn J. Atwood. It is about 16 women who served as spies, soldiers, resisters, and medics during WW1.
Hopefully, Sabaton will do a song about Lady Death, a female Russian Sniper in WW2, who according to records holds the 4th highest number of kills in history, numbering at over 300. I would love to see the animated video for that.
She did all of that and more. Please read up on her. Her brother was drafted but he had TB and would surely die so she went in HIS place. When she was wounded, she was found to be a woman but the government didn’t dare to punish her so she was ordered to the nurses corps but she refused. The officers said they’d deliberate on it (an attempt to brush her off) she responded “I’ll wait” and remained standing for over an hour while they decided to just send her back to war. After WWI, AUS/HUN annexed Serbia and by WWII was occupied by Germany. When the N*zi’s invited her to a banquet, the brevity of her response was cutting. It was simply, “No.”
She knew that they were tyrants and she probably knew that the Soviet’s were tyrants too, if I was around back then I’d have married her, she has no regrets or fear of tyrants, she has unmatched bravery
The bravest thing she did in this video (not to take away from her other deeds) was being the Standard Bearer. For those who don't know, that flag isn't just for morale. Back then, in an era with no portable radios or reliable ways of communication, that Standard is how spotters would coordinate heavy weapons fire; essentially saying "shoot in front of that and not a meter less". However, this also made those who carried them the primary target of snipers and machine guns; the Standard Bearer goes down, you risk hitting your own troops with artillery. This also ment that you lead the charge, as anyone in front of the standard could also be hit by friendly fire. So to run toward an entrenched enemy with a large flag that put you squarely at the top of that enemy's shit list takes a ridiculous amount of bravery.
as far as i know that is not historically correct. there where no standard bearers anymore in the first world war. that was mainly a war fought with trenches and bunkers and machine gun fire. what she actually did and get famous for- if i understood it correctly- (hence the nickname lady of the dark) was to sneak/ran out of the own trench in the cover of darkness, crossing over no mans land until she was in range to throw a handgranade into enemy bunkers and trenches and then escape back. that is basically the most dangerous job u can do in trench warfare
I think you should check out an often overseen song of Sabaton "The final solution" I guess you understand what it is about, but it needs to be shown and repeated. Merry C from Sweden
An old Serbian proverb says: the battle is not won by great weapons, but by the heart of the hero.
Our Milunka has proven it many times.
I am very proud that the world finally got to know her story through Sabaton. 😊
Your emotions comes from "respect" ❤❤

Try FIRE WOMAN by The CULT 🔥👍
there was three women in the war that no one beleved to survive..there where som bad ass women in every country.

I think you should check out an often overseen song of Sabaton "The final solution" I guess you understand what it is about, but it needs to be shown and repeated. Merry C from Sweden
