Thank you for this review. I recently discovered these cameras and really like them. The lenses are particularly beautiful in design and manufacture, and can be adapted to digital cameras, which provides some relief from concerns about developing problems with the camera body itself, which is as you noted, complex, and will likely become increasingly difficult to repair.

    An interesting review, thanks.
Back in the 1980s I had a mishap with my main camera and used my Kodak Reflex III backup camera with three lenses shooting Extrachrome 100. I was amazed and the high quality of the Schneider Kreuznach lenses! I was then living near Stuttgart, not far from Kodak. Before (sadly) closing their plant there, they offered to CLA as well as repair any Kodak body for a set price (regardless of necessary repair). I believe the price was under DM 50. I had two Reflex III and one Reflex for 126 film serviced and used them for years afterwards. The Kodak SLRs were okay and the images as good as from my Leicas. But the bodies were very complicated and a bit frustrating to use compared with more modern designs, the light meter was antiquated. I did love the smooth compur shutter and the moving DOF guides.

The Kine Exakta was actually the very first 35mm SLR camera produced.

How do you change the film speed on the camera? I can’t seem to figure it out

there are two variants. One that has a button on the top plate and one near the top of the back of the top plate. On mine, you have to hold the button on the top plate near the external needle and the ASA view and hold it tight and rotate the same dial that changes the Aperture, you might have to adjust the aperture back the other direction to move the setting all the way. Interesting camera.

Standart 35mm nix besonderes.

Just rescued one of these cameras in stunning condition with a 135mm lens from a skip, thrown out by the family of my neighbour (outside his house), who died a month back who bought it new. They have thrown out so much lovely objects of their fathers life. He will be pleased I saved his camera as I got to know him well in his last years. The young seemingly have no appreciation of objects of quality.

Thats a great Thing to do. IT IS a great Lens. Which one do you own? I have 3 different ones. Not all Young persons are Like that, but a Lot do. But These lenses are getting More expensive everyday. At the Moment i think there are a Lot of Investors drawn to this Market. They make the prices Bad for all the normalpeople

Hey I Own 3 Retina's 2 SLR's The Retina Reflex IV Last SLR model, and One of the Reflex Instamatic SLR in which that I could Still use the lenses for the 35mm, But Kodak, and Fuji Stop making 126 format film, and Praying that someone would re-make 126 format again, and the last One is the Retina RF, and they are nice, and the lenses SHARP!!, with the 28mm. 35mm, 50mm, 85mm, and the 135mm, do not have the 200mm that is on my wish list, and I do not mind the SLR of blackout of the viewfinder since the Hasselblad 500 series has that feature, and that still I love these lovely Kodak babies... A piece of camera history that Kodak from Germany as ever made. And I really love the Aperture Control Wheel, It is almost like a Aperture Ring on the lens but with Gear Precision Control. Oh Yes I also have the Kodak Signet 80 camera with the 3 lenses, and finder, and again those Ektar Lenses are something also SHARP!!!...
