At the time of his death, Oliver John Grace was described as “not only a kind-hearted and singularly generous landlord (one of the last acts of his honored life was to grant leases to all his tenants, who applied for them) but a most zealous practical supporter of every undertaking intended to promote religion, charity, and education amongst the people. His funeral cortège included 100 vehicles and 2000 people on foot. Grace is buried in the family mausoleum at Tulsk Abbey.
This Mr. Grace was a well named gentleman indeed. May he & his family & their friends be resting in peace. The places where their bodies are laid to rest but their souls are free to go to heaven.
I guess I would never have even thought about using a mausoleum for a Maintenance shed, but I guess someone thought it was cheaper than building a new shed. It was very disrespectful. I wonder where the bodies went. I'm guessing that that particular family has no one around the area anymore or doesn't come to visit. A lot of younger people never go near a cemetery so if there is family around they probably wouldn't know what was going on. I think it's very sad. Thank you for sharing this with us. It's a beautiful cemetery.
Build a shed, if there is people buried there or even if not, someone paid money to build a beautiful mausoleum for their family. Another mausoleum used for storage
The Taaffes were a very important Irish family who have largely been forgotten in Irish history. They were created Counts of the Holy Roman Empire by the Empress Maria Theresa and Viscounts jn the Irish peerage.
You could only hope the bodies were moved for some reason and are not sharing their final resting place with garden tools. Another great video.. Such beautiful scenery.
They might be the sharpest tools in the shed? I dunno. It doesn't really bother me for some reason. At least tools are being used to keep the place still looking pretty nice, the cemetery that is. I'm not sure how it was in Ireland centuries ago. People pay a lot to be buried in the States for cemetery perpetual care. Who's paying these people that work there?
Hi, GV and Serenity Sue, I hope you had a great Christmas and New Year. I really enjoyed the visit to that cemetery but I was horrified to see all the gardening equipment stored in that mausoleum. How disrespectful. Sadly I suppose the family have all passed now or they would be furious to discover this. Thank you once again for a very interesting visit.
i commend you for the respect and dignity you give those interred in your presentations. i believe they, and their families, would be honored that they are remembered in this way. i also love that you include as much history as possible. thank you for your hard work.
Wow the cemetery was founded in 1448, hard to even imagine! Really beautiful place, shame about the mausoleum being used as a shed, unless the remains were previously removed for some reason. Although that seems doubtful.
Beautiful and interesting walk about. You are right, I would be very angry if someone used my family’s mausoleun as a surf to keep their bits and bobs. Anyhow, beautiful, thank you G V!
I love that they kept the walls up of these old buildings. So beautiful. Great video GV. Funny there is equipment to maintain the graves but there is ivy everywhere on the Mausoleum.
Top number GV,sad that the mauseleum has been relegated to a tool shed bit disrespectful even if there’s people buried there or not, take care, god bless you both,🙏🙏👋👋👍👍🇦🇺
J’aime les belles ballades dans les très vieux cimetières... Tant de gens autrefois ont visité ces lieux, qui aujourd'hui ne sont plus de ce monde. Une pensée pour toutes ces âmes 🙏🙏🙏... Happy new year to you GV 🤗🙏👋🥳
Using a mausoleum as a storage shed? That is bull sh*t! The Abby ruins and graveyard are very interesting. Great walking tour, thank you very much GV and Sue. Have a great week ahead 😊
A beautiful cemetery GV. Love these old places. It looks well maintained too, despite the storage arrangements of the cleaning equipment. I would only hope they had permission from the family to store it there. Otherwise disrespectful in my opinion. Thank you so much God bless you both ~ 🇦🇺❤Teresa xx
I wonder what the locals think about the mausoleum being used as storage? Who'd want their dead buried in that cemetery? How could you be sure your deceased's graves aren't going to have chairs or lawnmowers on them in a few years? I'm sure the grave maintenance workers will say the mausoleum occupants don't mind, but the equipment is literally stacked inches from corpses! What ignominy.
@@GraveVisitationsits making a laughing stock of the deceased. Imagine being remembered not for your deeds and good behaviour but because your mausoleum could hold a good few gardening tools. They would not do this to soldiers mausoleums.
Happy New Year to you GV and Sue and your families hoping you all had a good one. This is one special and lovely place to visit. Great start to the new year I'm so looking forward to watching more of your channel loving it. Thank you will see you in the next one 🌹🌹🌹
Thanks GV for sharing these beautiful memorials with us! It's certainly sad that the cemetery felt the need to evict (at best) or share (at worst) the resting place of the original ones at rest there. 😢 I do a lot of genealogy and I feel close to ALL my distant relatives, especially after I learn something about them. I am appalled that cemetery managers allowed such an insensitive act! I'd think twice about laying my loved ones to rest in there if they still have plots.
Mr. GV: I agree with you, it is disrespectful to use a mausoleum as a caretakers shed. I can say you videos are breathtaking and educational. Cheers from the Southeastern United States.
Wow! We have seen this before. However, it was still a beautiful old abbey with gorgeous old, old headstones some in writing and some in pictures. Thank you for reading them Cathal. ♥️☘️
Lovely old church ruins. Such a same the mausoleum is being put to alternative use but i suppose the occupants coffins may have long since rotted away. Doesnt seem very respectful to me though. The family must have spent a lot of money to build that so they could rest peacefully and be remembered. Some gorgeous carvings around there. Loved the greyhound - ive owned many myself. The carved taff mausoleum was also gorgeously done. The holes were probably designed to give privacy to the sleeping occupants....
This place must have been beautiful; it still is, but it’s sad that’s is disrepair. There is plenty of room to make a real shed instead of using that mausoleum for storage.
Some caretakers are either too cheap or too lazy to get or make a shed to store the maintenance stuff. Every cemetery that I have been to has either had a shed or hired landscapers to take care of some of the maintenance.
Imagine a metal plaque affixed to the lawnmower, reading: "And in addition to praying for the souls of those properly buried here, pray also for the souls who despoiled this mausoleum by turning it into a shed for grounds keeping tools.
Beautiful ruins GV. At the very least, and despite the disrespect, the Grace mausoleum is being looked after. The Taaffe one was amazing. Thank you for this little walkabout. Take care, Deb of Oz, XXX
Stunning history ,I'd be very upset if my familys masaleum was used as a shed .the dead should rest in peace as the family believed when they were laid to rest
I'm watching a video of yours from a year ago - just subscribed. I wonder why the caskets would fall apart showing human remains? I know here in the U.S. that doesn't happen, even from centuries old caskets. Maybe they used a different kind of material for caskets in Europe. I saw this happen on a vid in another European country also.
don't think I'd like my family crypt being used as a storage shed 😕 I know at my fave cemetery here in Oz under the church they have stored broken headstones , urns amongst other things . really interesting watch GV 😊
As disrespectful as it is by their using the building it is more likely to cared for rather than becoming a victim of time and disuse like so many of the others we have seen on your adventures. The other thing is that the mausoleum may have become empty or reclaimed due to lack of payment so they are using it. I guess I wouldn’t personally mind as my resting place is still being somewhat cared for and someone still visits me even if it’s just to get a mower. I also think the fact that this graveyard is being cared for makes a big difference and as many don’t go peering into others resting places by using a unused space to hide away items making it far more presentable for those who are still visiting their family is a good use of what is a empty space. The other way of looking at it is that if they are below they are less likely to be disturbed by vandals and grave robbers as it’s being used. I think there has to be a point that if deserted for a very long time it becomes better to use these spaces to keep them from crumbling and preserving them. Other countries lacking burial space have a timed internment before the plot is either repaid for or passed to the next person who needs to rest their head. I think sometimes that we need to remember that their souls are long gone and too often so has their names, due to weather and time so maybe these spaces could be maintained better with new investment into them to not only honor the original occupants but to add to these beautiful structures legacy, I think if would solve issues of space, upkeep and help history remember those so long forgotten as you are getting their names back to being spoken. Personally seeing the state of some of these buildings and the space some have remaining, this would be a good way to try and keep our history and celebrate those before us whilst also better looking after our dead.
It's always so sad to see a mausoleum turned into a "shed!" How would the owners of a proper shed feel if people started burying the dead amongst the tools? In this case, and others similar, the cemetery grounds' crew have become like "squatters" in the "house of the dead!"
@GraveVisitations yeah I'm thinking that too of course the owners might be cheap. Here in America sometimes you have perpetual care. For graveyards and sometimes not. And sometimes people just run out of money. Ours a lot of them are pretty sad over here unless they're easy to take care of where the stones are totally flat
Thats disguising this family paid alot of money for this and its being used for shed for other peoples tools, its appalling if that was my family i wouldnt be impressed i guess theres no one left to complain about it.
